    I've had my RP for a few years now and it's been amazing. I was totally new to photography when I bought it and learned to shoot with it. I didn't know that it's not weather sealed until recently but I've abused it pretty heavily shooting in rain and snow. It's also been dropped in mud, gravel, puddles, etc, with no issues. I just have three red pixels which are easy to edit out and a scratch on the grip. The touchscreen and tap to shoot feature is my favorite. I can position my camera without having to worry about image blur from pressing the shutter button. I still haven't learned all of the features and settings. I'm sure I have many more years with this thing before I upgrade.

      That's really useful to hear, thanks for sharing this.
      What's your experience with the speed of the servo/continuous/tracking AF been like for quick moving subjects, is it fast enough to keep up?
      Not extreme pro wildlife but everyday stuff like kids, pets, people running/cycling etc.
      Many thanks

    It was my first full frame mirrorless camera. There are many better options nowadays but for some reason I still love it. The grip is perfect for me and it is so light... Video is pretty much useless but for photography is good enough.

    I love the RP so much. I don't think I've ever geled with a camera this much before.
    Today I got to try the R8, I was looking forward to certain features and a better dynamic range etc. The AF is much faster and reliable, but apart from that, actually the new features did nothing for me. Also, the menu was clunky and annoying, and I honestly couldn't tell the difference in dynamic range and IQ with the RP.
    I hate how they've replaced the nice and solid metal on/off switch with a cheap plasticky photo/video dial. That thing will break after a few months, I'm sure. The RP however is a tank. The new on/off switch also has "lock" in between, so whenever you switch the camera on or off, you get two clicks instead of one, and honestly that really puts me off for some reason haha.
    Also, I don't know if it's because the R8 is being manufactured in a rush atm and the plastic and electronics parts don't have enough time to cure before hitting the shelves, but my goodness does this camera SMELL. Like acetone, it's really strong. I got a headache after a while. The camera also started overheating just while playing around with menu settings. Erm...
    So my conclusion is: stick with / get the RP instead. It's a solid little camera with everything you need for photography (granted less so for video but still it's there and pretty decent), and most of all it's an absolute joy to use.

    • @jaytcapinpin
      @jaytcapinpin ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great point of view. However, the AF performance alone for some people who really need the quicker focusing system will benefit from it (sports, wildlife,) but other than that, yes the RP is still VERY capable. 👍🏼

    It's an excellent camera which can be used for not so experienced photographers as well as professional ones. You only have to know it's limitations, and understand what it gives you for the price. Of course there are better ones, but they will also be more expensive. I think in 2023, you can consider getting an used one for about $600 to $700. Also, I have it with the ef to rf adapter, and all my lenses are ef ones. They work flawlessly and have no issues with af or image quality.

    RP is a good camera especially for still photography. Just bought this camera as an upgrade to my canon m100. However on the fence about keeping it, as I learned it has a lower dynamic range than the m100 even though that’s 1/3rd the price and aps-c. Being the only thing I care about (alongside low light performance) it was pretty much a downgrade.
    I’m already pushing the aps-c 12.9 stops DR, so I’ll be fairing even worse with the RP at 11.9 stops.
    I summit and shoot in the same Rockies you showed in your examples. And the photo at moraine lake you showed the sky was badly blown out. Not confidence inspiring.

      That’s very interesting to hear. I’ve never looked into specific numbers for dynamic range on the RP so I haven’t compared it to a camera like the M100. Definitely learned something new.
      The shot at Moraine Lake is unfortunately overexposed in the sky, but that may have been my own fault since I didn’t properly expose for the highlights.

      If you’re looking to step into the Canon mirrorless system and want an affordable option, the RP will be great coming from the t7 rebel. It’ll offer Canon’s fantastic dual pixel autofocus that’s a big step up from the autofocus system used on the t7 rebel. You’ll also see better image quality bc of the RP’s full frame sensor compared to the t7 rebel’s APS-C sensor.

    • @ViewsofHarry
      @ViewsofHarry  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooo this will be an interesting choice, since both shares very similar features and limitations. Both have a heavily cropped 4K video, but if you’re main focus is stills it won’t matter to you. The Z5 does have dual card slot if you’re into that (I personally don’t use the 2nd slot on my R6 Mk II) and IBIS which I think is great. But the RP comes in at a lower price, has a slightly higher megapixel sensor, and I’m gonna sound like a broken record, but I’m very much biased towards that fantastic Canon colours haha. I think it’ll also depends on which system you have investments like lenses in too. Would love to hear what camera you decided to go with!

    2 main issues with Canon RP are the fact it only accepts official Canon lenses that are extremely expensive. 2nd fact is that it has way worse dynamic for stops of light than Nikon Z5 making it unable to recover much detail between bright and dark spots. Nikon Z5 can use old Nikon FX and 3rd party lenses top of Nikon Z lenses.

But shooting 60p still will allow for slow motion at 50% if you slow down to 30p (which I did a lot and still do even with my R6 Mk II) and you can slow down even more if you do 24p. It does have interval shooting mode that’s found in other Canon cameras which will allow you to create a timelapse. Despite its many limitations, it’s still an incredible beginner camera for its price on the used market rn, at least imo.
