Interesting problem. Those 18" pro boxes must be huge if they are 6th order bandpass. They probably have really high group delay, too, and will likely sound much different than the Monolith 15 playing the same notes. I'm thinking the sound quality out of the Monolith will be much better (although not get close to the output) as the bandpass boxes (less 'muddy' because above the port tuning, the driver is coupled directly with the air in the room, whereas the bandpass the driver couples to the chambers which then couple to the room, which are extra steps in the chain and lead to more distortion).
Thanks for the input. I haven't measured group delay but I suspect you are right. I'm willing to bet because I'm using them well below their capabilities it helps with that to a small degree. They are large and I'm surprised my wife doesn't care that they are in the room.
He says he doesn’t have any nulls with those pro subs, so can he get the Monolith to only handle everything below 30hz? Set the crossover on the monolith to 30ish? Maybe that would make those lower frequencies sound better because that sub would be focusing on the deep low bass.
The monolith 15” is $1200, right now. The older model 15” is higher in price. Or are you talking the dual 15 sub. I have been tracking the price maybe not close enough. But isn’t the 1200 price within 100 of the lowest price?
I doubt 1 Monolith 15 is going to get anywhere close to the output of a 18" pro bandpass sub. With their limited bandwidth, that type of sub is capable of 130db output in the passband and he has 2 of them in the room. If the point is to fill in below 30Hz, he will need a pair to even get close. ( fun problem to have 🙂)
Thanks for your input. My subs are capable of 134 dB each and I see your point but here is the deal. I don't run them anywhere near that loud for my theater. At my listening levels they are putting out 100 dB which is well within the monoliths capacity. The impact in the 40-60 hz range is truly amazing from these but I want to get lower.
Thanks Tim Perry
yo to all of you guys this morning.

That was my thoughts
Thanks again! They raised the price right after I asked you this. Crazy right?
