17:00 How do you divide the model into areas of design and non-design?

      Hi,

Thanks...I eventually figured out how to do this in-software ;)
My issue now is understanding how minimizing the compliance works, as changing the material properties doesn't seem to make a difference in the final optimized shape that is achieved...

I found this very helpful when trying to understand the method behind it:

Hi, why did you constrain only 2 and 3 on side while 1,2 and 3 are constrained on the other side?

It is because of the fixed bearing - floating bearing thing. Look it up here: www.quora.com/What-is-the-reasoning-behind-floating-and-fixed-end-bearings

Vielen vielen Dank. Wo kann ich mehr über Topologieoptimierung lernen ?

    Hi,
I have some questions I was hoping someone could answer.
I am trying to model a sandwhich structure with carbon fibre skins and aluminium honeycomb core and then perform a 3 point bending test in the software if possible.
    1. Could someone please explain what the reason is for selecting PCOMPP, PSOLID etc, what are the reasons for choosing one of them over another?
    2. Which compersite property: PCOMPP, PSOLID, PSHELL, etc, do I need to select for the task I want to achieve (3-point bending simulation)?
    3. Another question relates to my understanding of the MAT 8 card....would I be correct in saying that as MAT8 only asks for the in-plane properties, it would not be possible to get proper results for a 3-point bending test in the software? (Or does the software still work this out?)
    4. Would I need to use the MAT9 card for what I am trying to do and in that case what composite property do I select, PCOMPP, PSOLID, PSHELL, etc?
    4. If I select for example PCOMPP for the honeycomb properties, do I have to select PCOMPP for the carbon fibre skin properties?
    Regards

    Hi, Manuel!
I've tried to do your tutorial click by click but an error is occurring when I press the OptiStruct button, and it says the following in the HyperWorks Solver View:
A fatal error has been detected during input processing:
    *** ERROR # 78 ***
PLSOLID data can only reference MATHE data.
This error is for MID # 1,
    referenced by PLSOLID # 1.

==== End of solver screen output ====
    ==== Job completed ====
    How can I solve it?
    Thank you in advance!

I've managed to solve it! But thank you anyway, keep on the good work! Waiting on thermal optimization content!! ;)
