How fun! I've never seen it done that way before. We always used crab traps that you fill with food toss overboard and haul them up on a rope by hand, on the west coast. You had to pull them up really fast or they would escape out of the trap and get away...lol! We even spilled our basket of crab in the dingy once and all of us had flip-flops or sandals on. We were dancing our feet around that bottom, like cats on a hot tin roof....lol! This brought back so many memories, and great times....thanks to you both!
When scooping with the net, I'd suggest already having the net in the water as you approach the crab, as much as possible. Crabs have very good eyes and they see the shaddow and movement of the net then the loud sudden spash will of the net causes them to let go of the bait and jump away. Crabbing is always tons of fun! Great video 👌
Wowww. Amazing. You are very lucky guy you have such a nice and cooperative wife. My wife doesn't get up to serve me breakfast where I go out for fishing. Crab fishing I have seen for the first time. Thanks and many regards.
@@777sgiles If you put them in a cooler of ice, the ice will melt and the crabs will die in the water on the bottom. A wet towel on top of your basket to keep the sun off works.
It is heartwarming to see such a lovely young couple. It seems like you are having fun together and I would imagine you enjoy simple pleasures quite often. Thanks for showing us that life is what you make it! Your wife is so lovely and I also really love the fact that swearing isn't part of your fun!! Y'all seem so wholesome and it is really nice to see these days!! I wish you both many, many years of blissful marriage.
Great job on the trot line! Before you cook the crabs there are 2 things you could do. One would be putting them in a cooler of ice water .That makes them easier to handle. Also cleaning them first makes eating them a lot better. You don't have the mustard to deal with.
Awesome job. A few tips if you’d like. Try adding a section of fine mesh in your net to block bait from getting snagged. Fowl necks are tougher than chicken necks , either can be cut in half and it helps cut down on tangles . Go get em
OMG! I love to go crabbing! When I was a kid we would go to a small oyster and mangrove island, on the inland coastal waterway in Daytona Beach! Chicken necks on the end of a string and a pole net! Back then we caught big restraunt pots full!
Brendon - You are truly the greatest outdoorsman of your era. I truly doubt that you will see this message, but I would be honored to share a tide with you some day soon.
Cute couple. Keep doing things that are exciting for both and you will last forever. Many couples, especially after retirement have hobbies away from one another and it separates the couple.
My son and I were fishing there yesterday morning; glad to see you had a good run. A few weeks ago, the Severn was full of juveniles, and people were throwing back 20 undersized for every 1 keeper. Couple of things to add: an easy way to tell females as you bring the line up - females have "painted nails" - their claws are red, while males are all blue-green. Keeping them on ice does slow them down, but don't let them drown in the meltwater. Before cooking, always cull the catch for dead crabs - move a leg or lift the apron. A dead crab can spoil in as few as 15 minutes, and will not only wreak havoc on your GI tract, but can be deadly to those with weak immune systems. Never cook a dead crab.
OMG , I was having as much of a blast watching this as you were catching them. I couldn't stop laughing and had to show my wife the catch. Making me hungry for some crabs. Going to the OBX tomorrow might have to get some crabs! Thanks for taking us all along on your trips.
Love this video. Please share where you purchased the line for bait, chain, ancor, the basket you put crabs. In short a list of items to do the same. Thanks in advance
I love you guys. Your energy is awesome and I always look forward to seeing the next video. Down on the Texas coast we have a blue crab as well. When we were kids we were shown how to put the crabs to sleep. Flip them on there back and lightly rub their belly , it puts them to sleep. It was cool as a kid , but as an adult I enjoy catching them and eating them to. Be safe my friends.
Just found your channel! That was an awesome catch. My wife grew up on the Gulf of Mexico in Mobile Bay and they used trotlines to catch crabs back in the 70's and 80's! She said your video brought back great memories!
Awesome video! You could feel your excitement when you were going through the trot line. I’ve got to get down to Guana Lake here in St Augustine and run a line.
I know I am late to the party on this video comment, but it is awesome to watch ya'll work very harmoniously. Sometimes it is hard to have that compatibility, that level of teamwork. have been married now almost 17 years, and we dated for nearly 9 years before we got married. Where she is strong, I am weak and where she is weak, I am strong. Its amazing how that works out. As to the video, I LOVE crabs and I am happy to see the video on how to catch them and also how to cook them. Keep up the great work.
Hey Skipper! I was a bit confused as to why you were checking the line so quick...then I saw the third crab come up 😮 I got up and started to cheer for more! Cool way to catch some dinner.
He awesome video, I'm also on the Chesapeake Bay and have been running a trotline since I was 13 and now I'm 35. Put your prop stick on the other side of the boat ( starboard ) side .....I'm right handed and it works well. Also dip all the crabs off the line and put them in the boat, when you are finished cull or measure the crabs away from your line so when you throw the smalls back they don't keep destroying your bait. You both have great attitudes and can't wait to see more. I ran 200 necks on 1200ft trot line last Friday evening and only caught 27 so you guys did good
I love them steamed in garlic and red pepper. Then you take the left overs, chill in fridge overnight, and put them in a pot of tomato sauce. Let it simmer for like 2 hours. Serve over pasta. Bangin.
im so jealous how you have such an amazing wife that comes iwth you fishing and is passionate about as much as you are. shit i can't even get my wife to get up early for anything :S

True...i do the same
Quick tip, if u leave blue crabs upside down they will die and not taste good. Also in between runs put a damp towel over ur basket of crabs👍
What about putting them on ice? Will they still be good?

This video was hilarious.....the ULTIMATE newbie ‼️
Congrats on the crab! You should try icing them and clean them before cooking, completely changes the taste. I enjoy them better this way.

We used them always in Maryland for crabbing, haven't tried them in Florida yet. I'm living now near the Sebastian Inlet.

I wonder how it will work In Florida! I really want to try. I just need to see if it’s legal to run a trot line
Where do you crab in Maryland?
My father in law lives like 5 min away from the inlet lol we always drive on the boat to go ocean side. Told him we need to setup traps haha
