Inside Gaza: A Doctor's Heartbreaking Journey-Children, Women, and the Elderly in Crisis

In April 2024, Dr Siraj Sira, a GP in Sydney, went to Gaza on a UN-sanctioned mission. He was accompanied by some of his colleagues who are part of the Global Medical Foundation, Australia, which provides pro bono medical aid to disadvantaged communities across the world.
“Words cannot describe what I saw in Gaza,” he says. “Whether it was waiting to get bread in a makeshift bakery or young children crowding around large water tankers-carrying containers in their little hands-people attempting to fish in the Mediterranean Sea, it was evident that people were struggling to live. I could see a sense of helplessness in the people, with no apparent end to this crisis in sight.”
This is a first-hand account of what Dr Sira saw and most of it is unimaginable-children coming in with limbs blown off or shrapnel wounds, pregnant women giving birth by C-section without anaesthesia, a 10-year-old Zico helping in the hospital cleaning bloody gurneys or bringing in patients-just to make a difference-no food, no toilets … the list is endless.

Heartbreaking! Makes one question the very foundation of western civilisation that watches a genocide of unimaginable proportions happening before our eyes and does nothing to stop it.
