@StevenStamkos91 There are 2 slots available as of commenting, but I think Tim Monigatti should step down cause he'll just get smoked by Austin Perkins. Assuming he does, Panagiotis, Jonathan Garcia and Anatolii Novopismennyi should go to Sheffield since they registered the same total as first place.
This is without question the greatest 66 kilogram battle of all time; Pana's emotional loss against Jonathan; Kyota's emotional loss for the gold (for some reason not shown in this video); and the dark horse Kasemsand Senumong who never hit the podium before taking the gold. The top 3 totaled 707.5 kilograms, which I don't recall happening before in any type of IPF competition. This is without a doubt the greatest battle we've had in this class and it'll probably take decades until it gets topped. I predict that every other class soon competing will not top the 66 kg battle for this years championships. Superb effort by all of the athletes here today!
This battle was legendary! Thank you for this comment. The video features the top three finalists but it is honorable to mention all the other athletes that fought for the podium including Kyota 🙌

The guy from Thailand positioned himself really well going into deadlifts. Garcia and Pana both had to pull at their limits and he seemed to have some kilos in the tank.
Where was the pause on Jonathan's third bench attempt? The bar was sinking all the way to the "press" command. Am I wrong? Am I missing something? Can someone give their opinion on this as well, please.
i was wondering that myself. I'm not familiar with the rules but was wondering why his form was different, and why he was using momentum while the others were seemingly making it harder on themselves by stopping and not sinking it into their chest.
With that judging, perhaps, but the bar clearly wasn’t motionless before the press command so he got lucky anyway. He really could’ve had more on squat though if the center judge wasn’t after him.
Why didnt pana do 287.5 for his second deadlift instead of 285? They already knew jonathan was gonna do 260, so they knew 285 wasnt enough if jonathan would get his second. Now the 285 cost a whole lot of energy to still be behind jonathan
If he missed 287.5 on the second attempt, he could not have gone back down to 285 for the third one then no podium for him, it was a safer choice to do this way
Nah, if he wanted to play it safe he would've done a lower second. With his 285 second attempt he went from second to second. Didn't change a thing in the standings. Why not do 287.5 and overtake jonathan at least. One extra place up is definitly worth the risk of just 2.5 kg extra. I think france just made a mistake in the calculations. He also didnt care about the podium, just the win
Kasemsand doing double overhand deadlift and wonders why his grip gave out on the second lift.. But holy crap is his grip strong to lift doubleoverhand like that. Insane.
never been a huge fan of pana but you gotta give some credits for putting up some fucking battles. Where other athletes would avoid a third try if their 2nd has a major grind, pana goes in and add 2.5 or 5kg to the bar eventho he grinded the past try for like 8 seconds, this dude aint scared of fighting for his bar, aint scared either of using a lot of energy for small total changes
Can some one explain the bodyweight rule? new to powerlifting don’t understand how they all had the same total and ranked differently based on bodyweight.
If 2 or more lifters have equal totals (in this case 707.5kg), the split is decided by lightest to heaviest lifter. The lightest lifter is given the win. If the lifters weight the exact same, then its decided by lot number which is randomly decided at weigh ins. (at that point its luck). You should look up how close in weight these 3 lifters were its INSANE.
My German shepherd weighs 54+ kg almost as much as them wow. Impressive 250 kg is the most I’ve ever done on squats, 275 on dead, 168 on bench non pause. But I’m 22 kg heavier. I suckkkk!!!! 😭 😆
Can someone explain how the rankings were determined if all 3 had the same total? Is it based on how many clean lifts they had out of 9 then? (New to powerlifting)
For the love of God stop squatting like that. That was awful. And for the American they said his depth wasn't good enough. He was better than both of them!
