Pretty late in the game of drones...I bought my Tello last month. I did one update since then. I flew my Tello outside last night in very low light condition and it was very stable and did not drift at all. I love this little fellow because it helps me learn how to fly and become better for me to fly my Mavic 2 Zoom! Thanks for the review. It helped me decide to buy it.
I bought one of these a few weeks ago and it's a great little drone. Something I'd like to add is that it seems to be very water resistant. I decided to try to get some pictures of a nearby waterfall since we had just gotten some heavy rain. The rain had slowed to a drizzle. I was using my galaxy s9 as the controller. As I was flying some water was dripping out of the trees and landed on my phone. As ya'll may know, when your phone gets wet it goes haywire with the touchscreen input. Long story short the decrease elevation control got stuck and it crashed into the creek at the base of the waterfall. I figured that it was toast and was about to walk away since I'd have to climb on some wet and slippery rocks to get to where it went down. I changed my mind since I didn't want to leave it the water to possibly pollute the stream if the battery were to rupture so I carefully climbed up to where I thought it was. I didn't see it so I watched the video I was recording to get an estimate of where it landed. I looked around and spotted it upside down in about a foot of turbulent water. I found a small tree branch and fished it out of the creek. To my surprise the led was flashing on the front. I took the battery out and climbed back down to a safe spot. I shook the water out and put the battery back in and started it up. It flew but the camera was soaked. After leaving it on the dashboard of my van with the defrost drying it out for a 45 minute drive I tried it again and it was working like a champ with good picture quality. It sat upside down under water for around 15 minutes and survived. This seems to be a tough little drone.
I have the Tello and it is still amazing in 2021 for such a small drone. I can take it pretty much anywhere. If I could do an upgrade to the Tello it would definitely be the camera. If it could have a small gimbal camera. It would be absolutely awesome.
Thank you for the review! My brother just got into flying drones so I wanted to join in. This was the cheapest drone on the store he was on. This review is just what I need. Thank you!
I have a Tello. It's basically an Upgraded version of an economy $30 entry level drones. Thus, basically one of those $30 drones with a $50 add on feature of the stability sensor. (So to speak) I just made a video review of my Tello vs a $30 Syma Sky Phantom from Costco.
Thanks so much for the review. I am thinking a buying the drone as a gift for someone and I needed to make an informed choice. I thoroughly enjoyed this video.
Hey Captain drone can you do a review on the dji tello it's been 3 or 4 years since you did a review on that drone, and it has a boost combo version of it on sale right now,and I would like to see that drone again in your video.(using iPhone 8 plus and other 5g phones reduces the frame drop)

It hard keeping a WiFi connection I have the Tello manual, I follow the step that the manual has you to follow. Still will not take off. I’m using the same app that you are using. What steps are you using?
I don't understand how people do drone reviews but they don't tell you how much flight time you get out of the drone. That's top 3 most important feature.
Simple question. Which drone that size works well when is windy? Small drone + small weight + strong wind (Tested in a bit windy weather was ok) = ? If you wanna super outside drone, buy super outside drone. Do not expect from 84g inc battery working like "wind destroyer". My phone is heavier 234g.... So lets be honest.....

This is still a good drone. Still selling strong now. I see people daily in tello Facebook groups buying them and joining. There's a new app out now with even more features and settings available, that makes it so much better still. Great first drones still, great for kids and in the UK we had rules change recently and can now fly small drones in gardens and many other new places so people who can't afford a mini are getting them as a second or back up small drone to fly all the new places we can. For the price and and size it can't be beat.
Thanks for the review. I seen the Tello at Bestbuy when it first came out. A week ago I seen it again and decided to buy it. I got the Tello boost package. It came with 3 batteries, charging hub to charge 3 batteries simultaneously. USB charge cord. 4 extra props. All for 160$ US. Then I purchased a nice case for it and also the Gamesir T1d controller. It's now a comment package. It dose fly amazing and is very stable. The video is quite well and takes good pics. Not as good as my Typhoon H. But for the money it is one good buy. I do recommend this. I'm also tying the programming capabilities it has with Drone blocks. Very fun. Thanks. Hope my review helps out to.

Hi there, love your reviews. I just recently received my tello and also experienced a lot of frame skips. I did a test using a xiomi WiFi repeater connecting it to the tello and my phone to the repeater and in my opinion it improves a lot on the frame skips.
Interesting option. This means then that the problem is in the WiFi connection (sending and receiving of data). I have found an 80% solution fix. It actually involves just running an IMU calibration. For some reason it tends to reduce the dropped frames (doesn't eliminate them, just reduces them).

Thank you for yet another thorough review. Any chance you can get a hold of the DJI dobby? It boasts of having a 15 minute battery with a 4k lens. I wonder how true that is or is it interpolated?
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 www.tsc.ca/DJI-Zerotech-Dobby-Pocket-Quadcopter-Drone-with-Camera/pages/productdetails?nav=R:661619 Somehow I believe you, but on the Canadian Shopping Channel, DJI claims they are under the same umbrella. These days look into the extra $$$ for a "Tello 3" a.k.a. Robomaster TT, it runs on 5Ghz Wi-Fi and keeps the connection a lot better. The Tello and Tello EDU don't work well with a Bluetooth controller out of the box. For the Tello, which runs on 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi, the Bluetooth controller also runs on 2.4Ghz and will cause a lot of disconnects between the phone and Tello. You have to get a wifi repeater and power pack to keep the signal strong, when using Bluetooth. In theory you can plug a OTG cable between the T1s and the phone and avoid Bluetooth but the Tello app and Volatello don't seem to recognize it. I'm testing with a better cable next week, will be making a video about this setup.
The Tello is a great outdoor drone. The problem is that with the prop Guards on as you are using it the wind obviously has more to grab to and easily tosses it around. Also I have viewed many videos and everyone mentions they run hot and that it needs cooling. But no one noticed that it does have two built in cooling scoops.
Great video and quality content with no crap and unnecessary information. Do you think adding a gopro to the top or bottom of the tello can get us better images?
Hi there captain, I'm from Portugal and I love your videos. Can u tell me which one is better to iniciate, ryze tello or bugs 2 se (using no phone, just for Flight) ? Tks and Good flights...
Hey great video mate, thanks for putting it together. Looks like a decent little drone! Could you recommend a drone that will follow you or an object with a nice image for around $350?
For that price, with a follow me, you would be looking at the MJXRC Bugs drones with GPS (for around $200 or less), or you may as well get a Pro Drone which is the DJI Spark which has Active Track and the ability to sense objects in the way when following you.
Mine failed after 1 flight. Battery says charged app says not charged will not connect or fly anymore. Sent back I think many people are having this issue. The Amazon company I Bought it from doesn't sell it anymore
Sir I'm in shipping sector and i want to buy a drone which is affordable and can withstand those wind conditions at sea , are there any? Is tello capable of handling wind ?
Hi Captain, great review. I am a newbie in drones so was thinking to get Tello when I saw it on news. But there was one concern I have which is flying in wind condition cause I want to bring the drone to places like beaches, mountains, high rise builings n etc. After watching your review, it worries me more. So can I know what would be your suggestion? Go for Tello or maybe up a little and get Spark even though I am still a newbie?
Hi Michael, the TELLO is a good drone for the price, but since it is small and light and does not come with a controller, it is difficult to control well in the wind. Also in the wind the picture and video quality is not very good because the drone is not stable. If you can afford the SPARK, it is probably the best semi-professional drone on the market. Very easy to fly, extremely stable in the wind and it takes great photos and video even when there is wind.
Tello Firmware V01.03.18.01 Released. Please Note If after updating the Tello Wi-fi changes to “Marvell Miceo AP" try as follows With the Tello off press and hold the power button for 5 seconds, after this the LED should now flash Red. Now you should be able to see Tello in your Wi-fi on your device, when you connect to the app you may see a red warning at bottom with a some codes, with the Tello still on press and hold the power button again for for 5 seconds, it then should reboot and connect normally to WiFi.
My dji tello does not fly, it keeps tipping over at one side, i checked the propellers, it is in right place. I calibrated it many times, still no luck, keeps tipping over when im going to fly it.
I love your review about Tello. Gives me 100% idea if I will buy this drone or not. Can you post the compatible phones / tablet for their tello? And do you have review for Bugs2 B2C like what you did a review for tello? I really appreciate your bugs 2 bc2 review because I'm torn to buy between tello and Bugs B2C
Thanks! The list of compatible phones keeps changing. To have a current list it would be best to either download the TELLO APP onto your phone and then go to the help support section and chat with RYZE, they will send you the current list (you don't need to own the TELLO to do this). I currently only have the BUGS 3 mini for which I did a review. If the BUGS 2 B2C is an older drone, then I might not receive it to review, but I'll keep it in mind to check for it.
What can you do via (scratch) programming? Are there any camera/lens mods such that you can shoot 45 deg video that's between the horizon and the ground? Any thoughts on other low cost drones.. Snaptain, Holy Stone F181W, Cheerwing , Haktoys ?
Captain I love ur videos please answer I need it WHAT IS YOUR BEST RECOMMENDATION FOR GOOD QUALITY STABLE VIDEO DRONES WITH THE PRICE RANGE UNDER £200 or thanks love you
The Parrot Mambo is one drone I have not tried. If I look at the specs, I see that it is using older technology so it won't be as stable as the TELLO and it won't have an advanced IMU or high end App interface. The video quality would be similar, the photo quality much less than that of the TELLO.
From all drone reviews I have seen this one sold me a product. I am going to buy this drone as for the weather We have a great weather in South Africa so no problems there.

Captian, awesome job on the reviews. Now I realise this is an old video but I have to ask. In your video you mentioned Ryze being aware of the choppy video. Have they done anything to address this or is the video quality still choppy even after all this time?
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thank you for the feedback. I'll be honest. I didn't expect you to reply so soon. Thank you. I do have another question. Would you recommend this done as a great low budget drobe for video recordings and what would you personally recommend for video if not this drone. The idea is to get a drone that's as small as possible, while kinda getting bang for your buck. I realise this is a crazy question and more than likely there is no good answer, but I figure love your channel and clearly you're the captain/king as far as I'm concerned so yeah. I figured why not ask.

What video drone or one I can put a camera on like the about 10 grams. do you recommend for around $150 that is easily portable and good outdoor? I still don't know if I want the Tello since the distance isn't that great.

The Tello is more of an in door drone with a good camera and not so good video camera and has a short range. The Spark is an indoor/outdoor drone with a great camera and great video and great range.
Just bought the Tello yesterday and grandson flew it. Excellent drone but the video was very choppy due to dropped frames. Also could not record video for more than 22 seconds - might have been user error but not sure. It flies really well and is very stable in hover. Was annoyed that it does not come with a micro usb cable to charge the batteries! Good thing I have many spare cables to charge with. Until they fix the choppy video, I'd give the drone a B+. (btw: was using a very high quality sd card in a Samsung J3 phone.)
I don't believe they will ever fix the choppy video. The drone has been on the market since early this year and the video was choppy then, and it is still choppy. For some phones, it is smooth and for others it is really choppy. It would have cost them pennies to add a micro SD slot to the Tello for video record. Guess we'll have to wait for the Tello 2 in early 2019.
Great vid! Thx for posting it. Million dollar question- you have $100 to spend, do you automatically go with the Tello? If so, what would your #2 choice be, and why? Thx again!
Thanks for the replies. So, for a beginner who's never owned a copter, is the Tello your suggestion, or would one of those other two options be a better bang for the buck? Thx again!
if you want to fly further you can get a USB Wi-Fi extender and plug it into a power bank and then connect the drone to it and the phone it works pretty good and if you pay a little more for a longer range extender you can fly even further

In theory you can plug a OTG cable between the T1s and the phone and avoid Bluetooth but the Tello app and Volatello don't seem to recognize it. I'm testing with a better cable next week, will be making a video about this setup.
Great! This answered my question. It Isn't very good out of doors. Thanks for the brief, but complete evaluation of this small INDOOR quad.
2:29 I like your organization!
Hi I really like the video! can I also buy the active colling and the hybrid ones from shoppe?
You can buy a Mi home wifi amolifier to extend ur tello up to 200meters! It Worth a try!
I flew mine at 25 meters with strong wing gusts and it barely moved
Don't fly over water !
Great video and quality content with no crap and unnecessary information.
Do you think adding a gopro to the top or bottom of the tello can get us better images?
A GoPro (SESSION) would be too large for the TELLO
CAPTAIN DRONE thank you!
Hi there captain, I'm from Portugal and I love your videos. Can u tell me which one is better to iniciate, ryze tello or bugs 2 se (using no phone, just for Flight) ? Tks and Good flights...
The TELLO is for indoors and the BUGS is for outdoors. You decide.
Hi captain ...
Captain- I am from India and want to buy a drone to shoot travel videos and photo. Can you please suggest the best cost effective drone?
Hi sir it is best camera drone in that price segment or another one ?
thank u for your informative review. does samsung note 9 supports tello app??? As this device is not included in the mobile list
I am not a reviewer of PHONES, so I can't tell you.
Thank you for that@@CAPTAINDRONE798
Great videos!
Is tello capable of handling wind ?
i just buy yesterday!! nice video
Thanks Captain :)
Nice job man, keep it up
Ayyyy Ben from authentech
AYYYYYYY
Excellent review Cap.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing the fun. Hope you are having a great day.✌️❤️🇺🇸
Do you still recommend this drone for 2020? I’m highly considering because it’s cheap and looks pretty cool for a beginner like me.
Good indoor drone.
Sir, please how much do you buy it please
Tello Firmware V01.03.18.01 Released.
Please Note
If after updating the Tello Wi-fi changes to
“Marvell Miceo AP" try as follows
With the Tello off press and hold the power button for 5 seconds, after this the LED should now flash Red.
Drones tip over if the props are on wrong, props are damaged or one or two motors are damaged (not spinning at the correct speed).
Thanks for all the info. Very helpful:)
Captain I love ur videos please answer I need it WHAT IS YOUR BEST RECOMMENDATION FOR GOOD QUALITY STABLE VIDEO DRONES WITH THE PRICE RANGE UNDER £200 or thanks love you
CSJ X7 PRO 2
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thanks so much love ur videos
Great review, thanks! Would you recommend the tello against the mambo fpv?
The Parrot Mambo is one drone I have not tried. If I look at the specs, I see that it is using older technology so it won't be as stable as the TELLO and it won't have an advanced IMU or high end App interface. The video quality would be similar, the photo quality much less than that of the TELLO.
From all drone reviews I have seen this one sold me a product. I am going to buy this drone as for the weather We have a great weather in South Africa so no problems there.
Great, you will enjoy it!

Great video. One of the best I seen
i like the way of explaining things it's very awesome merci beaucoup
Thank you Joseph!
Nice review! Thanks for that! Much information, well all information I think!
Hello
Which selfie drone do you recommend me to buy for my vacation with familly?
Easy to use and not too expensive
This is about as cheap/low cost as you can go for an easy to use Selfie Drone. th-cam.com/video/m0UbNstK8VM/w-d-xo.html
Hi again
Let's say up to 150-200 usd
High speed mode can shake even 30kmh winds , im always on HS
it saved my drone
Sir which is better drone under 15k good camera quality
Very nice and honest review man
Thank you!
Nice review Captain😊
Thank you!
Captian, awesome job on the reviews. Now I realise this is an old video but I have to ask. In your video you mentioned Ryze being aware of the choppy video. Have they done anything to address this or is the video quality still choppy even after all this time?
Somewhat but some people still experience it.
Ras Al-ghul This is an indoor drone. More for fun then anything else.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I get you. Was worth a shot lol thank you and keep up the good work. I find the reviews in depth and it ticks all the boxes I feel I need to know about drones. Really helpful. Thank you again!
@@rasal-ghul9859 Tello is great. I only fly outside and Tello has no issue. Check out some of my videos to see some cool Tello footage.
What video drone or one I can put a camera on like the about 10 grams. do you recommend for around $150 that is easily portable and good outdoor? I still don't know if I want the Tello since the distance isn't that great.
OlivierTheGamer
Buy a xiaomi WiFi Extender, Buy the TelloFPV App and Buy a gamecontroller and you Made a dji spark out of your tello.
Otherwise the Beast sg906 drone is cool IF YOU HAVE A NEW FAST PHONE.
And you can Search for the c fly dream. Dont Buy the heron!
Should i buy this drone or save up a few months more to buy a spark?
The Tello is more of an in door drone with a good camera and not so good video camera and has a short range. The Spark is an indoor/outdoor drone with a great camera and great video and great range.
CAPTAIN DRONE
But it's considerably more expensive though ($400). At $100 for Tello, thats a price any tightwad can live with, and I should know. 🔯😁
Thanks for the nice review.
My pleasure!
Excellent video. Thank you for the time and effort.
Glad you enjoyed it! A few follow up videos on the way.
Why say "stay tuned for my review...." when you mean "skip forwards 20seconds to get past the credits"?
Yup, I stopped doing that many months ago. Thought it was cool... but it got old quick.
Would it be possible to build a man size drone and install the technology from a tello ?
I hope they will have the year edition which only for upgrading each models battery
Good video...very clear...so clear in fact I can see a hair wrapped around one of the props in the beginning.
I know! I only saw that when I was editing the video and everything was zoomed in.
yes I noticed too
Just looking at getting a Tello drone.I would like to try learning some programming,so what about the Tello Edu?ITello Iron Man Edition?
It is an indoor drone with simple programming language if you have the time to learn.
Nice detail story, the new after market app fly solves the choppy vedio
I love the the full video great.. please let me know the hight and distance this can fly....
CAPTAIN DRONE would a usb WiFi extender help?
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 only for the tello 2 to never come...
Also, i bought my drone last year and the video isnt choppy, laggy sure but not choppy.
Great vid! Thx for posting it. Million dollar question- you have $100 to spend, do you automatically go with the Tello? If so, what would your #2 choice be, and why? Thx again!
For me, I like to fly fast with plenty of power, outdoors, so my second choice would be the BUGS 3 Mini. It is normally sold around the $100 mark.
One other option would be the EACHINE M80. That drone is an absolute joy to fly indoors and out.
Thanks for the replies. So, for a beginner who's never owned a copter, is the Tello your suggestion, or would one of those other two options be a better bang for the buck? Thx again!
305sergio The other two are more for experienced drone pilots by far. The Tello is the perfect beginner drone.
If you set your Tello to fast mode it can fly in slightly higher winds without blowing away
if you want to fly further you can get a USB Wi-Fi extender and plug it into a power bank and then connect the drone to it and the phone it works pretty good and if you pay a little more for a longer range extender you can fly even further
@@alexanderzawydiwski9534 where can I get a wi-fi long range extender?
Keep it up! Very nice video
