    Also. If you're sending footage to a small company. Make sure to put a watermark on your samples, just to ensure no miscommunication happens and that you intend to SELL your footage, not donate it. I've dealt with many clients that have no understanding of what footage worth and picture worth is, especially on a professional scale.

    I would add just one thing. Copyright laws are not really a thing in some countries, so to avoid to have the sent material been used without paying, slap a huge watermark over the pictures and video, so they don't get tempted .

      Yeah I wanted to say this as well. I have a dog walking service and I'm a photographer, I made some pictures of a dog, put it on insta without a watermark and next thing I know they've made a warning sign behind their window. Beware of the dog with my picture. So rude to do this without asking. But now I slap a few watermarks on my pictures and it didn't happen ever since.

    Went on vacation and contacted a dozen places I was going on Airbnb who had bad photos and asked for a discount to stay there in exchange for redoing their listing photos plus drone video. I not only got 2 offers but one large luxury condo complex offered free accommodations, transportation and paid me. I've since got numerous jobs from having such a big client for my very first job. Your video is spot on! I used a DJI Air 2s and this client was NOT in the USA ... Mr. FAA.

    I really appreciate the good energy this video has and especially the effort that you put into helping other people to make money in the industry, which is really rare.
    However I feel like this video is a bit to easy going on how you’re able to do things - here’s why:
    (I’m gonna base everything on the EU laws based from Germany, it might differ for other places)
    Any person that is flying a drone needs a liability insurance (an insurance that covers any damages that occur because you flew your drone, i.e. it crashes onto a car, house etc.)
    If you fly with commercial intent (which taking pictures to sell later on clearly is) you need a commercial liability insurance wich might be double the price.
    To fly close to/in residential and industrial areas you need the bigger pilot certificate of the two, which is more than just an online test. If you only have the small certificate you must stay at least 150m (measured to the side) from these areas.
    Also, if you happen to get the big license you still need to stay away 50m from residents not involved in your action (also measured to the side).
    Additionally taking picture of private property might not be allowed without consent and you might get in trouble while you’re taking the photos - especially if people think you’re taking pictures of them (which happens to me quite a lot)
    Considering the aerial Photos and selling prints you really need to watch out what you’re shooting since a lot of landmarks & sights are subject to copyright by the architect and you making money off of it is illegal and might result in them filing a claim which whillbhurt your finances a lot.
    Considering the stuff I said above - all of the things you said in the video would be illegal to do (in Germany) or at least bound to certain circumstances like 0 people anywhere close or property owners/companies giving you permission.

    You can also offer to take pictures for real estate listings. I’m a realtor and getting this drone for this reason. It’s like $150-300 for a single session of photos. Realtors pass your info around their circles if you are good and you can get lots of clients quickly from word of mouth.

  • @SW-Video
    @SW-Video 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Good advice! I have one question about showing potential clients your pictures of their property. How do you send it to them? Is it just a low res thumbnail in 300x300 or something similar? Obviously we don't want them using them for free on a website. Do you have a watermark or something on each photo you send them?

    • @DMProductions

    Where I live (Australia) the rules for drones (administered by CASA) are the same for a sub 250g drone as for a drone of more than 250g. Also once you are flying for commercial gain you MUST have the drone registered and pass an on-line test, no matter what weight it is. So you may as well get a drone that gives better image quality and has sensors to keep your productive asset safer.

    • @silverpro8356
      @silverpro8356 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeh Casa are just in it for money you need to pay $4000 worth of licences before you can even make a dollar. Just rediculous if you ask me. It’s why drone sales have plummeted in Australia and why you rarely see them in the sky anymore.

      1. You need to register your drone (even sub 250g)
      2. You have to have an ARN
      3. You have to pass the pilot accreditation test
      4. Obey all rules for drones

    • @PilotMcbride
      @PilotMcbride ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sub 250gm and flying over your own property or private property (with owner’s permission) not for profit you do not have to register your drone or obtain and operator’s license or carry insurance. You can also fly it in public areas subject to obeying all safety aspects outlined on their website. Even crossing a public road is illegal.
      Stepping outside any of the conditions mentioned requires rego and license, not sure about insurance, but always a good idea.
      This is almost like flying a plane. If you fly over your own property you do not require a license as long as you stay under 500ft (for planes).

One question, though … as I’m just about to get started on drone flying, I already noticed that at least over here in germany, there are pretty strict laws regarding no-fly-areas - basically you are only allowed to fly in the woods 😅 … so do you have any experience (and can share it) with getting those kind of “permits” to fly over buildings, cities, people …?

    Some great ideas. I would be a little concerned that the CAA's interpretation of when commercial insurance is required might not be the same as yours. As the rules are new, they may eventually need to be tested in court. I was under the impression that if you took the photo/video with the 'intention' of selling them, then commercial insurance would be required. The other issue is of course is having non-commercial insurance and then trying to make a claim on it. We all know how much insurance companies like paying out, if they check online and see you are obviously selling your work, any claim will be refused. Bit of a minefield. Also worth bearing in mind any profits from sales will probably be taxable, especially for those already employed and doing this as a side business, if their taxable allowance is already accounted for by their day job. Hard to argue with HMRC if you are putting yourself out there clearly seeking/getting money from your drone.

    • @stevieskin
      @stevieskin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are correct... if you are flying for reward for a third party, or just with the intent to sell content or further your business from the flight you need commercial insurance that meets (EC) No 785/2004 requirements. . Drone size and weight has no bearing on this, it applies to sub 250g also.

    • @thewho9112
      @thewho9112 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, very bad advice on this video, ignorance of the law is no excuse when the worst things happen and end up in court. If you are out with the intention of making money from a flight, it's commercial whether you have been commissioned or not. You are acting as a freelance drone operator working for yourself. Easily come unstuck when the police get called as you keep buzzing around all the hotels and expensive houses without checking permission. Coverdrone charge less than £150 a year for £1m cover.
