Another great interview. Thanks Yogi and PJ. Coordinating driving 90 miles one way sometimes while still doing the IT day job is hectic and I can relate. I'm in the same boat of tear apart and pray. My hats off to you, sir. #Lockboss
WOW what a story. That is what I call commitment. You have to love what you are doing. Yogi you have my respect. No way can you charge enough for travel time. Trips like that I would take with me what I needed to do the job and drive something that gets about 35 - 40 mpg. You are definitely a #Lockboss
My last three AKL vehicles were an hour drive into the Colorado mountains. No/low internet and cell service. Customer couldn’t get anyone closer to service their vehicles. Two of the vehicle were inaccessible to tow trucks. I charge a fair rate and the customers were happy.
I really enjoyed this video as someone that was thinking about starting up a small business in my town as the nearest Locksmith is 150 miles away. I have a lot to think about and this video was perfect timing to stop me from jumping in to something I definitely was not ready yet to do. PJ great video and I can’t wait until the live interview. #lockboss
I feel him on the hardware side, "Tear it apart and hope you can get it put back together". I'm dealing with that now. I've worked in the mechanical testing lab for 8 years, so the skills I've learned there help a lot. I just got bit in the ass last week because I did not check for master pins. Never again, I'll use that tool every time now.
Agree that being able to build on existing knowledge is necessary to tackle hardware and programming you’ve never done before. I think that’s where the mechanical inclination really comes into play. #lockboss
I do have an office in Jamestown, small world. I have an office in Jamestown to limit travel if I need parts or equipment but it’s not a staffed location.
I like hearing stories like this; it's so different from what I'm used to. There are umpteen locksmiths within just a few miles of me, so I can't fathom not having one for 120 miles. Great story Yogi and thanks for sharing. You're a true #Lockboss !!
Thanks for sharing your story long distance to go for those jobs we have the same problem not as often but it does take time and and you pray that you guys take all the right stuff nothing's worse than have to go and back for a darn little tool you forgot that put in your toolbox or didn't replace on your truck thanks again for your sharing your story #lockfather
I like his story. As a small town locksmith myself I can relate to him. My dad was the original locksmith who started from taking courses from an add in the back of our Field & Stream magazine for extra money. I started watching and learning from him when I was 12 and been doing it ever since.
Great hearing your story, Yogi. Sounds like you have mostly commercial accounts which in your situation is the best way. You can't drive even 100 miles to rekey a residential front door. #Lockboss
Thank you for letting us know that its a big investment from scratch I am starting from scratch myself and wanted to have an idea of what I am getting into #lockboss
No way he's able to charge enough for his services. Lotsa jobs are like that sometimes. Love of the craft and desire to make the world better keep you going. #lockboss
Wow, great interview PJ and Greg, inspiring for any #lockboss and amazing how Greg organizes for such long distance travel, his origin story where his community begged him to do it, and the questions he asked PJ. Can’t wait to hear what this announcement is!
Nice story. From a Safecrackers perspective time always has to =$ Even with travel don't give yourself away! You pay for the knowledge and skills I've accumulated on MY time.
🌵🇨🇦 Hey Yogi. Great Story. I'm in a small town about 40 km from a large city. I have thought about going from hobiest to Locksmith, but where I am, I just can't do it legally. I would need to take a two year course including an apprenticeship, and when I tried 20 years ago, I could not find a locksmith that would take on an apprentice. #LockBoss 🇨🇦🌵
We're a locksmith operation in Northeast Iowa, and it's not uncommon for us to 200 mile a day on our service truck. Small town and wouldn't have it any other way! #Lockboss
I’m sure you do this but I hope you utilize peoples ability to take a picture or video of there lock problem especially when they are that far away. I have done that for customers who are even local and it saves time and helps and answer many of my questions.
I give you credit Greg, I wouldn't want to get thrown into the game like that and have to figure stuff out while trying to make money. If I were you, I would go take a business class at night. Everyone in business needs a business class.. BTW you always have an employee with you.. your truck/van and it should be MAKING you money like an employee with trip charges, not breaking even. I'm not here to bash anyone, just here to try and help. FIRE AWAY :) #LockBoss
Really enjoyed hearing Yogi's story. IC locks and really good planning before getting in the truck can make a huge difference in profitability when dealing with really remote locations. #Lockboss
Yogi: I wish I were closer (northern PA) I'm a new locksmith and I'm looking for a mentor and who better to teach the ways of the force than Master Yogi. I would enjoy working with a true #lockboss
No regrets but when you invest every penny you ever made back into the business and someone breaks into your van and steals years worth of hard work it makes a guy question a few things.
Isn't my Uncle Greg the cutest locksmith ever!!! That man is a godsend people!!!! ❤❤❤❤
Thank you.....really enjoyed listening in. Very encouraging for me. #Lockboss

Very good, being a small time locksmith myself and no yet able to do full time he has very good information. #lockoss
Since I have friends in Jamestown I would guess that is where Greg is based out of. Best wishes for continued success as an awesome #lockboss
I do have an office in Jamestown, small world. I have an office in Jamestown to limit travel if I need parts or equipment but it’s not a staffed location.
This shows how mileage can differ in areas! Sometimes 5 miles in my city can take 45-60 minutes! #lockboss
Very true-PJ

Greg I think you are doing a really awesome Job #lockboss

He really nailed it with travel not being a money maker. #Lockboss
Great hearing your story, Yogi. Sounds like you have mostly commercial accounts which in your situation is the best way. You can't drive even 100 miles to rekey a residential front door. #Lockboss
#lockboss POV from dif people is great !!

My septic guy said his girls aren't interested in taking over his business either.
Sounds like a crappy situation for the family business.

I'm in pierre sd I know the feeling I do 4 tribal areas as well. Long way to know where.

I only do business in town w/ a little driving outside limits. Gas🤬
Yogi rocks! #lockboss
Funny. Even some doctors try to low ball me. #lockboss
I wonder what is his Trip/service charge? #lockboss
kind of unexpected that a small town with no local locksmith could be profitable (Hopefully)#LockBoss
Boy, sounds like a tough job being a "small town" locksmith. #lockboss
I’m not a fan of living in a small town as a locksmith. I’m planning on moving. #lockboss
Yogi: I wish I were closer (northern PA) I'm a new locksmith and I'm looking for a mentor and who better to teach the ways of the force than Master Yogi. I would enjoy working with a true #lockboss
I wonder if Greg regrets his decision? Sounds like he stressed out
No regrets but when you invest every penny you ever made back into the business and someone breaks into your van and steals years worth of hard work it makes a guy question a few things.
@@yogi-greggibson5005 yea I feel that. Locksmith equipment is sooooo expensive in general
