    "Playing drums put me into my body and made it feel ok to be there". That is one powerful statement. May we all find the thing that does this for ourselves.

    The rhythm of her voice and story is like a drum. ..I don't play any instrument but this was so satisfying and interesting to listen to.

    Obviously, all women are formed from elements in alien comets generated in stars, meaning they are literal rock stars. Keep asking questions

    Love Patty! Her work on Live Through This was so good. She got a raw deal in Hole, but it’s good to see her persevere and overcome her struggles. Also, she looks really healthy here.

    I relate so, so much to her.
    "The first time I sat behind a drum kit was the first time I fell in love." That's so me, being able to play drums is the best thing I could ever start. Drums are the best instrument, they just... they're honest. Like no other instrument (I play a bit of quite a few), it's the instrument that you can't really shush all the way down. We, drummers, are heard and will be, and are literally the hearts of the bands.
    much love for all the drummers out there

    “And I wanted to be a boy”
    Same.
    I used to think I was a boy as a young child until my boy friends took their shirts off on a hot summer day and I followed and got laughed at by these awful ladies that were watching. Afterwards I went home and told my mom and grandma and they both gave me the facts. But I swear up until that day, I had no idea I was a girl. All my friends were boys and we clicked so well. Gender was not a thing on my mind up until that day.

    I can relate to so much of this! I grew up as a tomboy. I liked boy things and played with boys. As I got to school any compliments I would get would be along the lines of "not bad for a girl." Then i would get told girls are nice and quiet and like to play with dolls. I liked to take things apart to see how they were made, I liked to play legos with my brother, climb trees with our mutual friends, and handled disputes with fist fights. I was continuously told that boys are good at math, science, and history, while girls should be good at reading and grammar. I hated reading out loud, the reading that I did enjoy was encyclopedias, and I didn't care too much for grammar. Had my 2nd grade teacher never pointed it out, I wouldn't have realized my talents for math and science. I liked boy things, I looked like a boy,thanks to us being poor I often had to wear my brother's hand me downs. In my teens people would suggest that maybe I'm not straight since I'm so not girly. Now that I'm almost thirty, I'm comfortable and strong in my self identify. It's pretty fucked up that as a woman growing up we hear labels be put on us. You have to do these few things, they're for girls. You shouldn't really do the other stuff, it's for boys,... if you do there's something off about that and boys won't like that. I wish early on people would just say "you're good at this" and leave off the "for a girl" and I wish people would stop pidgeon-holeing their children. Why hinder someone's talents based on outdated gender norms?

    Wow this generation is so spoiled and ignorant. They think the way things are is how it always was. And that if in her generation a few female drummers already existed in LA and NY that somehow that negates her story. There were thousands of male drummers from every podunk town the map. She didn't think she had a real chance of adding her name to the short list of women because clearly it was rare for them to make it.

    • @davehurds
      @davehurds 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    There's just one type of person that are despised, no matter which society they live... No it's not women... It's short men. Women claim to be treated equally, but the treatment they give to men is a function of height vs. status. So, this equality thing is nothing but a tale.

    News flash Jennifer Batten played alongside Michael Jackson as his guitarist from the late 80’s to the 90’s as well as Orianthi, so I don’t know what she’s talking about not being able to rock out or why she felt that way sooo🤔 just so you snow flakes know there are numerous female lead bands out there that are Brutal
    Example :
    Otep
    Darkened Nocturne Slaughter cult
    Abnormality
    Wykked Wytch
    Jinjer

      There were also the Runaways, the Go-Go's, the Bangles, and the Carpenters. I'm not sure her age, but they must've been a rarity at the time.

    • @kencoleman5007
      @kencoleman5007 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Joe Ann Prince gives me pause, hearing how creepy he could get. Secretly watching the people in his house on security cameras (something that Kevin Smith revealed before the singer's death), expecting Susannah Hoffs to give him sex for "Manic Monday" instead of money, and the whole Sinead O'Connor thing, where people too readily discredit her statement about trauma.

    • @kencoleman5007
      @kencoleman5007 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Joe Ann Hearing about how his libido would angle musical decisions, I can't help but wonder if Prince was using female guitarists simply for backstage... Chemistry. If they're into it, it wouldn't be reported as much as with Hoffs or O'Connor. It's almost like Billy Corgan trying to replace Wretzky's position in the Pumpkins lineup with female bassists for the more superficial of reasons. Even with the runaways, skilled as get were, their manager leaned the trans hard on the jailbait image.
      One could say that it was pivotal how Luscious Jackson's drummer, Kate Schellenbach was a Beastie Boy until 1984. At the same time, you got the under appreciated Debbi Peterson who drives the Bangles's rhythm with a mastery comparable to Mick Fleetwood. I think that that Kim Deal's forming the Breeders was the turning point. Then, agreement to the drummer from Hole. It's when Gail Ann Dorsey and David Bowie joined up, and we got Veruca Salt, the Waifs, and that amazing drummer for the Donnas (Torry Castellano dedicated herself to hard rock to such an extent that she ruined her shoulder and had to retire in 2010).

    • @kincrawford5906
      @kincrawford5906 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your comment is moot. All of that happened AFTER she grew up and was playing. Also, she is a rock drummer. If you can name five female rock drummers without using your computer, then you are exceptional.
