I’m so proud of you James! It’s really inspiring to know that you were someone who went from not knowing too much about fashion to wanting to create his own designs in just 3 years! Very proud of you for nurturing your interests and believing in yourself no matter where you are in life!
im really inspired by james story, ive been struggling with a lot of doubt and guilt over planning to quit my job despite only working a year, but i resonated with what you said about not feeling like you fit in with corporate values - even when it seems like nothings actually wrong. thank you for being brave enough to share
i appreciate the transparency of this video, james. the way you speak about sarah pushing and supporting you to tackle your creative side is very heartwarming. all the best to you!
I quit my job in 2021 with absolutely no money saved. This journey has been excruciatingly painful 😅. I’ve now quit my business a year ago and have even grown to resent it because I gave it 200% daily and got about 32% back. Now, I work as a babysitter and it’s really fulfilling and I absolutely love the children I work with. Nothings perfect but that’s life in your 20 somethings 😂
wow I can't believe this!!! I saw the pants James made on TikTok and around the same time I started watching you guys without making the connection! I love the pants, they're so goofy and have so much character. Good luck on your designer journey!
wow what an incredibly thoughtful episode! soju with sarah will always be my favorite podcast because of how honest and vulnerable you guys are 😊 i appreciate james for sharing his journey in this one and am excited for what he's going to do next in his career 🎉 p.s. sarah you were such a good interviewer!!
James, I think it’s super cool and courageous that you’re pursuing your interests full-time now! You should be proud of yourself. Wishing you the best on this new journey ✨ and Sarah, idk how you do it girl - having a big girl job and all these side hustles?? 😭 big props to you. If you quit your full-time job one day, I wonder if having a part-time job would be a good solution so that you have more time to create content and tap into your hobbies/interests but also have a responsibility to look forward to and talk about, while having a stream of income outside of content creation. Alsoooo, I love how the two of you are so eloquent lol I’m the same age as y’all but I feel like y’all are “more mature” because of how well-spoken you are.
I resonate with james in that i didn’t have a full plan when i quit my job, and it’s over half a year. Still pursuing my interests and dabbling in podcasting/content creating, good luck to everyone on their journey to finding what you really want to do ❤
This video about your journey from tech to fashion design is incredibly inspiring! Your honesty about the challenges you faced, like navigating corporate culture and overcoming self-doubt, really resonated with me. It's a powerful reminder that pursuing your passions, even if it means taking a leap of faith, can lead to incredible fulfillment. I'm curious to hear more about your creative process and how you've built your brand.
JUICY J’S STAND UP 🫡 James, wishing you the best on your journey of becoming a billionaire. As a creative that’s still trying to find an outlet, it’s reassuring and inspiring to hear about you taking steps to pursue your creativity. This is one of my favorite episodes for sure, thank you for your vulnerability 🫶🏽
Woah those pants are sick!! Also, as another creator (with fear of instability) always considering whether or not to take the leap of faith into full-time creating, it’s so scary, so it’s cool to see someone else do it (:
First podcast episode I’ve watched in awhile as I catch up on them. I feel like I’m living the same life as James. I’ve always been creative, live in the south, about to start my last semester as an Econ student, and have a full time consulting job lined up 😭 hopefully my leap of faith gets taken one day
Congrats ya'll and loved this episode! One thing that's helped me as a freelancer/creator this year (2 years in post college) has been breaking down income into: 60% to the "business" account, 15% to taxes, 10% to emergency fund, and 15% to ROTH IRA. Also worth looking up SEP IRA's once u reach the yearly max contribution for Roth IRAs.
I wholeheartedly pray that the both of you achieve every one of your goals in 2025. Life can often feel overwhelming and daunting, but sometimes it's necessary to take a leap of faith and try something new. I recently heard a saying: "We’re so accustomed to aiming and firing, but never actually shooting." So, I’m incredibly proud that James finally took the shot and seized the opportunity! It won’t be easy, but with determination and focus, success is within your reach. I’m truly excited to see your BRAND come to life . Oh and an episode suggestion is 28 Lessons that James learnt before 28 ( Sarah should also do one for her birthday ) . I'm sending a lot of love to you guys and I'm so excited for this podcast to grow into SOMETHING BIG !! BTW Sarah you make a great host : } - Anxious 18 year old slab of butter
wow james' issues at work parallel mine #oof but this was so enlightening and i am definitely going to try to dive into my creative work more this year bc of this 🙏🙏🙏
I think the reason why he was passed on promotion because the manager was relying too much on James to cover for him. If James got promoted he would had no one to cover his butt 😂Glad you have another side hustle that turned out alright.
Not very similar but I recently stepped down from a manager position at my job so I could work part time and concentrate on finishing school. Even that was a hard decision to make so I really enjoyed this more in-depth conversation of what that's like. It's nerve-racking to make a decision for yourself but it's so important to bet on you!
Maybe a random thought: but I am sure a lot of people would love to hear your advice that James gives in DMs… so maybe start a series while you sew and respond!
i'm also a capricorn and i picked up a random indie publication on my trip to japan with the horoscope for capricorn that goes like this (google translated!) "you'll be successful by adding new value to things no one paid attention to. a novel perspective that overturns common sense is likely to be highly praised. although work is going well, be careful not to get sick from overwork. your luck will increase if you decorate your home beautifully with furniture, interior decoration, gardening, etc. building peaceful relationships with people around you will bring you good fortune. good luck | corn, airplanes, movies, watches" i think this will be a good year for james :D
thank you so much for sharing this!! sarah and i read it and were like wow this is such a great comment :) felt so applicable (hopefully) and is such a nice horoscope to reference throughout the year -- hoping this all comes to fruition for you too as a fellow capricorn!!
side note: episodes with James remind me of Chloe & Eric with the JOMO pod which I love but SWS seems more relatable, I feel like I can understand you guys a little more - thanks for being here and encouraging creative spaces! 🫶🏾
happy soju friday! thank yall for joining us today & special thank you to james for being so vulnerable in today’s episode ❤️
