Welldone ma. To make it easier, acceptance criteria is from the user perspective, a checklist for the user, what the users what to see, while DOD is from the developers checklist to see a task as been done, tested and trusted without bugs. Nice video

@@Kingsonkay acceptance criteria is a checklist of what the user wants to see to be happy. DOD is a checklist of what developers ticks to make sure the task meets what’s the customer want to see without issues.

Building a house requires the builders to follow certains rules ( construction code) , once the house is done the building inspector check that the house have been followed : the house pass inspection .
    Acceptance Criteria : construction code
Pass inspection : DOD ( definition of done)

    Hey Karen,
Kudos to the great job of giving back to the community and making it a better place than you made it.
Just to add to your great pool of knowledge. I will like to take a very very simple and clear example. Let us assume that the project was to construct a house. If the 1st sprint is to construct the foundation, the Acceptance Criteria, AC here will be getting sufficient materials (eg, stones, concrete, cement, iron rods, ...other tools and appropriate knowledge & time) required for the foundation. In short, AC is getting sufficient materials, tools, knowledge and time for the increment. Remember the foundation is not constructed yet. not even started. just about to remove the aforementioned materials materials from the Product backlog to the sprint Backlog before the Construction Team can start the building of the foundation.
As regards DoD, in the same vein, should be, The team has already constructed the foundation to the standards expected by the customer as described by the PO in the user story. DoD now can consist of the Foundation being level, Solid, strong, thick, dry... and can now be used (i.e blocks can now be laid on it). That now is definition of done, DoD.
Guys, remember that the increment for this sprint is just another PBI for the next sprint. So if working with different inter-dependent teams, there should be effective communication so that your DoD matched the other teams AC. Without which, your team has basically released an OUTPUT instead of an OUTCOME. the next team will not be able to proceed their work because your increment, the FOUNDATION will not meet their ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA.
AC= adequate material, information, knowledge, time... on the Product Backlog Item to start the Sprint with.
DoD= Shiphable or Deployable increment satisfactorily matches the stakeholder/customer's order.

In most projects, the AC can either be rule-based or scenario-based using 'Given', 'When' and 'Then'

Here's an *Example* using this video:
user story: *as a* prospective scrum master, *I want a* video on acceptance criteria vs DoD *so that* I can properly guide my team and deliver for stakeholders
    *Acceptance Criteria:*
*Given that* prospective scrum masters ask us about AC vs DoD...
*When* they click on this video...
*Then* they should be thoroughly educated on AC vs DoD.
    *Definition of Done:*
    1. Video explains AC with examples
    2. Video explains DoD with examples
    3. Video explains differences between DoD and AC.
    4. Video offers two 5 minutes self tests on (1), (2) and (3) each.
    Was that helpful?

    • @BeingAgile_Consulting
      @BeingAgile_Consulting  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Great question, AC is written when the story is created, and written by who ever created the story. DOD is crafted before the team embarks on the project, often written when the team is establishing their working agreement during the forming phase .
