That's the most incomplete video ever, don't do it wrong do it right that's all I learned from that video. Really, how's that gonna help anybody, we all know that.
By making you actually research. You thought you could get away with just watching 1 video Hahaha. You have entered the realm of endless research of every possible way of installing, instructions, how to, what tool s you need, what tools are better, discount tools, tools reviews, reviews of the guy who did the tool reviews, You will then enter the realm of shorts and all because you thought your opinion matters….well it does here…:) help
I was so confused. I don't know much about windows so I kept having to recheck the title of the video and the comments. He's saying retrofiN with so much confidence over and over but the title says retrofit and comments are saying retrofit.... I'm like how is it possible an expert window installer says the wrong term numerous times, every time, through an entire video??
This is true for an inset window or nail on new construction but for retrofit windows with a z-bar that sits on the stucco in an aluminum window it’s not necessary to put chalking on the frame or jamb of the old window because it’s covered by the z-bar. You just seal the outside and inside.
I have a question. Ok so I am having my windows replaces with retro fitted windows. One window is being made larger and adjusted to left about 4" give or take. So framing is being adjusted. Do we need to add flashing? My contractor and window guys are telling me that caulking will be enough. I really think it needs flashing but everyone but the contractor and trades are saying yes it needs flashing.
Seriously....it's a house....not a rocket. I replaced all of my foggy vinyl windows myself with the cheapest replacement panes I could find. Pop four trim pieces off, remove the glass, insert new glass, reinstall trim pieces, done. It's not hard, but window replacement company would have you believe it's like nuclear engineering. A company i had come in to give me a quote on replacing my foggy glass wanted over $1000 per window. I said no thanks and replaced the glass only in about 20 minutes for $56. Ridiculous. It was easier than changing the oil in my car.
If you are handy and have mechanical ability, a lot of things are easy for those type of people. I happen to be one as well as a 30 year window installer. $800-$1,000 per whole window replacement is not unreasonable. Could you name all the steps involved in that job? Bet you can't. And, $56 per insulated glazed unit (IGU) is ridiculously low.
@@brianmueller7913 He probably meant that 800-1000$ is installation only. Given that most contractors just put them over old windows seems to be too much to ask.
My retrofits leaked this past winter with all the rain we had. What would you suggest? Resetting and resealing or replacing them with new construction? The windows might be 10 years old at least, I'm not sure. I just moved to the house.
Hi Shawn. I had retrofit Anlin windows and so far they are holding up well. No leaking or other issues. I know the window is only as good as the install. It rained couple days ago downpours rain driven hail etc. my windows are performing well.
Well said! I have this conversation all the time with clients; however, most of them don't seem to really understand the importance of this. The only thing I would add is that if you have a failing frame or failing window flashing, Retrofit may not solve ALL of your leaking issues. Again, Great Job!
Useful video, thanks, but I'm looking at Simonton vinyl replacement windows for my stucco house, and a) there isn't an option called "retrofin" and b) neither of their 2 options have any exterior, exposed moulding like you show in this video. Their options are 1) nailfin (wide flange on the exterior but it's designed to be hidden under siding or stucco, or 2) blockfin, which has no exterior flange or moulding (if fits flush with the window opening, it slides into the existing frame, which is left in place, and it's nailed in place to the interior side of the old window frame, through the wallboard, into the studs & header. Are you as confident that this blockfin style of window can be leak free when you install them? Thanks.
How many nails should you put into the nailing fin for a new construction vinyl window because there's probably 30 slots for them and are zinc plated construction screws ok
Window manufacturers have what is called a Notice of Acceptance NOA document that shows the proper installation procedure on different types of structure that included the fastening pattern and type. At least we have that in South Florida and our inspections are tied to that. Don’t follow it and you fail inspection. Nailing at all is out of the question.
Most window and door installers are morons ,I've been in it for 32 years and was taught by old school men.....The biggest problem is no sill pan I bet these dudes don't use them either...It's an absolute must...If you can't seal a window/door properly you shouldn't be installing them. Not even on your own home.
Retrofin is bad in my opinion but retroFIT is better, just use spray foam around the window and wrap it out with aluminum pvc, caulk around it and you’re golden 👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you Shawn. I enjoy watching all of your videos. I’m in the market for replacing all of our windows. Do you know anyone here in Maryland that you can recommend to us. We live in Gaithersburg, MD. Thank you again.
where I can purchase the GE max shield all weather, I tried on lows and Home Depot but seem like none of those stores sell it? where can I get it, I live in los Angeles, thank you
We just had a bunch of retrofit windows installed. The installers put no caulking or sealant of any kind on the existing frame or on the new window flange before setting them in. They simply set the window, screwed it in, and then put a ton of silicone around the frame of the window to the stucco.
Please redo video so that it's a "pointy talkee" e.g. show what you want done as you discuss it. (If you want to show how not to do it as well, ok).In construction, it's much more effective to "show as you go". It'll get more views and more likes. Thanks!

If you say retroFIN Windows one more time... smh.. lol
What in the fuck is a retro fin windowwww!!!!!!!! Lol
Exactly 😂😂😂😂
What’s retro fin window? 😂
😂🎉😂😂😂😂😂
I think he’s trying to say Retrofit. Could just stick to saying Fin or Flange.
Problem with Vinyl is that it cracks (really bad) in Florida after just a few years of direct sunlight.
I like how he is an expert and says retrofin lmfao like 15 times

There's no reason to replace a window that leaks unless it's physically damaged, probably installed by incompetent bots.

100 percent! There are a lot of great install teams and companies out there who want to do things the right way the first time every time!
@@americanwindowconcepts how u remove metal windows and replace with vinyl windows retrofit??
Thank you, brother. I have a leaky retrofit window. It started leaking about 5 years after installation.

I live in a century home and want to replace my single pane windows. Is retrofit my only option if i want to keep my interior window trim?
How about refurbishing existing and finding vintage storm windows to add to preserve the aesthetic. 🙏
@@marcisaacs9407 thank you. I didn't realize that was an option when the window salesman quoted.

We’re listening too a man who does his eye brows lol

would you do a job in yucca valley?
How do I get flashing off
Right way 2:30
he's just bitching till then.
For other impatient people like me.
ALWAYS USE Sikaflex, Titebond...etc part polyurethane. between adjoining frames.
Polyurethane is the way to go! I agree 100%
This is the comment I was looking for, thanks for the tip!
Okay Kinky Boots, thanks for the awesome tips on how to install windows the proper way. 😂

So where does the caulking go? You said put it in the right place, but here you didn’t tell us where that was
Home Depot sells them life time warranty they inject a foam sealer
Where to put the sealant depends on what your existing windows/window frames look like, and what windows you replace them with.
What the hell... Long Beach ca? Im here!
Your hair is gorgeous btw 🤴🏻
Thanks for the information. Do you have an office in Atlanta, GA?

Your retro fit window is on the wrong side of the flashing you cant change that.

Retrofit no retrofin you talked a lot but didn't really show a proper way.
Hey guy they are retroFIT windows lol
Walk the walk, not just talk the talk. Show me the money!
Why do you keep calling them "retrofin windows?"
well fuck i just got done putting a window in the way he said not too, i watched other videos doing it that way.
Never does tell you the right way. Apparently doesn't know.
I'm here becasue my retrofit windows are leaking
Teach me please
Retrofin window or a retrofit window
Idk if I can trust a guy who wears make up 🤷♂️
Why retrofiN man?
I wouldn't hire a dude who cannot even say the product they're wanting to install correctly.
Salesmen talking about installations is funny. Not a clue.
This guy talks a lot but does not really say much😱
Crap product imo. When I was introduced to the idea/product I was not enthused.
the fruit booty window company 🤣😂🤣
