GOG is an absolute dream for me, not just having a digital archive but being able to run games easily in DOSBox :) Would love to see a Tex Murphy review from you! Never knew about Spycraft, sounds like a "great game" XD
Hey MetalJesus! I've been watching your channel for a really long time, and you have inspired me to start making my own collection and Game Room and today was the day I finally showcased it on my channel as my 1 year of collecting! :D Thank you so much for the inspiration and keep up the great work, all your content is phenomenal!
OH SHIT. KALI!!! I remember having to pay a one time fee of 20 dollars and you could use it forever. Used to play Jedi Knight, and Quake II on Kali. Man it's awesome that someone else used that service :)
it was great true but when incoming came out in the voodoo 1 era every one already seamed to have forgotten it for some reason... I remember telling my friends at school "incoming is basically descent with hardware acceleration and a splash of extra color" and them looking at me puzzled
Hey, Metal Jesus. Long time GOG.com user here. Joined when they were in Beta. Currently 741 games in my library. Couple of things you may be interested in: * The Descent series is back on GOG now, as someone mentioned earlier. * The current releases of Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics don't include as many extras as Bethesda doesn't have the rights to them - no Fallout Bible for example. * Realms of Arkania is based on the long running German tabletop RPG The Dark Eye. Keep up the great videos! Flynn
Duke 3D Atomic Edition is gone because GearBox saw $$ signs. They took down the Atomic Edition from every store, and put up their newly crafted World Tour edition, which looks and sounds worse, jacked up the price to $20, and now that's the only thing you can buy online.
I have a love/hate with GOG. I love the fact that they have so many games, but I hate the fact that I buy SO many and never seem to get around to playing them. A true case of too many games and not enough time. I had forgotten that I even had Planescape Torment and Icewind Dale, along with many others.
I just checked, they are availiable! I don't know if it's the case with the Descent Series, but sometimes Games got pulled from the Store just to reappear again, beacuse the rights-holder changed! Happened for example with the Fallout-Series. Notice, that in his library it says Fallout Classic! That's the Interplay-Version and has many more extras than the Bethesda-Version of the same games!
Sanbromi www.gog.com/news/welcome_back_descent_series And you are welcome. But the offer finished and the pack disappeared. So you just get the games seperately. But it's better than a homing missile up your thrusters
Both of the Jazz Jackrabbit games were released on gog. Almost pissed my pants in excitement when I found out. Definitely grab those if you haven't already!

Pretty silly fight the good fight bud . You could take it a step further and ditch windows for linux . Then you ll really show em
Heh, I've got little over 500 games in my GOG library, two of the most recent games I got was Jazz Jackrabbit 1 and 2. I have gotten some of the games via GOG Connect, which is for connecting your Steam and GOG accounts so that you can get DRM free versions of them on GOG.
You're right Realms of Arkania based on a German pen & paper RPG called "The Dark Eye" ( in German "Das Schwarze Auge") It has the same popularity as Warhammer.....well at least in Germany^^
I was literally about to comment on the old full throttle review "we need more of these!" But of course you read my mind. Thank god for you Metal Jesus lol
I almost fell out of my chair when you mentioned Interstate '76 because I had played that back in 1998 and couldn't remember the name of it when I decided to try to find it online recently. It's definitely another one that I'd like to see a modern remake of.
GOG is great. I've built my collection for many of the same reasons you have, MJ, to have an archive of many of the games I already own, but also to try games I always wanted to play, but couldn't afford at the time. The sales are great. I've been a fan of GOG for several years now, and it is my preferred digital store. If I can get new releases on GOG I will almost always spring for it there instead of Steam. I sound like an ad, but I don't care!
I absolutely love GOG! My collection currently sits at 132 games, whereas I have about 6 or 7 on Steam. The last physical PC game I bought was somewhere around Duke Nukem 3D, so I'm really out of the loop when it comes to dealing with compatibility issues, and GOG fixes all of that. They have a great mix of old and new stuff, and they've done a great job of reintroducing me to PC games, as well as catching me up on about 30 years worth of titles I'd missed. Plus, you can't beat DRM free. I see some real classics there, Jesus! Anachronox is great; if you ever wondered what life in the mid-'90s was like, it captures that perfectly, and satirizes everything from office culture to fast food. Actually, though I haven't finished it yet, Nox is a lot like that, too; it does play a bit like Diablo, but it's faster, and a lot less mindless, since you have to think more about how you manage crowds. I have to thank you for showing me your collection, too; I've been wanting to play Curse of the Azure Bonds, but I couldn't find it on the site; now I know where to look!
You are missing some great old games from gog like: Anvil of Dawn, Arcanum, Blitzkrieg, Gabriel Knight 2, Heroes of Might & Magic 2 & 3, The Journeyman Project Series, Might & Magic 7, Little Big Adventure 1 & 2, Realms of the Haunting, Jedi Knight Series, The Longest Journey & Dreamfall, Desperados, King's Bounty Series, The Last Express, Homeworld Emergence, Homeworld Remastered Collection, Freespace 1&2, Turok 1 & 2 Remastered, Xanadu Next, X-Wing & Tie Fighter Special Edition, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter, X-Wing Alliance. These games are must have. Put them in your wish list to get e-mails when they are on sale.
I had no idea about this site actually existing or anything like that and I'm really glad to have discovered it, especially since the games are ones I remember reading about in magazines, seeing on video game shows but seldom ever owned myself and had just assumed where lost to the ages. Especially the graphic adventure games. All the System Shock Games, The Dig and a few others I saw, dude, it all is cool points, so many cool points. Awesome.
Jagged Alliance isn't a multiplayer game, it's a tactical RPG...they are very deep games, especially JA2. Think X-com UFO Defense meets Fallout 1 or 2.
Cool to see that you have Realms of Arkania! I loved those games as a child and played them over and over again. They were based on a German pen&paper RPG of the same name (Das Schwarze Auge, literally meaning "The Black Eye"), which again was based on Dungeons and Dragons. These games formed a trilogy, although their story was hardly connected at all. So you should be able to enjoy them pretty much independent from one another, which is important, since the first game, i.e. Blade of Destiny, was quite difficult and the least fun of them all. So if that one doesn't quite appeal to you, I recommend trying out Star Trail instead. Shadows of Riva is then the final game in that trilogy.
Sierra released an RTS in the early 2000s called Empire Earth and Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest. Its my favorite RTS game of all time and that's the only game I have on GOG. Unfortunately Sierra took down the online servers so you can't play online but man what a game. It plays great though very impressed with GOG
You never played Jagged Alliance?! Dude it's turn based mercenary game. Probably the best of it's kind compared to the old X-COM. Definitely recommend.
I wish they had the old comedic classic Monty Python & the Quest for the Holy Grail released in '96. I bought it at the time and it's tremendously fun like the movie. But I guess it never got remastered to work on modern pc's which is a real shame.
Interestingly enough, Sierra wanted a sequel to Betrayal at Krondor (and had a direct sequel lined up) but sales weren’t what they wanted, so the lead designers of BaK left the company and Sierra lost the Riftwar license. Consequently, Betrayal in Antara uses the same engine, but is set in a completely different universe with no connection to Krondor.
Well despite having less physical games than the mighty MJR I can brag to have 20 more GoG games :D Great thing about GoG is that you can install these games on many computers, you really do OWN them.
That's awesome you showed off your digtial game collections along side the physical ones. I love GOG for having classic PC games at affordable prices and able to run on my current Windows 10 machine. I also use "open port" engines to make modernized versions that I launched from Steam.
Slipstream 5000! I played that game so much when I was a kid, been thinking about it for months now but I couldn't remember what the title was. Thank you MJR!
Stonekeep was indeed a classic! A mixture of Doom-style play with RPG elements and FMV shots. If you were lucky, you could get the version with the included novella giving a bit of backstory to the game.
I was so happy when I learned about GOG. I have a bunch of retro games on steam but I can't play them on my dedicated XP computer anymore so GOG is a lifesaver
Thanks for the video! Nice to see a solution - I was keeping all my old computers, just in case I wanted to resurrect one to play some of my old games - guess there is no need to now..!
Death Magnetic was okay. Black album was pretty weak in my opinion. That was the beginning of their softer sound. I was partial to the Garage Inc album too, even though it was all covers.
Just heard about Good Old Games and I’m so happy to find a cheap gaming website with old games that work on my Windows 10! (KotOR and Jade Empire in particular.) it’s a shame not many know about it!
I kind of laughed when Metal Jesus just glossed over Mount & Blade. Metal Jesus, *stay away from that game.* I am not saying it sucks, I am saying you will not have enough time to play that game.
i got Fallout 1, 2 & Tactics for free during a GOG giveaway special, then i have 15 D&D Games because of a D&D package sale and finally i have all the freebies. anybody who's a gamer needs to check out GOG, because they are working hard to supply games that you can play on windows that you at one time could only play on DOS, like Beneath a Steel Empire.
Remember reading through Fallout Bible and what led to it's release and even remember Chris Avellone putting up these small Fallout quiz and trivia which were then added to the bible.Van Buren...always brings a tear to my eye
Simpler times I guess.Nowadays most people don't care much for manuals or these kinds of extra tidbits packed inside those big boxes. Also great to see PS:Torment get more love from you xD
Man, you gotta add the Kyrandia games to that collection. Those were some of my favorites growing up along with the Sierra and Lucas games. You won't be disappointed!
I loooved Septerra Core back in the day, and have always wanted to play through it again. Thaks for reminding me where to find it, Metal Jesus. There are also quite a few other gems on your list I want to check out. Especially the RPGs. :-)
I'd never heard of GOG.com before this video! Many thanks MJR...SO many great, classic old games - my first download: the wonderful 'Dungeon Keeper (Gold Edition)'! A firm favourite of mine from many years ago, and haven't played it for over 10 years, after Windows stopped working well with it (plus I seem to have 'lost' the original CD - still got the old big-box packaging though!). I'd never have dreamed that I could have it running perfectly on my MacBook, but it does! Thanks again... :-)
14:14 I never played Outcast, but for me those voxels dredged up old memories of Comanche: Maximum Overkill! I had completely forgotten about that graphical style. What an incredible blast from the past. Thanks for the good video!
This is really cool, I think I will definitely check out GOG and try some of these games, especially Vampire and Ultima. When i was younger, my dad bought my sister and I Myst that came with Riven. I remember being too young to understand how to play, but also being taken into the world of Myst by the graphics and endlessly exploring the world. Seeing your videos on PC games and some Ultima reviews makes me want to play these games. PC just seems so much more superior to consoles. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the review. I added a couple of games from your collection to my wishlist. I actually like this service because of the additional godies they provide games with such as soundtracks, wallpapers, manuals etc.
What a great video I found in recommendations, after 7 years) thanks for the list, which I will add to my collection. It's a pity that old games are rarely released now, for example Gods Lands of Infinity, The Chosen: Well of Souls, Mage Knight apocalypse, etc. Although they are not perfect, they had their pleasant moments
OUTCAST is the bomb. My favorite game to this day nothing has lived up to it. Definitely a hidden gem. The voxels are the least of the notable items. Excellent adventure and action. Amazing voice acting. Lots of humor. Immersive sound effects. Epic score performed by Moscow orchestra/choir. Lots of Easter eggs and replayability. So excited for reboot.
I also remember most of these "Gold Box"games as not having enough disc space for the in game text. Frequently the on screen display would request you read an passage from the manual.
For people who don't know, GOG is owned(and was created) by CD Projekt(The Witcher trilogy)
Bojan Babic wow good to know thanks
I probably should have mentioned that. Great company.
CD Projekt Red
@@Ponaru CD Projekt Red is the game developer. CD Projekt is the main company.
@@hotdogcandy Ah, I see.
GOG lets you keep the full game forever and install it on any computer with no copy protection etc. It's by far my favorite!
I love GOG. I'm currently up to 131. GOG is a gold mine of great games.
Can you recommend any platformers??? :)
Damn I'm sure you have not time to play them all even if you can play 48 hours straight

Descent was mind blowing in 1995 - I remember playing a lot of that with my floormates in college
True classic. As silly as it sounds, I wish they had Chex Quest on there.
It was the first online multiplayer game I played. You had to use a service called Kali, which emulated local IPX network protocols over TCP/IP.
OH SHIT. KALI!!! I remember having to pay a one time fee of 20 dollars and you could use it forever. Used to play Jedi Knight, and Quake II on Kali. Man it's awesome that someone else used that service :)

Lon.TV you can play adroid wits ps1 emu.
13:26 you don't know what Mount and Blade is? You have GOT to play it, amazing series.
Warband is the best version though.
Rob Freebeard yes for sure but might as well dip your toes in the freebie one first.
Thanks to MJR turning me on to GOG, I was able to get the entire wing commander series for 11$. That was a steal.

That would be John Hancock.
Pretty much because i don't even have half the games he has and i realized i will die before playing most of them.
I would donate 5 years of my life to him if I could get sheeny gami eyes in return
Interesting video and GOG has a awesome library of new and classic games.
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it :)
Descent is avaible again in the GOG store. As well as Descent 3.
ViDi Games they are? Thanks for the info
Good to hear! Those games should be in every FPS game fans library.
Not. Anymore... they got pulled because the makers weren't getting paid the royalties they were due.

Yes, MJ, you are correct about Feist. Great series of books, and a great format to play the games.
Betrayal At Krondor is easily one of my favorite games of all time!

I played soooo much shogo...almost forgot about it, so thanks for reminding me and introducing gog.com
Also, great to see you like the Crusader games, so underrrated.
Currently working on a review on them as well as something called "Cryostasis"
I loved how you lived your library with us
GOG is Polish company, part of CD Projekt group - Witcher makers
This is really cool, I think I will definitely check out GOG and try some of these games, especially Vampire and Ultima. When i was younger, my dad bought my sister and I Myst that came with Riven. I remember being too young to understand how to play, but also being taken into the world of Myst by the graphics and endlessly exploring the world. Seeing your videos on PC games and some Ultima reviews makes me want to play these games. PC just seems so much more superior to consoles. Thanks for sharing.
Such great classic's like Nox which is a Diablo clone, but such a great game. Dark Reign 2 a RTS game. Turrok a FPS. so many great titles on GOG.
GOG> playing games without having to be online
Thank you for the review. I added a couple of games from your collection to my wishlist. I actually like this service because of the additional godies they provide games with such as soundtracks, wallpapers, manuals etc.
Saw NoX in the thumbnail and had to watch such an awesome game
What a great video I found in recommendations, after 7 years) thanks for the list, which I will add to my collection. It's a pity that old games are rarely released now, for example Gods Lands of Infinity, The Chosen: Well of Souls, Mage Knight apocalypse, etc. Although they are not perfect, they had their pleasant moments
I have 218 games on there, and over 300 on Steam. They don't let me have shoelaces where i am.
Reminds me of my humble bundle collection. So many games that I got in bundles for 10$ of less
I didn't know that there were people who loved tank controls! At the very least, they bring back memories!
Love the collection!
I have over 400 games on GoG account. I may have an old game collecting problem.
GULP! When you said 87 games I thought that's great. Then I looked at my library... 150!!! Eek... Great video, as always.
GOG has far too much of my money. Cool idea to run through the library like this, MetalJesus.
I also remember most of these "Gold Box"games as not having enough disc space for the in game text. Frequently the on screen display would request you read an passage from the manual.
