I agree that this has got to be some of Clapton’s best work in a very long time. A fantastic track, beautifully interpreted, and with absolutely stellar guitar work
I'll pile on and add my endorsement that we're hearing Clapton on all the lead parts. Lots of similarities to "Let It Rain" to include the vocal "ooohs" at the fade-out, the piano/guitar interplay and Clapton's tone. Nicely done.
I'm so fortunate I got to see and hear Jakob Dylan and his outstanding Echo In the Canyon band two nights in a row, first at the premier of the documentary at the LA Film School, then the next night at the CD release show at Amoeba Music, both in Hollywood in July 2019. I fell so in love with their CD that I started my own tribute to this great music. I was already a huge fan of the Laurel Canyon '60s and '70s singer/songwriters and bands, and am so grateful that this movie and CD turned me on to a lot more of it. It's such a deep catalog of so many great artists that it reminds me of the Impressionists in Paris in the 1870s & 1880s. Thank you, Jakob., for the insight and talent to do superb covers by these iconic artists. More, please!!!
I love my Buffalo Springfield CD and still play this regularly! This is really a rocking new version though. Thanks J. Dylan for bringing back some of the greatest music ever and with an exciting freshness! Magnificent job !!!
I was blessed enough to have been alive at this time in history. ! I grew up not far from Laurel Canyon., spent much time hanging out at the Country Store, saw so many of the great musicians that lived in the neighborhood. Neil Young, was the one that really stands out, because he was incredibly friendly to a 15 y o girl, from Beverly Hills High School. This music was just incredible, as were those times… the documentary, “ Echo in the canyon” … a magnificent telling of what was happening, at a particular time in history. These musical geniuses had no idea, how influential they would become, they just loved playing music, getting together, sharing ideas, It was a time of innocence, and great creativity, and if someone, “copped” a riff or line as Clapton said, …the lawsuits didn’t fly, unlike today!😫😖😖
This is better than the Springfield. I love the Buf Springfield but never so much this song. Now I feel it. "Though we rush ahead to save our time We are only what we feel And I love you, can you feel it now".
I saw Buffalo Springfield in 1967 at a relatively small club in the Phoenix, Az area and stood like 10 feet away from the stage! OM gosh! I was blown away and knew I was experiencing something incredible!
I'll never forget the first time I heard this on the radio (WNRN out of Charlottesville). I was completely blown away....knew the solo was Clapton. Came home and looked it up on the playlist and have been listening to this ever since.....many thanks.
Stephen wrote this, Buffalo Springfield made it happen. Jakob comes along with this Magical show he's made, everybody is feeling Cool. The Beauty that made this Incrieblé. You remember when there is about One human you want to talk to, you are so in love. That is the Magic of this rendition. Can Stills make Magic? Did that mystery man on guitar make it so Magical, even Stills, just laced it up? Jakob, your voice is perfection on this. Such a Loving and Lovely song. You feel the magic of loving with everything you've got. Not everyone gets that privilege. Awesome.
Eric added this into his 2023 Crossroads, LA. Give it a listen. Eric, you were mighty fine, that fine day. Guitarmanship , Mr Stills Could anyone forget you, and the Sprigfield. Lifeblood, to keep from running out. Jakob, your Magical bringing it all together, truly a gift from the Cosmos. Love you true, dear Troubadors.
Great leads from both Clapton and Stills here. Great song, great documentary and a great soundtrack. One of the better music collaboration docs I've seen in years, probably since the Lost Basement Tapes, even if a bit different than this. The talent is immense.
Hadn't heard this song since I wore it out in the sixties. Time has flown and so have we. Jakob, this is awesome. Done with love and passion. You have my respect sir.
Eric Clapton plays the higher pitched solo's & Stephen Stills plays the echo guitar parts in the lower register. A couple guitar masters bending strings like a hand in a glove.
Whether or not Stills plays on it, that’s *clearly* Clapton taking the solo. Matter of fact, before knowing who the song was from, I recognized Clapton’s playing
Cire Nosnor it’s is both Clapton and Stills. It shows Clapton in the U.K playing the song and solo. Then cut to L.A. where Stills is playing on top in a lower key accenting the solo.
Clapton plays both solos and prominent lead track. Watch the monitor with names in the movie and listen to the discussion during the song. It's brilliant!
@@viclesperance146 Did not have to watch the monitor to hear that the leads are EC , it's just him all over there, nice version of the tune, they blended it like the old pros they are.
I am a massive Stephen Stills fan and I really respect what Jakob Dylan has done with rediscovering the music that came out of Laurel Canyon in the late 60s; but it is Eric Clapton's breathtaking solo that really elevates this song into another stratosphere. Why isn't Clapton given proper credit here?
Ah, I perceive now it is Stephen. Perhaps with an occasional enhancement from autotune, which I do not begrudge him the least bit. This is a gorgeous song, written by a sensitive and feeling man. Kol ha kavod, Stephen Stills. And thank you, Jakob Dylan. You are a mensch.
I am full of sh*t, I perceive. They SHOW Clapton recording the second-verse vocals. OK. I got misled by how he pronounces the word "talk"; to me it sounded like pure Stills, but I was wrong. Stills and Clapton both show in this film how good-natured they are. Maybe that's a side benefit of aging? Anyway, kol ha kavod to them.
They are sharing the solo, Clapton in the higher register and Stills playing in a lower register. I remember this song well from the CSN&Y album. Carry On led into Questions. It was a favorite of mine back in the 70s and its still awesome.
I think both Stills and Clapton get solos on this. but does anyone understand what is going on during the filmed session? seems like JD wants Stills to add a part "next to" Clapton's (I guess so he can accomplish having them "play together"?) but Stills seems to take a pass on that. anybody?
That used to be Stephen's specialty--playing against other lead players. Did it really well with Neil and Eric once said (somewhat grudgingly) the only guy who could play with him was Stills. But he did take a pass, or whatever he did is mixed so low as to be unrecognizable.
This reminds me so much of Eric Clapton's "Let It Rain." Even EC's solo here echoes his original. Which begs the question; who copied who, Stills or Clapton?
Stills recorded the song February 16, 1968, Sunset Sound, Los Angeles, California. Vocals, guitars, bass guitar, Hohner clavinet: Stephen Stills; drums: Jimmy Karstein. Clapton's Let It Rain was recorded sometime between November 1969 - March 1970.
@@donjohnson9688 I concur, this pales in comparison to the original with Stills and Young on those double leads. Questions was actually a remake on the first track of CSNY Dejavu' in 1970 as the second part of Carry On/Questions. Skydog and Dickey of ABB are the only ones of this era who rivals them....
This is one of the great Buffalo Springfield songs (though it's really just Stills with a little help from Richie Furay in the original recording). There are things I like about the cover version, at least until the first guitar break, but I don't care for Eric Clapton's soloing here. It's kind of superficial, just a bit of flash without much creativity or soul, and too much of the screeching notes. Listen to Stills' guitar work on the original--much better in doing a service to the song. Clapton is more into slick and shallow playing here.
Ashame this dude sang everything, he sounds like a bad romantic comedy’s soundtrack, he took a big dump on classics that deserve to be sung in the same or similar style. Don’t argue with me on this.
I agree that this has got to be some of Clapton’s best work in a very long time. A fantastic track, beautifully interpreted, and with absolutely stellar guitar work
They do NOT make music this good today- so lucky to have seen it all.
They don't make musicians like this anymore ...

Does stills play on this? Can’t tell.
