Protheans didn't create the relays, they merely discovered them... Reapers left bits of their technology across the galaxy so that organics could develop in the direction the reapers wished.
This recap was great. The writers deserve a pat on the back for a job well done. They brought me back up to speed with just the right amount of humor. Thanks, IGN.
Very nice recap and I really really loved how you guys referenced movies and other games/characters like the A team and 007. Informational and enjoyable, keep it up!
These videos are great. They're funny AND informative! Great for jumping into a series, or reminding yourself of wtf is going on in these games after not having played them for a while.
Pyrrha Nikos The "sexy night" thing doesn't happen if you're trying to get the hot secretary. You just sit in your office starting at a photo of whomever you romanced in the first game. Then at the end, is she survives, you can ask her to dance for you and cuddle.
Oh man ME2 was epic! Great mix of combat and story coupled with awesome characters that you grow to love, so by the time you play ME3, you feel like it's your story and your buddies have your back.
oooo, thanks for once IGN. As a huge fan of ME2 on PS3, while not having played ME1 on 360 (which is kind of a bummer since I dont ever intend to get a 360 anytime soon,no hard feelings), I can see why it's a treasured franchise by 360 players:) It totally deserves that praise. Mass Effect franchise is essentially the best place to go for incredibly deep, deep, deep storytelling and character development driven RPG games and I say this even after just playing and finishing ME2 on PS3,lol:)
Only problem is, Harbinger never died in ME2. He's been in dark space with the other reapers and controlling the Collector General remotely. So far you've only killed a total of one reaper.
We all love The Commander, he exemplifies everything we want to be in a person. But it is time for new character seeing as he's probably the new enemy in ME4.
manicrat1 Wait let get this straight you think, you think commander Shepard is going to be BAD GUY. Haaaaa! You make me crack up sir please forgive me but your comedic value is way to high. So let me think for a sec are you serious are you joking because that was hilarious. I mean even when Shepard survives in Me3 he would probably die soonly after i mean no one knows where he is. there would be no food in miles of ruble so he would starve not only dehydrate. It doesn't make sense he didn't even have a helmet and he survived coming threw earths atmosphere and manage to survive. He's was in no state to move around so much when he was talking to the star child but after falling threw the atmosphere he could probably not be able to move frome that shock and i wouldn't be suprised if he was crippled.
Like seriously, ME2's "Suicide Mission" was probably the best and most fitting story questline and ending for that game. Here's a mission that literally makes players as Shepard take responsible for all of their actions(or inactions) throughout a story of forming the best, most badass team all over galaxy to fight an unknown threat, lol:) Having just finished ME2 recently,I thought it was truly awesome how my team could die or survive depending on the strength of my relationship with them:)
Me 1: best story, galaxy building, the one that felt the most RPGish Me 2: funnest gameplay, best characters tied into the story, pacing, decisions really matter for the end Me 3: best gameplay, graphics, the most balanced overall Personally, Mass Effect 2 is my favourite game of all time.
good recap. I'll rewatch it before I start ME3 for sure. Beat both ME1 and ME2, but it's good to brush up on the details. Really wondering how the collector base plays into ME3, WTF is up with The Illusive Man, what my honey Miranda is doing, and how the hell we're going to manage to stop that jaw dropping amount of Reapers.
Even though ive played both mass effects and 4 playthroughs of each game (never getting the same ending) i still found this video really good. Cant wait until ME3!!
The second one has the most value to it, in my opinion. Accompanied with the "Lair of the Shadow Broker" & "Arrival" content with some of the things from ME2's Cerberus network, it probably has the most entertainment for the value of the game. Plus, it has a better ending that satisfies better than ME3.
And the sheer satisfaction of having ALL my team members SURVIVING the said "Suicide Mission" with pure badassery is just unrivaled and frankly speaking no other RPG actually gave me that feeling of involvement in what I'm supposed to do in its storyline.I truly felt like a badass leader throughout that one mission especially so (although that feeling was present throughout the game) ,but its just an unbelievable experience as a long time story driven RPG fan like me:P Cant wait for ME3!!!!!!!!
i don't know which is my favorite. mass effect 1 was good, but mass effect 2 was probably my favorite because of how fucking awesome the suicide mission is. mass effect 3 would be up to par of me2 is the ending wasn't so shitty. I just love the beg of the suicide mission when shep gives the speech and then the crew comes out of the normandy. and then when the squad reunites and opens the doors and shit. always go back to my me2 save every now and then just to play it
They actually hadn't destroyed two reapers by the end of Mass Effect 2, because before Harbinger,s possessed collector was about to die, he went back into his reaper form
Every Reaper to be made was in Harbinger's image. Leviathan's image. After every cycle one Reaper capital ship is created from the species of that time. This, human reaper was being made from ONE species alone and was going to be as strong as all the Reapers, if not, stronger. The wiki states that they chose humanity to harvest because of it's great genetic detail and ability to stop Sovreign from activating the Citadel Relay. The human lafva is an actual Human-Reaper.
@wheresmyhoneybytch ME2 was more about Cerberus than the Collector's. It was practically a set up so those who hadn't read the books by ME3 will know exactly what their drives and goals are. That's why Cerberus are for the most part your enemy in ME3.
So, the Citadel is: 1.) A huge galactic metropolis/center of galactic politics. 2.) A Mass Relay to Dark Space. 3.) The Catalyst which, combined with the Crucible, has the ability to either destroy all synthetic life, control the Reapers, or synthesize everyone and everything in the galaxy down to the sub-atomic level.
ME1 - truly epic story, despite the horrible inventory system and clunky combat ME2 - filler story for the upcoming ME3, awesome and improved combat ME3 - even more awesome combat, the story is equal to multiple stabs to the back, or someone just took a dump on your head for everything that you believed in
I liked the elevators! EVen though many fans think they are just wasting time, it makes the characters seem even more human than they are. It may be the future, but were still killing people with bullets, even if they are advanced
A human life only has one end but it doesn't stop us from playing it, we don't even try to get everything accomplished 100% by living long enough to do everything. Or, to be pedantic, we have three choices: Giving up, accepting dieing because it happens after about 80 years of dedicated gametime and investment, or fighting to stay healthy and thus young and alive for as long as biotechnically possible.
@ronvnkl232 the reapers don't destroy all organic life, just the intelligent life that poses a threat to their harvesting process. For example they don't kill single cell organism, they leave the galaxy knowing in around 50,000 years those single cell organisms have evolved into more complex life. I'm sure we'll understand how the reapers ensure this is ME3
@XmykXoxsXlong Check out the wikia for it: N7 is a vocational code in the Systems Alliance military. The "N" designates special forces and the "7" refers to the highest level of proficiency. It applies to marines who have graduated from an elite training program.
I loved Mass Effect 3, in spite of the ending. Using logic, I deduced (watched a youtube video that explained) that the original ending was broken, and had just as much legitimately as anything I could come up with. So I did.
Probably should have included the story of Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival, because those are what bridge the gap between ME2 and ME3, but still, this was good!
one capital sin of the game and that is when started to go south was this human reaper... I selected the complete destruction of the base and we all saw the biggest explosion ever, plus the reaper destruction inside the base... how in the hell cerberus recovered it when everything blew up to pieces and fire... the whole cerberus mission was the beginning of the fall of me when the game went all jar jar bins on itself
I still enjoy ME1 the most, by far. It has some issues but none of them are problems that cant be easily overlooked, especially when considering its age. I have played it 4 times. ME2 & 3 are a toss up for me. I go back and forth about which I like more but I honestly think I like 3 more overall...I think :). The complete stripping down of the RPG elements really bothers me in 2. In ME1 the choices seem real, in ME2 I feel pushed towards certain choices, I felt less free.
if you think about it, this is the biggest fight that any gamers has ever faced...not just your life or the life of the people of your home land or planet but EVERY life in the universe is in your hands so dont fuck it up
Yes. mass effect one: never played it n/a Mass effect 2: My definition of "Best game ever" 10/10 mass effect 3:still good, but could've done better 8/1o Your list is understandable and pretty good, I'm just a fanboy of the series, that's all.
I never had anyone die in any of my playthroughs of Mass effect 2 I got all my upgrade, made everyone happy so no fucks up in my mission. So see these characters die is really new to me :(
The Reapers believed humanity to be a race of great genetic diversity and a race of great threat. Every reaper created is in Harbinger's image, a synthetic copy of the Leviathans. Harbinger ordered the harvest of this "GREAT" race to be made in it's own form. Human form. So really the Protheans were just made slave servants to the reapers and humans were being made a Reaper in it's own species image. Humans were to be far more superior than Protheans could be.
@TheVirginGamer you know, when you do that you won't be able to import your savefile. All you can do is import another shepard who lived through me2 or creat a new one. I was pretty disapointed aswell...
Protheans didn't create the relays, they merely discovered them... Reapers left bits of their technology across the galaxy so that organics could develop in the direction the reapers wished.
This was stated in the previous video.
This recap was great. The writers deserve a pat on the back for a job well done. They brought me back up to speed with just the right amount of humor. Thanks, IGN.
Absolutely love the mass effect series.
It dead lol
Not all organic life only space faring species!
Was that info even revealed in the first two games? If I remember correctly you only hear and read about that after/during the third game.
OfficialGreekz
No you learn about it from Soverign
Caroline Clift not sure why i wrote that. Already knew that.
Very nice recap and I really really loved how you guys referenced movies and other games/characters like the A team and 007. Informational and enjoyable, keep it up!
Nice summation guys. I definitely sense some Altano snark in there.
This is a great re-cap. Cleared everything up, and what an awesome story.
yep... mass effect 2 ... where decisions matter...
wow this was really well put together, calab, brain, and mike good job
I feel proud finishing this series..
it's long but also very amazing and can't wait for the nxt :D
Past you would have been so disappointed at looking forward to Andromeda
Fem Shep is best Shep!
thadrine Tali can be romanced only by MaleShep, lol.
Poor console players.
Can't wait for ME3! :)
best game i ever played..
These videos are great. They're funny AND informative! Great for jumping into a series, or reminding yourself of wtf is going on in these games after not having played them for a while.
This reminded me about some things and also made me laugh a couple of times, so all I can say is - good job, guys!!!
This was actually a great recap, im pleasently surprised :)
Would love them to remake ME1 with better combat and less micro managing. Would be the best game ever
technically thats mass effect andromeda
Scrub Lord minus the reaper plot
We will get it soon :)
Waaaaaaaaaait a minute... how can you spend one last night with "the sexy secretary" if she's in the hands of the collectors at that time???
Pyrrha Nikos The "sexy night" thing doesn't happen if you're trying to get the hot secretary. You just sit in your office starting at a photo of whomever you romanced in the first game. Then at the end, is she survives, you can ask her to dance for you and cuddle.
Jamaltc15
... what if I didn't romance anyone in the first game, though? Will I look at some random framed medal that Shepard got at some point? XD
Pyrrha Nikos Lol actually if I remember right it's actually even worse then that. I think you just end up staring at your fishtank.
Oh man ME2 was epic! Great mix of combat and story coupled with awesome characters that you grow to love, so by the time you play ME3, you feel like it's your story and your buddies have your back.
oooo, thanks for once IGN. Mass Effect franchise is essentially the best place to go for incredibly deep, deep, deep storytelling and character development driven RPG games and I say this even after just playing and finishing ME2 on PS3,lol:)
I love it, that theyre making 5 minutes sort of, again:P
Only problem is, Harbinger never died in ME2. He's been in dark space with the other reapers and controlling the Collector General remotely. So far you've only killed a total of one reaper.
Anyone enjoy ME3? I freaking love it. Forgive me for saying but maybe it is time for a new character in ME4. James Vega perhaps???
ME3 was amazing, i can see why people don't like it but i thought it was great
Father Karras Nope
HUHHHHHH!!!!!! HOW DEAR YOU!!!
We all love The Commander, he exemplifies everything we want to be in a person. But it is time for new character seeing as he's probably the new enemy in ME4.

need more of these plots in 5 minutes. really would be awesome
Good work to the narrator, I enjoyed remembering my space adventures
Like seriously, ME2's "Suicide Mission" was probably the best and most fitting story questline and ending for that game. Here's a mission that literally makes players as Shepard take responsible for all of their actions(or inactions) throughout a story of forming the best, most badass team all over galaxy to fight an unknown threat, lol:) Having just finished ME2 recently,I thought it was truly awesome how my team could die or survive depending on the strength of my relationship with them:)
they should do more of these, theyre interesting, helpful, and funny :D
Such an incredible series
"and starts building the A-Team, that would make Mr. T jealous"
Haha, awesome
Me 1: best story, galaxy building, the one that felt the most RPGish
Me 2: funnest gameplay, best characters tied into the story, pacing, decisions really matter for the end
Me 3: best gameplay, graphics, the most balanced overall
Personally, Mass Effect 2 is my favourite game of all time.
I am so proud that IGN used the song from the end run (ME2's super fucking bossy ending) in this video. My faith has been restored.
That human Reaper felt a bit like an insult to humanity, honestly. Man, its good to finally say it!
While listening to music with squad dialog/news.
I do miss those times ^^
Loved the A-Team ref.
I love you IGN!!
good recap. I'll rewatch it before I start ME3 for sure. Beat both ME1 and ME2, but it's good to brush up on the details. Thanks IGN cause I bought Mass Effect 3 without playing the other 2 because it looked amazing. So this helped me sorta understand some things.
best recap EVER!
Thane, still kicking ass even through YT even when dead!
And the sheer satisfaction of having ALL my team members SURVIVING the said "Suicide Mission" with pure badassery is just unrivaled and frankly speaking no other RPG actually gave me that feeling of involvement in what I'm supposed to do in its storyline.I truly felt like a badass leader throughout that one mission especially so (although that feeling was present throughout the game) ,but its just an unbelievable experience as a long time story driven RPG fan like me:P Cant wait for ME3!!!!!!!!
very nice work on this vid bravo
I miss these five minute recaps, there should be more
I still have the intro from me2 fresh in my head, that was awesome.
Pretty much...you nailed it.
Man! That soundtrack!
These are the best videos ign has by far. They should just focus on these instead of their paid three minute reviews.
i don't know which is my favorite. mass effect 1 was good, but mass effect 2 was probably my favorite because of how fucking awesome the suicide mission is. mass effect 3 would be up to par of me2 is the ending wasn't so shitty. cool bro😂
I liked the u explained it
even though I have played all the parts
but u made it super interesting
Hey the dead reaper count is 3.Remember the derelict reaper that was "wounded" or "sleeping".
And Shepard's face in 1:20 kicks ass.
If anyone was wondering, the music that starts at 3:24 is Callista from NFS 4 High Stakes :D
already knew.
I played that game as a kid and couldn't pin point where the music came from! I recognized it instantly tho! Thanks!
high stakes had the best techno playlist
They actually hadn't destroyed two reapers by the end of Mass Effect 2, because before Harbinger,s possessed collector was about to die, he went back into his reaper form
props to IGN, I had no idea how they did this with all the different possibilities if you carry over saves
Every Reaper to be made was in Harbinger's image. Leviathan's image. After every cycle one Reaper capital ship is created from the species of that time. This, human reaper was being made from ONE species alone and was going to be as strong as all the Reapers, if not, stronger. nice summary!!
Brand New to Mass Effect world(I somehow missed its existance) And wow did I need this-thank you IGN...now..to not kill everyone...
I'm gonna cry soooo much in mass effect 3...
I loved Mass Effect 1 & 2! The demo for 3 is epic and I can't wait until it's release, so close!
This will be epic for gamers of all platforms ;D
Jedi james bond and the A-team van made my day.
So, the Citadel is:
1.) A huge galactic metropolis/center of galactic politics.
2.) A Mass Relay to Dark Space.
3.) The Catalyst which, combined with the Crucible, has the ability to either destroy all synthetic life, control the Reapers, or synthesize everyone and everything in the galaxy down to the sub-atomic level.

Please make one for ME3. I will now go and search for if you have made one already.

This and Dragon age are my FAVORITE Games ever. love every single one, and yes Dragon age 2 too lol.
brilliant, really well done. going to stick on 3 now and i havent played one or two!
@ronvnkl232 the reapers don't destroy all organic life, just the intelligent life that poses a threat to their harvesting process. "So...GOOD LUCK SHEPARD!"
Love it.
*pulls out a sense of humor *Injects you with it*
Now look at "IAmTheAmazingPJ'"s comment.
Hint: He knows there are no necromorphs in mass effect.
I loved Mass Effect 3, in spite of the ending.
Using logic, I deduced (watched a youtube video that explained) that the original ending was broken, and had just as much legitimately as anything I could come up with. So I did.
the game will kick ass Mass Effect pushed me to play rpg like skyrim
thanks to its action rpg mix style
Mass Effect FTW
Probably should have included the story of Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival, because those are what bridge the gap between ME2 and ME3, but still, this was good!
Now this is cool!

I hope BW brings back the heavy film grain option from ME1. That added to the atmosphere big time for me.
The collectors really fit into the description of the Precursors in the Halo Universe.
thanks for this! I don't really play contemporary games that much. This story actually looks pretty cool, reminds me alot of Babylon 5.
From andromeda to ME1 again... what a series...
Good luck, Shepard!
I still enjoy ME1 the most, by far. It has some issues but none of them are problems that cant be easily overlooked, especially when considering its age. I have played it 4 times.

To bad almost none of those decisions made an impact in the last game...
Its true.
Yeah, what exactly was the difference in games between saving the Collecter base or destroying it in ME3?
Farky Mcdarky A different line of dialog in a submenu woot
that jedi 007 pic was awesome !
goooOOOD luck shepard!
Thanks
if you think about it, this is the biggest fight that any gamers has ever faced...not just your life or the life of the people of your home land or planet but EVERY life in the universe is in your hands so dont fuck it up
i always romance liara and i always leave kaidan on virmire
1:12 so it is mysterious for a quarian to not leave there suit :P
Yes.
mass effect one: never played it n/a
Mass effect 2: My definition of "Best game ever" 10/10
mass effect 3:still good, but could've done better 8/1o
Your list is understandable and pretty good, I'm just a fanboy of the series, that's all.
Please let the giant lobsters come back in force in ME3! Haha. As an avid ME fan this video was great. Loved the A Team joke.
Mass Effect 1 was my favorite. Just because it was so fresh.
I never had anyone die in any of my playthroughs of Mass effect 2 I got all my upgrade, made everyone happy so no fucks up in my mission. So see these characters die is really new to me :(

@TheVirginGamer you know, when you do that you won't be able to import your savefile.
All you can do is import another shepard who lived through me2 or creat a new one.
I was pretty disapointed aswell...
Yes look it up
Mass effect 2 is my favorite game of all time
I. Fucking. Love. This. Trilogy!
