Love this solution, thanks! I’m glad Pos Grid didn’t put in an onboard battery. Having an onboard battery is one more thing to go wrong and it wouldn’t be user replaceable whereas this set up is as easy as buying a new battery...plus you can charge your tablet and/or wireless guitar transmitters at the same time you’re using the amp *and* use it for other uses when in a pinch. Fits in the Spark bag with room to spare, too. Brilliant...

You may want to consider getting the carry bag Positive Grid makes for the Spark Amp. It fits the amp well, but there’s enough room for the battery where you’ve attached it, plus, it’s got a zippered pouch the battery, cable, etc., will fit into as well. I got the bag when I signed up for the preorder, and this solution of yours helps justify it. Great video man, thanks! Also: subbed!

Just bought this specific power bank (now in stock on Amazon UK) and stoked to finally get my Spark 40 on battery.
They just brought out the Spark Mini available for pre-order (at the time of me typing this) but the claims they're making on volume just sound far too outlandish to be believable even to gullible ol' me....
Thanks for this video. You are a superstar!

    • @olgreybear7997

It's official. Got my battery bank delivered today (on 1 day delivery thanks to being a Prime member) and it powers the Spark 40, much to my amazement. I saw it on this video and tried it, low and behold it worked!! Thanks, dude, you officially rock!!!
Quick question since I'm not an electronics guy and more of a semi-technophobe. If the amp is turned off at the switch (Toggle on the Spark 40) do I need to disconnect the power cable from the amp and battery bank? When I had the amp plugged in at the wall I used to leave it plugged in and just flick the Toggle on the Spark 40. Is that safe to do on the powerbank or should I remove the wire each time I've finished playing with (or through) it?

Just ordered one for my SPARK, it is exactly what I need. Me and a couple of friends are doing flash jams in city parks around Vegas. This is perfect. Let me know if you stumble across a more powerful battery especially if it allows for more than 3 amps of supplied power. God job.

Hey I`m sorry to bother you again, but I know nothing about powering things that normally plug into the wall, using a battery pack. I have a Roland Cube Street EX that already runs on AA`s. But I want to use a Digitech looper pedal that says its (9vac 1300 ma) and a TC Helicon Voice live for harmony that says its (12v 400ma). Not sure what size battery pack to get to run them both, or even if I can run them both seeing that one says 9vac, and the other 12v. If you could give me some advise I would much appreciate it! If I had to buy two different packs that would be fine. Just not sure what ones to buy? Thank you!

Thanks for a "Great" idea and for your time and effort to make this video. This is an Excellent idea my friend; I have the Yamaha THR30II, that has a battery (it Works Super) and have always thought that I wished it (Spark) was portable also. Your system may, also, work with my Katana 50MKII. These portable amps are amazing good for the money. Will they replace my high-end Amps and expansive Pedal Boards, of course not, but they aren't meant to do that to start with. I was wondering what (approximate) battery life you get with this setup. Again, thanks for your well thought out idea and time...

  • @andrewking7919
    @andrewking7919 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I have been trying to get one of these battery packs for nearly a year now, No luck, so I went for a cheapo powerbank setup instead. its basically just a plastic case with voltage selector circuit in one end, It cost abot $10 on Ebay. You might have to hunt around a bit to find one that will go up to 19 volts But they ARE out there! Then find a 6 pack of 18650 batteriesfor it. pack them in and away you go! It has less battery life than the pack on here but ist still good for about 6 hours the 2.5 millimetre output socket is the same as the spark input, interestingly so is the charging input to the bank which means you do not need a seperate charger, The Spark PSU does it just fine, I did this about 12 monts ago, no problems, so far anyway....
Anyhoo If you cannot get hold of one of the power banks mentioned here or you have a limited budget (it cost me about $40) its an alternative for you, happy busking!

So, can I leave the battery connected to the amp and continue to just use the toggle on the amp to control the power draw or do I have to disconnect the cord each time? If I have to disconnect, do I need to pull out the wire on the battery AND the amp? Can I leave the wire connected on the amp for ease next time I come to use the amp?

There is a link, it’s available at Amazon USA, the show it in stock, is your not in America, look for a 19v battery

@@windsweptguitars Thanks for the reply. I'm looking at both the US Amazon and the Canada (where I am) Amazon and it shows unavailable for me, unfortunately. Positive grid sent me a power supply with a "ground" that took care of the hum issue. Do you have problems with that at all with the battery? Thanks again.

The NB7101 is readily available on Amazon, is the same as this one minus the USB-C port, and is only available in white (wish it were black!). For me, this is strictly dedicated to running the Spark and tablet running the app which is USB-A, so I got the NB7101 anyway which incidentally is $20 cheaper than the USB-C version. You can’t use the DC2 and USB-C ports at the same time anyway and that hideous white is nicely tucked out of sight, thanks to this brilliant video.

Brilliant! I don't understand why PG made such a huge number of mistakes, like built in battery, when they designed this amp...

I figure it was a price point, they wanted it below $300. Now that it’s established, Gen II will have a few more features. This battery is amazing. I’m getting 12+ hours on a full charge. Best $50 I’ve spent on guitar gear

@@windsweptguitars they could have made this the product of the years for almost any musician, for many years to come with some changes... If they would like a cheaper version, well then do as Yamaha with the THR10/THR30II...
I would love to buy this, even with double the cost, which is about what the THR30II costs...
Here"s my wishlist of changes for the Spark 2.0...
The tiny Aux volume knob should be the same as all other knobs
The Spark should have a foot switch option
The Spark should have a send/return option on the back
The Spark should have a much better quality carrying strap
When used as an interface, the Spark should send 4 channels, both wet/dry, left and right, for later re-amping inside a DAW. Even the first gen. The THR10 had this 7-8 years ago.
The Spark should have the full BIAS FX 2 built in. This would mean axcces to the WHOLE tone cloud and ALL user presets. Today ths Spark can only use the few user patches with the exact same signal chain as the Spark.
With the full BIAS FX 2 built in, the amp would have a bigger focus on vass players and acoustic players, and area that is really minimal/limited today with only a tiny optuons of amps and pedals.
The Spark should have a line out for connecting to a PA, externat speakers etc.
The Spark should have a totally flat channel for use with any mic:ed sound source. This way the Spark could ve ysed by (and sold to) just about any instrument, for an singer/musician, in any genres, and in any situation. That would open up a huge potential market with just a small change in the product
With a 48 v XLR input built in as well, guitarist/bass players, and really all other musicians, could use the Spark as their main interface for recording a whole demo. Now you still need a another interface to record for example vocals and thus reduce the importance of the Spark as an interface. And with most other interfaces and for example the BIAS FX 2 you could record a whole demo including vocals.
The amp should have a build in battery. I hear about more and more people that are powering the amp thru a separate USB- charged battery like you, or the guy on internet showing how he uses a battery from a carpenters batterydriven hand drill.
The Spark should, if claiming to be partly a learning device, have mp3-tone matching like on the Line6 Amplifi, where a user loads a song and the amp/app selects the best combination of amp/pedals to recreat that guitar/bass tone.

      @@msgn8i11s2 Don't forget a built-in looper.
And you covered this by suggesting using BIAS FX 2, but being able to use multiple drives, multiple modulations, and in varying signal chain orders, to me, is the most needed improvement. The other things you and others have mentioned are important, but the signal chain options are so limiting I went ahead and invested in some cheaper clone drive pedals to be able to have more freedom. I'm mainly using the Spark for amp modeling, and a decent set of mod/delay/reverb effects without having to spend a fortune on pedals.

    • @msgn8i11s2
      @msgn8i11s2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@jscoppe agree, a 5-10 min (or more) looper shall of course be on the list.
Yes, the fixed signal chain means you can only download and use those user presets on the tone cloude with the exact same signal chain.
In the beginning, I wanted a Spark, now I dont.... planing right now on gettimg a used Vox Pathfinder 15r instead..
