I'm so glad I found your channel. If you are registering your boat to the Marina address, does this mean you have to over-winter the boat at that Marina?

Hi Phil, good question. The answer is yes for the first year. Then you can move the boat anywhere you want for winter. The reason you'd need to be there for the first winter is only because the authorities want to see that you have an annual contract, after that no one cares.

I found a boat in France. I'm a US citizen do I have to pay the 20% Vat or Can I get it reduced? I want to export it out of France.

VAT is paid only once when buying a NEW vessel. If you are the second owner the previous owner should supply you with a VAT paid certificate. A secondary owner never pays VAT on boats in France. Importing the vessel to another country could present local VAT issue for your specific situation. Also keep in mind that registration in Europe is an ever moving playing field. Make sure you know all the rules before playing the game.
