My personal favorite was a clause from Philippe Coutinho's transfer to Barcelona. If he ever won the Champions League while under contract there, Barca would have to pay Liverpool 5 million Euros. While Barcelona didn't win the Champions League during that period, Coutinho did so while on loan at Bayern Munich. That was during the season where Bayern beat Barca 8-2 in quarter finals. Coutinho scored 2 goals and assisted 1 during that match😂😂😂

The Ballon d'Or clause is such a risky one to have. On one hand, you get cases like Lyon actually getting a Ballon d'Or in 2022 because of them selling Benzema in 2009. On the other, you could have cases like the one with Martial, where the player ends up not fulfilling his potential

The Ballon d'Or clause has and never will be crazy! It's very plausible for a player's value to rise from the award. And in no way that a player would win the award without contributing tremendously to the team. It's just that the clause happened to be for Martial. The absurdity disappears when we think about it for the real Ballon D'Or contenders.
