Almost any meet with effort put into it has better production value than the IPF

@@angeljimenez2346 Más que avaros, son idiotas. No tiene sentido tener una producción más pobre cuando quieres que el deporte sea Olímpico, no tiene sentido.

@@_750ZO . . It couldn't be worse, that's for sure! I remember when Ernie Franz began his powerlifting federation, in response to the way the IPF was operating back then. Good lifts by the score were being given red lights, and the reason why? In the hope that the International Olympic Committee would admit Powerlifting as an Olympic Sport. If we'd had any idea how hard the International Weightlifting Federation was campaigning to keep us out, all their gutter tactics etc, we should have told the IOC to shove it up their ass! Instead, our response was to make the refereeing ridiculously strict to try and make it seem we were running a tight ship. Ernie Franz had had enough of that pettiness and kicked off, firstly an American, then World Masters Powerlifting Federation. When that proved popular, and the rest of the lifters could see how fair and unbiased the APF was, they deserted the USPF en masse to join it.
Back then, if you were a Powerlifter and just wanted to compete without the bullshit, the IPF was definitely not the way to go. Nowadays I've seen a few big event IPF meets and they seem to have gotten over themselves, with comps being run quite well.
It seems our uppity cousins, the Olympic Weightlifting Federation, are having huge problems with the IOC coming in over the top and pretty much taking over the running of the IWF, in response to allegations of widespread corruption at the international level. They also seem to have changed all the weight divisions, halving the number at international level . . forcing lifters to drastically cut weight in many cases so as not to be completely overshadowed by their now having to compete with guys many kilos heavier than themselves. It's over-reaching administration like that which will be the death of Weightlifting as we know it. But given how they shit-bagged Powerlifting back in the '80s, I'm finding it hard to feel any compassion for them. Still, it wasn't today's lifters who were responsible for what happened 40 years ago. I hope someone like Ernie Franz comes along to offer the lifters themselves an alternative to the high handed IOC-controlled way of doing things. Maybe Silent Worker??
