Apparently using Optifine with shaders that have entity shadows breaks the Cave Dwellers animations. It’s supposed to have a crawling animation and it isn’t just supposed to glide towards you during a chase.
The giant caves can get pretty creepy, but nothing compared to the old days of when you were in a tight tunnel network, realized you were lost and then the most spine-chilling noise came came like a freight train and left you in complete silence.
For those wondering, Gargin is the same guy who made the super smart Nextbot for Gmod. He applied same sort of philosophy here. An AI having way too much life, movement and intelligence in a game full of simple mechanics.
The Apex partnership bit was amazing, Knarfy! It was cool how you walked through the forest while you talked about your partnership. I love the way you portrayed your partnership in the past, but this one was unique. Great work, Knarfy!

I just watched two grown men be utterly terrified by something with the muscle mass of a popsicle stick and wretched dental hygiene in a video game. What a time to be alive
My only complaints with the mod are how frequently it makes sounds, and how quickly it returns. It's meant to feel like a piercing screech in darkness, not a cacophony drowning out your footsteps. It happens just a bit to fast for there to be that feeling of powerlessness and a lack of knowledge.
there are 2 versions of the mod, knarfy here is playing the nightmare version which is more geared for content creation and will spawn the cave dweller much more frequently. the regular mod take a lot longer and has a much more eire build up than this version, its just that waiting 20 mins for a chase to happen isn't really something yter want. on top of this knarfy picked a really huge cave to speed up progression but this doesn't really allow for the cave dweller to spawn anywhere secretly. in a cave with long winding tunnels the sight of two glowing eyes at the end of a pitch black tunnel is genuinely really terrifying, speaking from experience.
@@lyscp1572 That is a good point, though the nature of the sound it makes can also be somewhat of a mood killer. The way it starts slow and drones on serves to make it more expected and less piercing. Other than those two things, the mod is great. The only way it would be made truly better, would be if it had some sort of learning and reputation system.
Personally, I don’t like the animations all too well. The design could also be improved, but I like the glowing face part of it. When you see it in the light, it looks really goofy.
@@thepeytondog I suppose darkening the skin color and making it more jittery could help. And maybe making it prioritize staying in the dark more often.

this is by far one of the scariest minecraft videos I've ever watched and idk why. The silence and awkward conversations increase the tension, the caves feel bigger with echo... so good
I personally enjoy the idea of the Cave Dweller as a mob. Though I wonder if it were to have a drop what would it be and how can the player abuse its power?
hearing a spooky sound irl in the middle of the night instead of in game where you know where the source is gives "where did that come from" a whole new feeling lmao
the thing that i like about this horror mod is that it doesn't ruin the ability to still play minecraft. there are ways to avoid it there are ways to escape it and there are some horror mods that just throw a unkillable entity in your face no matter where you are or what you're doing and you just die to a loud noise.
To Knarfy: For parking on a driveway and driving on a parkway, I don’t really know. However, the terms “Highway” and “Freeway” are synonyms, and they mean the same thing. Hope that helps you out Knarfy 🙂

Gargin is nuts btw, I'd like to mention this isn't the only thing he's made scarier. He took the casual gmod nextbot and gave it responses to the player similar to this mod. I seriously suggest keeping an eye on what he'll do next because twice he's made something really cool of something notoriously simple. edit: I don't know why but it seems like the cave dweller's animations are broken, as he should have multiple movement animations, as well as a crawl, crouch, stalk type walk, full-sprint, and other kinds of stuff.
@@Darklordhedgehog I think it's either other mods or shaders. The only one I saw that didn't break animations was when it he didn't have shaders. And, from previous experience, custom animations seem to break when shaders are on.

Bro sadly forgot to add the "GeckoLib" Mod to the modpack so the Cave Dweller would have his actual animations and cool like crawling abilities- thats kinda sad but overall nice vid!

Epic. I heard that using Rubidium + Oculus along with any shaders is better than Opti-fine with any shaders because it keeps the cave dweller's animation. Don't know if its true, but it's worth a try.
Yeah the Cave Dweller is pretty fun with friends and not super hard to bring down if you have a large enough, and or coordinated, team. Forge Labs was my first encounter with it. They had three team members used Boats to make it easier to kill so I'll give you that you guys only had two and did it with simple hack and that's slightly more impressive. Personally I want to see this mod further developed with more cave dwellers and a fix for the 'locks on one and stays locked for multiple rounds' bug because it seems to occur in a lot of videos.
When playing on bedrock edition on a flat world in creative mode sometimes while I’m just building in the middle of nowhere I hear a cave sound, on the surface. This is more proof that bedrock is torture compared to Java if you didn’t already believe that
Idea: I bet this’ll crash your computer, 1st: download way to many realistic Minecraft texture packs and mods, (this is needed.) 2nd teleport to the top left corner of the world 3rd dig down to bedrock where you went use world edit for that point 4th go to the bottom right of the world (teleport) 5th repeat step 3 after where you went, 6th click it with world edit axe 7th set TNT, 8th put a button on one of the tnt, 9th CLICK DA BUTTAN CONGRATS YOUR COMPUTER CRASHED!

They needed diamond swords and enchanted golden apples to just barely survive long enough to kill it, even then it respawns
