I like that microtonal music doesn't just sound off anymore. Older microtonal music I've heard is just dissonant and sounds like horror movie ambience. This is a real tune that actually sounds pleasant to the listener.

i feel like people way overthink 31edo when they first experiment with it... even with 12edo, you pretty much are always focused around only 3 maybe 4 notes of the 12 the majority of the time... 31edo should be thought about the same way
just use those 3 main notes (1, 3, 5) maybe add some extra notes for some flavour to your chords... the real use of all those extra notes is all the varieties of triads you have, and how many different chord progressions you can go to... not just spamming intervals

microtonality is like seeing a new colour - I love it

It was part of western music in medieval times but then was “replaced”.
Oriental and Asian music preserved it to this day.
You should definitely listen to Oud, Baglama or Tanbur based music.

@@Phoboss32 As someone who is from Hong Kong (city in oriental asia) and formerly living next to a "funeral place" I can tell the traditional chinese music is definitely not 12edo/tet haha (I was classically trained but found this amazing channel about 1 year ago now im obsessed with match and this song)

My absolute pitch hates it (I feel like I always hear a "wtf notes are those", LOL), but my brain and my heart loves it. As always, great job. Thank you.

Thanks for your lovely comment! Maybe your perfect pitch can be won over with enough microtonal prodding ;)

mine has been now haha. Now I instinctively feel 12tet dominant 7th chords have something 'wrong' with them.

This one was on repeat when it released. Absolute favourite right here. The incredibly dense microtonal vocal harmonies are just a treat. So unbelievably incredible. Great video as well. Loved all the hexagons and the Lumatone bit. You guys never cease to blow me away!

    feels very jacob colliery
i feel like microtonality is what's missing from jacob's music. i don't mean like in moon river where he changes temperament a bunch or just intonation, i mean different temperaments and chords with non-12tet intervals

MonkeyMan, speaking of colors, you may want see my work where I how each note as a color quality, and that it’s spectral, just like a prism.
A good visual video is “How I see the color shapes when I play the piano.”

Any artist how uses microtonal choirs and instruments is on my preferred list. Especially for the higher pitches it significantly enriches the world of music. I'm still hoping for a microtonal radio station because my ears want to develop further. In some sense the more microtonal you hear the more you feel that you have been "imprisoned" by the 12-tone system for too long.
Microtonal also brings back some of my nerdy computer experiment memories when I was a teenager (1990's) creating intervals with sinusoids on the computer speaker with ever smaller ratios like 1:2 2:3 n:(n+1) etc. So in a way there is some nostalgia in it for me. Only back then I did not see how it could be used to create pleasing music.
