I have watched almost since video one (and went back and watched the first couple I missed). You guys never fail to entertain, inform, and keep it real. Sunday isn’t Sunday without you guys in the afternoon.
Cheers to embracing choice #3... Enjoying the journey, going with the flow, and finding wonder in the lemonade you can make from the lemons!!🍋We are so excited to see your experience in the Sequoias next week no matter how your adventures roll!
Could be the RV broken down or no campsites, ANYWHERE! There is always an alternative and drop back and punt is my motto!!! Yup, spent many hours of my life broken down on the side of the road, in summer, crossing California to Arizona desert, right smack dab in the middle of absolutely nowhere!!! Add in a raging father, miserable mother, usually towing a boat and several kids who are terrified! All in the days before cell phones and on star! You’ve got it made, enjoy the Rick climbing activities!!!
1) Decision Fatigue 💯 2) Generator - we get it! We were in Capitol Reef NP at Fruita CG. It’s so beautiful and serene and our generator, ugh! 3) we drove that curvy highway ONCE pulling our 17” trailer. Ranger said if we were any long they wouldn’t let us, and even as it was, if we got into an accident it would automatically be our fault! All was well and we didn’t have to go back that way, but it was a loooooong drive!
We took out daughter to Sequoia and kings canyon many of summers. It is so special and just the fragrance in the air is intoxicating . Everyone should visit Sequoia and Yosemite National Parks.
As a native Californian I’ve been to Sequoia several times. It and Kings Canyon remain my wife’s and my favorite national parks in California. One place you may not see when you’re there - it’s in the National forest - is Hume Lake. It was formed by a multiple arch dam used to run logs down a flume to mills in the foothills. Now there are homes around the lake and at one end there is a Christian camp that ministers to children and youth in the summer and to couples in the spring and fall.
I have lots of empathy! I moved from Indiana to California and was excited to run all over the place and see the fantastic national parks. I made so many mistakes! Snow in July? The gas mileage going up those grades and then having to buy gas in the national park. The natural beauty was worth it all and made fantastic memories I will never forget. But it really is different than Indiana.
i knew there was a lot of devastation in Sequoia & the Yosemite areas but didn't realize it was that bad. the campground you guys stayed in was lovely.
I love Kings Canyon. The girth on those trees is amazing! Another beautiful place with tons of redwood trees is up in Humboldt County. The coastal redwoods are taller than the Sequoias, but their width is smaller. Many have a habitat of three ecosystems. We are headed there on Friday...and can't wait! Enjoy Sequoia National Park. I have many great memories of it.
When our truck broke down, we took our travel trailer to an RV park in Flagstaff and then the technician who was doing the work got sick. So, we rented a car and just used it to sight-see around the area until the Technician was well enough to work on the truck. We really enjoyed the area that we might have missed. You will have a wonderful time on your journey.
We love watching your channel. You have given us so much to look forward to when we finally get to full time RV. And your positive attitude is amazing. We are so glad you show even when things go wrong. Keep up the great videos and hopefully one day we can run into you on the road.
We have been winging it for 5 years. Missouri Kansas Colorado Wyoming Montana Canada an Alaska Boondocking all the way. But our kids are grown. Safe travels from Show Me RV Adventures. Clayton&Denise
You guys definitely got more journey. We realize it is not the journey you guys intended. Hopefully it will not take too long for the Jeep repair. Hang in there!
We traveled in our 24' airstream interstate and heard the same thing about the windy roads. So we did the same thing and came in from the north. But leaving sequoia we thought what the heck and took the windy road home. It wasnt as bad as people make it seem. It was totally doable in our rig.
Sorry to hear about your troubles with the Jeep. We hope the repair does not take too long ourvis expensive. When we had a brake failure on our towed during a trip and it had to be left at a repair shop, we got a car rental to get around in for the week we were visiting in our RV. While not optimal, it made life acceptable. We were not going to drive around in our 35' class A. Sometimes making the most out of a situation requires thinking outside the box.
Oh ! Do we know your pain ! ! Last summer we started a trip from Phoenix, to Utah, Idaho, Montana, South Dakoto, Colorado, and New Mexico - only to have it end at Bryce Canyon Nat'l Park when our Jeep went into 'limp mode' (2nd gear [?] only). After 10 repair days (and still not able to fix all the problems) we aborted the trip and returned home. I hope you enjoyed anything possible.
Great Chinese at Ming Dynasty on flip flop to pick up Jeep. AND, there is Harris Ranch at I-5 & Hanford Road. Sequoia and Mineral King are fabulous. Roll on TN Volunteers.
We were there two weeks ago and have been following you for years. Not sure where you will be next, but we are in Yosemite until June 7 and will be looking for you! We love your good, the bad and the ugly videos.
Thanks for sharing your plans and your sadness. It honestly comforts me to know that disappointing things happen to other people in RV life, too. That I'm not the only one, you know? I feel your pain in this video, Marissa, and hope that was the best lemonade you ever made!!🙂 I'm hoping your Jeep troubles are temporary and also looking forward to seeing what memories your family will create during this time. ❤️
I'm sure you are doing this but....... just remember how most other families are not living live the AWESOME way you are. I have no doubt you will still make lasting memories. Enjoy the road and stay safe.
Sorry to hear about the Jeep. We have been living and traveling full-time in a 25 ft Class C for four years without a TOAD. We went to Sequoia/Kings Canyon in May 2021 without reservations and did fine. You were lucky to find a spot in Azalea. We didn’t, but found a last minute reservation at Lodgepole campground for 1 night. We boondocked along a national forest spur road and found a spot in a tiny campground Convict Flat on the road to Kings Canyon. It definitely was challenging because cell phone reception is so spotty. Definitely go for Option 3… you’re making memories. Sequoia is the first national park I remember going to in 1961 when I was 5 and 2021 was my first time back since then. Squeeze those lemons. I love kemonade
Hard to believe, but I lived a short distance from Hanford several years ago. I love Sequoia NP, hope you have a great time there and your jeep gets fixed.
California to Florida. Blew the the top off our radiator on the way to Gulf Shores. AAA sent a great crew, 1 to flat bed the van and the owner, who has a 5th wheel, got his truck and towed to trailer to our campsite at Island Retest in Gulf shore. On a Saturday. So no wheels all weekend 2 days of a rental car and a 1,000.00 to carry on. Everything does work out for the better, in the long run. 1st hour, not so good, but after that, pool, showers, guy next door went and got us stuff from a market, rental car folks were excellent and the shop top notch. It's all part of the journey/adventure. Galveston, a/c stopped. Took 3 seconds for the shop to fix it and then recharged the system. In 110 degree heat a/c is a must! 6k miles later, the month long trip was worth it even with the bs. Do it again? Hell Yes!
Well, by this stage of the game you have learned the backbone of every RVer! We learn from the beginning to “think outside the box”! You roll with the punches and make do with what you have in front of you! Rock on!
Hey, Lemonade, Sun Tea. Safety first, and everything does happen for a reason. Seeing, JJ and Hensley walking freely to close to a cliff is chilling. Till next Sunday pray for safety everyone 😬✌🏻👍🏻🇺🇸‼️🌮🌮🌮🌮
Sorry you guys are having so many change of plans. BUT as a fellow Tennessean, you make me proud. As a fellow full timer it's not always easy, but oh the rewards are so worth it. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us.
I have faith that you guys will make the best of it and I'm thinking the issue on your Jeep is the shifter which is normally all outside of the trans, at least they used to be. Good luck guys. Keep the good stuff coming and give the kids a hug for me.
@@johnnylightning1491 Pretty much the only external part on a modern stick is the clutch and flywheel. The rest is all internal. They use an integral slave cylinder on the input shaft snout as well. Want to do anything with the clutch and it all has to come out.
Too late now, but option 4 could have been rent a small car in the town you dropped the jeep off. Then you could have kept your original camp site with no major plans changed other than going back for the jeep when fixed.
I’ve always been team travel trailer, and at the beginning of this I was thinking how nice a Class C might be for ease of packing up, but you are quickly talking me out of. Lol. Thank you. Going to stick with our trailer.
i prefer a Class C and good planning. You're right though...............no toad. and i'm selling my travel trailer that i've had for 4 years. plus and negatives.
I prefer the Northern approach to Sequoia myself - the other road is very winding and a little steep in a few spots. Sequoia is one of my favorite parks. We previously have rented a little park cabin at Grant in the park. Additionally we have camped in a few other campgrounds in our then tent popup trailer or camping tent. Such fun!
I’m so sorry for your troubles! We are in Visalia. There is a water park right on the 198 freeway the kiddos might enjoy! We will be at the central coast in a few weeks if you guys are going to be in the area still.
You Guys are amazing I love watching your journey. Sending Prayers that the jeep won’t cost a arm and a leg. Can’t wait to see your videos of California my birth state. God Bless and be safe on your journey.
On your way out of Hanford, stop in Armona at a place called Ravens. They have really good Tritip sandwich. Also if your a fan of “not soft” Jersey, it is really good. They have beef and turkey jerkey. Enjoy!
What a bummer about a jeep!! It's OK to spend a hot minute being sad about plans having to change. I'm sure lemonade will quickly be made and new and different adventures will be had!!
Have fun in the redwoods/sequoias! I grew up with the HUGE ones in the Santa Cruz mountains- I would step out of my front or back door into the redwoods- I was a wild child. Best childhood EVER!!! Maybe the reason your jeep is out of commission is because there is something greater just waiting for you to arrive......
So sorry certain aspects of the trip are not working according to your hopes. I like the way of thinking about it and just trying to make the best out of the situation. It is true that sometimes on a trip something is bound to not quite work right. Enjoy your time in Sequioa.
Our first several years of RVing we had a class C (a 27' & a 30') and no toad so used it for all transportation. Some roads we couldn't go on but made it work otherwise. Hope all works out for you.
Hey if you can't get it fixed for a while put it in whatever gear you want while its shut off then start the jeep in gear instead of trying to shift while its running could get you by for a while
Hey guys, met you at the Tampa RV show at the meet and greet with Finding our someday. Just bought some property in Rogersville Tennessee as a Homestead point for our camper. Gonna make a circular area for campers like you guys have. Hopefully we will run into you again, give you an update on the property.
Want us to call that dealer and tell them to hustle a correct repair! Under warranty? Tell them to take parts from a new one in thier lot! Probably many places outskirts of Sequoia to boondock.
Oh no. I do hope the Jeep isn't a major cashectomy, and it is easily fixed. The Sequoias are HUGE, even after the fire, there is lots to see. You are lucky you found a good alternative campground. Things are filling up fast, especially with so many boondocking areas closed due to fire danger. Please be careful with ANY open fires in the Sierras this year. Thank you.
We have the exact same problem with our jeep. First off, when you disconnect it from the rv, do not start the jeep! I find that sitting in the jeep and trying the transfer case shifter and see if it will go into gear. If it does not, then put a foot on the ground and give the jeep just a bit of a shove (a couple of inches is all that is ever needed), and it will drop into gear. Also, I’ve noticed that as we’ve been pulling the jeep and shifting it in and out of gear, it is getting easier.
I admire you all to decide on plan C. Which I think is the best idea. I’m sure it’s gut wrenching tho when plans don’t go the way we would like. I’ve been there more than I care to admit. You both are super people and I love checking in on you every now and again.
A dream vacation 2wks Yellowstone Lodge, Lake Powell WRONG! Replaced water pump on RV (350 Dodge van) on the side of the road south of Flagstaff. Flushed radiator in Kanab UT. We are pulling a 22ft boat. Next morning a Sunday the boat trailer tire has lost all tread. No place in Utah to replace on a Sunday, but made it to Idaho. I have a fear of bears so for 4 days we ate & slept on the boat in the middle of Yellowstone Lake. Now we have lost the starter on van. Husband rebuilt it on picnic table. Made it to the lodge for 5 days van running fine, bought a new starter in Jackson. Yellowstone was a convention & all friends flew in & none had a vehicle so on the last day took several into the park sightseeing. At sunset stopped for them to take photos. Starter died again, so replaced on side of the road😊. Leaving the next day carburetor trouble, another roadside repair. Heading into Lake Powell from the the north, alternator quits but close to a town so got a new one, parking lot repair. Get to Bull Frog to launch the boat to find something took out the complete windshield on the boat. Cleaned up the glass & had a great Powell trip. Leaving Powell dirt road to Tuba City the van is not getting fuel. Summer, hot, mad my husband was to throw a match in the van, but made it to Tuba City. New fuel filters, but just dirt & no shade we pressed on looking for a tree. Funny thing, now the van is running just fine. Never changed the filters. He drove to Flagstaff. South of Flag he was dead tired but just wanted to get home so asked me to drive. Dark & I can handle this we went on. I noticed I started to lose chunks of rubber from left front tire so slowed down no vibration & no more flying rubber, but a car behind me started flashing it’s lights so stopped. They said I had lost a tire, flew right over their car. We all walked around van & boat, still had our tires, I didn’t run over one. They left, we looked again, then noticed the left fender on the boat trailer was missing. Front tire never blew, made it home. When I got home from work the next day we had a new. 18ft Class C motor home. I should add a 3yr old & 2 small dogs survived this trip with us. 42 years later we are on our 4th 5th wheel and wanting to head for Georgia. Love watching your travels. Never quit😊
In Yosemite we took our 29.5 ft class C to Glacier Point. The max was 30 ft. We made it but had to make sure the hairpin turns were clear. I hope thing go smoother for y'all soon!
Merissa and Nate, our family moto is "S#&t Happens". It's all about what you do when it happens not if it happens. I'm guessing that you guys are 30 days out on your videos and have already got your Jeep fixed. My guess a new transmission and clutch assembly. Mine was 6500. Good news is when they rebuild them, they get rid of the original issue and give you a 3-year warranty. Try to relax and enjoy the Journey. You're still living the dream and you have a wonderful family.
Look at it this way, you apparently didn't plan to cross the Sierras from Lone Pine over to Kings Canyon. Even a lot of Californians think you can. You made it to the right side of the mountains to find a Jeep Dealer. Although I'm pretty sure there are mechanics on the east side. We were taking a group of Webelos on a graduation in to Scouts trip up and the van with half the kids and gear died at Coso Jct. You went through there on 395 below Owens Lake. The road up from Potwisha is a killer. For a while RVs weren't allowed, now short ones are.. Tunnel Rock is no fully bypassed. You could see all kinds of scrapes where drivers forgot they were towing something bigger than a car. Enjoy the mountains and the trees. Hanforf is only two hours from Morro Bay on the coast using Route 41. The central coast is amazing beautiful. Fingers crossed for water at the State Parks. We're drying up.
Sad that your plans had to change. Super excited to see you using the Class C as your primary resource. Now I can watch how it works for you before we do this.
Hey Nathan & Marissa, as a 55 Year Native Californian, tight twisty roads is normal..... to get to amazing places in California you are just going to have to get used to it. The main freeways down the center of the state are straight, but not much else, especially like Highway 1 down the coast. I have a 24' Thor Daybreak and I go pretty much everywhere. Don't be scared and have a wonderful time!
Don’t worry there are other years for your bucket list. On the positive side, your family is together, healthy and you guys are troopers, you will make the most of it. Nothing ever goes the way you planned. Just enjoy! 😃

So sorry certain aspects of the trip are not working according to your hopes. I like the way of thinking about it and just trying to make the best out of the situation. It is true that sometimes on a trip something is bound to not quite work right. Enjoy your time in Sequioa.
So true! Thank you.
Our first several years of RVing we had a class C (a 27' & a 30') and no toad so used it for all transportation. Some roads we couldn't go on but made it work otherwise. Hope all works out for you.
Glad you found a great camp site, hope you don't have to wait too long for the jeep to get fixed. Hope your week goes well and take care.❤❤🇬🇧
Thanks 👍
It socks about the jeep;but at least your in the mountains! Having break downs before I know the trials and tribulations of plan changes .stay safe
Praying you get the Jeep back real soon!
Hey if you can't get it fixed for a while put it in whatever gear you want while its shut off then start the jeep in gear instead of trying to shift while its running could get you by for a while
Just an FYI.... Switch it Up RV couple is there at the Sequoia park as well right now.
Your attitudes are perfect! Keep it up!
How about renting a car for a few days so that you can see the places you want while you are in the area.
Overlandx actually wrote a gourmet overlanding cookbook... Ultimate boondocking cookbook
Hey guys, met you at the Tampa RV show at the meet and greet with Finding our someday. Just bought some property in Rogersville Tennessee as a Homestead point for our camper. Gonna make a circular area for campers like you guys have. Hopefully we will run into you again, give you an update on the property.
That sounds awesome, congratulations.
You guys are so calm and flexible. 🇨🇦
Thank you for the tips.
You were in Death Valley. Maybe your Jeep filters are all clogged from the dust and sand from Death Valley. I heard that’s a thing. Good luck!
Marissa, I love you!! Your sense of humor is great!!!
Haha aww thank you!
The KYD has a cook book out for boom docking his wife made a really good cook book check out
I admire you all to decide on plan C. Which I think is the best idea. I’m sure it’s gut wrenching tho when plans don’t go the way we would like. I’ve been there more than I care to admit. You both are super people and I love checking in on you every now and again.
pray you get jeep back soon
Don’t miss visiting Yosemite! It’s epic! And wait till you all see the giant sequoias
You guys are phenomenal, you never give up.... so proud of you. And you have a great trip, ps: we love lemonade
Bet you'll have a great time despite all the jeep issues! You both have a great attitude! >Sue
Sad that your plans had to change.
Super excited to see you using the Class C as your primary resource. Now I can watch how it works for you before we do this.
My wife and I really enjoy watching y'all. We need a cover for our two ebikes, while they are on the carrier. Where did y'all get your cover?
Hi Tony, I don't remember the name but we have a link on our main website if that helps. www.lessjunkmorejourney.com/gear/rv-gear
Can't wait till you guys go international! Australia is waiting!!
We would love that. 😀
OMGOSH, near sequoia there was a big fire not too long ago. Y’all have a great attitude about all this.
wasn't that last year?
@@skpjoecoursegold366 I believe so, it breaks my heart every time I see a forest burned up.
