My ps5 pro on my Sony xrb Bravia looks amazing , one thing people don’t talk about is how important the tv u running thats key. When then ps3 drop that introduced Blu-ray 1080p and when the ps4 drop now we dealing with 4khdr tv so with the 5 u gotta upgrade the tv and a high speed hdmi 2.1 thats compatible with a 8k , upgrade the whole set up
These systems really seem pointless if you don't have a 4k or higher tv\monitor. My tv and computer screen are still 1080p and I don't expect to be able to upgrade for many more years. So it makes more sense to wait for their games to come to PC and play them then on my current screen. Just all too expensive for me.
A well thought out and put together video, Vic. Personally, I think it all comes down to having a high quality 120hz VRR TV, which you so rightfully point out, and your expectations of the platform. It’s a niche option, and certainly not for everyone. In our situation, we’d planned to buy a second PS5 for the bedroom to replace our Series X. Instead of that, we bought the Pro and swapped over optical and m.2 drives, making a new main console, with the old slim as a second in another room. The main reason for the Pro was not to have to ‘grapple’ with finding a decent trade off between performance and fidelity, and generally enjoy a better experience than the base console. This experience is only going to increase with new games going forward. Having had one for a few weeks, it hasn’t disappointed. I’d also add that it’s our primary platform- no PC/Xbox/Steam Deck, only a Switch for Nintendo 1st party exclusives. For us, getting the most out of a single platform works well and cuts down on additional the expense of additional controllers, games, storage, etc.
Vic, you mentioned how you would like to have the Pro because of your reviewer job because you want to experience the best versions of the game. I would posit that those buying this console feel the same way, especially if PlayStation is where they focus their time and money.
Yeah I do like having it and I’m looking forward to playing games that really take advantage of the PS5 Pro but right now it’s hard for me to recommend it with any sort of enthusiasm. But of course I want people that have it or really want it to be over the moon with the Pro. Sony and its partners have some work to do. That’s all. (But it should have shipped with a stand, a disc drive and in a better box!)
Having an LG C1 was the only reason I even considered getting a PS5 Pro and I’m glad I did… Games look and play gorgeous! I figured I might as well get it now before those tariffs kick in.
I hooked up my pro to my 77" Samsung S90C. I loaded up Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (the first one) and it looks crazy good. The first scene when they swim to Sully's plane, you can see their faces reflected in the water, which looks amazing as well. I can't wait to try RE4 on the PSVR2.
I bought a pro and so far it rarely makes games with issues better, honestly I’m a bit let down. Doesn’t boost enough and in general doesn’t fix issues from base. It’s ok but like way too expensive for marginal gains
Also Vick, I hope all is well, my buddy and I were joking the other day and found the infamous MLB high heat 2003 review you and Tommy did. Good times and fond memories of a time gone by. You were way too kind on that one 😅
Watching u give ur review and hearing u say you’re giving it a 7.5 or took me back to electric playground in 2002 watching u and Tommy review on discovery science when I was 14 years old and waiting for Christmas to come cause I had smash melee and a GameCube waiting in the closet .
IMO games on PS5 Pro should have a option in settings to play games using PSSR or FSR. Just having PSSR isn't good because it's basically still in BETA and if the implementation isn't good in a particular game your experience is shot.
@@EPN - FSR often saves the day playing games on my Lenovo IdeaPad 3 AMD 5500U integrated graphics laptop. Using it now in Farcry 6 to increase fps to the 40-60 range instead of the 30 to 40 fps without FSR, and it looks very good. Was considering getting Stalker 2 but decided I don't dare to try running it on this laptop.
Great review of this powerful PS5 Pro system that is more powerful than the original PS5 system here! I am thankful to own a PS5. I honestly do not have plans to upgrade to the Pro. But it is good to know of what the Pro is capable of. But the price does not feel worth it
All the games he showed were years old, some decades. I can't be the only one that has zero intention of RE-playing old games on a brand new state of the art console right? I want to play NEW games that push the hardware! . Such an odd console
As someone who has finally had enough of Xbox's BS, PS5 Pro is the perfect onramp for me back over to Sony's ecosystem. Love my Pro, no regrets at all.
I love my Pro BUT agree its not essential and I too ripped my box. When that happened i was like "what the heck, you pay $700 and they cant even provide a sturdy box?"
Totally agree with your review! Especially at 1000$Can, the PS5 Pro is a powerful machine but still hard to justify... Especially with the PS5 sold at 480$CAN (Black Friday bundle). So at the end it's like 500$ more than a regular PS5. And my biggest complaint is... the PS5 Pro is sorta delivering what was promised with the current gen (PS5 and Xbox X): 4k gaming. Even the PS5 Pro is not fully 4k since it used most of the 1440p with PSSR to achieve the 60FPS. As you said, Sony missed the mark making the PS5 Pro special with maybe a cool box, a stand included... or give PS+ sub with it.
Currently, have not switched over from PS4 to PS5. Was holding out for the Pro, so I really want to eventually upgrade to this system, but damn, the Canadian price tag is daunting.
Do you have the large 120fps-cable 4K TV for it? And then does your sound system match up with the visuals? Getting something like the Pro starts the upgrade dominoes 😂
@@j.r.stewart3956 same here ! I'll take a decision closer to boxing day week ....the whole save on gst/hst might turn out to be a good thing . I'm selling my original PS4 ( with some games ) for a good amount so I'm not worried about the price difference. Now the upgrade of the would make sense, it's going to be hard to just an upgrade of the sound bar too 😭
Forget about pricing for a second, the fact that there is graphical artifacting from a wonky new AI upscaler screams growing pains. Also, if I have to go into settings and adjust them to get the benefits of the pro turns me way off. I think I'll wait for ps6 after they work out the kinks. I've never bought a pro console & I never will. I rock the launch model for 8 straight years until the next one. I get my moneys worth, that's for sure.
Like 3 or 4 games have the artifacts from the upscaler. There are like 75 games with Pro updates. People just go out of their way to nitpick the Pro right now.
am i the only one who doesn't detect the number of frames per second in games? To me somehow it never seems to make any difference. Almost every game looks as smooth.
If games like GTA 6 get a framerate boost from the Pro I'd be interested, but I'm not paying that much just for extra fidelity. I was an early adopter of the PS4 Pro and it lasted me until the PS5 Slim, but the cost is just too high now. Also the disc drive is so hard to find now that people are scalping them.
I never owned a PS4, I want to get a PS5 and I have the OLED tv to take advantage of the Pro. Should I just get the pro instead of the regular version?
@@TEAMP1ZZA As someone who owns who owns a base PS5 and has had a PS4 also, I would say buy it if you really want it and it won't break the bank and if you want to play games in higher graphical fidelity and have faster and smoother gameplay. If those last 2 things aren't a major desire for you, I wouldn't bother, personally. I'm gaming in 1080p, and sure, I have to choose between having RT at 30 FPS or playing at 60 without RT, it's still quite an enjoyable experience to me partly because most of the games I'm playing are single player games, and a lot are nearly 10 years old and are remakes or ports.
@@whisperienced you'll be dropping 2 grand just to get a pc this capable, and thats not even with a screen, mouse or keyboard. when you have to upgrade it, it will still cost 2 grand, probably even more since prices are rising. You are going to spend more money on a pc without a doubt.
I only paid $228CAD along with pre-ordering 5 other games within that $228. What I don't like is that PlayStation didn't send enough PlayStation 5 disc drive addon to Canada and hasn't sent much since. Before anyone says that you can get them from Sony Direct's website, they don't ship to P.O. boxes or to Canada. They did have one at my local GameStop but this was before Sony announced that you would need it for the PS5 Pro. I wish now that I would have traded for it now.
The pro packaging is a real let down. It might seem odd to complain, considering the other things missing, but the box feels so cheap. Packing up my old PS5 for resale, I really noticed the difference.
Unless you don't already own a PS5 I don't see the point in spending so much money on this... hell, even if you don't have a PS5 I'd recommend just buying the base system and ignoring the Pro. The amount of people that actually benefit from the Pro's features is so small and even then, I'd question your prioritizes if you felt compelled to buy a $1000 console. That's just a waste of money you can spend elsewhere, unless you're like Vic and it's your job to cover AAA games.
Well that’s your opinion. I had a PS5 fat, gave it to my 7 year old and upgraded myself to the pro on the big TV. It’s a pretty substantial upgrade especially if you have the right TV.
I already owned a PS5 and still bought the pro because I wanted a better Playstation experience than the base system gives.. and so far it is definitely worth it especially on Stella Blade and Spider-Man 2.
Yup it’s spectacular! Did some reading and weighed the decision on my own experience with the E6. Love the G4 OLED so far. You can probably find it on sale too.
I've been a bit of a graphics whore historically, but as time goes by I'm actually less focused on visual perfection and more accepting of "visually great and performs well." The GPU manufacturers (and developers...) have forced us to adopt a new way of viewing graphics where even super high end systems are not good enough to run the best games at ultra settings WITHOUT some form of supersampling (which is great but does make the image less stable than native). This tech actually makes the most sense in the console space where the consumer is less discerning you want to squeeze better graphics out of mid-range hardware, so it's nice to see Sony taking strides there. I'm wishing as an incentive to subscribe to PS+'s upper tier they allow cloud streaming in PS5 Pro quality. And I wouldn't be surprised to see in the next 10 years that to have the highest quality visuals we have the option to stream from supercomputers with a higher subscription price.
I finally plan to upgrade from ps4, perhaps this console is for me as it’s more future proofed than the original ps5 if I plan to upgrade my TV later on
@@jasonsmith530 just get the ps5 console as it is backward compatible. Be it Pro or not, you get to experience potential new games. If you have ps4 games, the dev probably use the ps5 console to enhanced the gameplay and fps. For me, I just get the normal one and my TV is close to 6 years old. I'm not wasting money on new gadgets. Im also not the one to sell my old ps4 as it's my backup to play ps4 games. I still have my NES to this day.
Unessential? If you have a TV that can take advantage of even the base PS5 the Pro is a major upgrade just for the fact of being able to play games in quality mode at 60fps vs. 30fps. That alone is worth the price of admission alone.
I own the base PS5 with the disc drive and pre-ordered the pro....I ended up cancelling my pre-order because I couldn't find a disc drive. If I went through with this purchase, I'd lose the ability to play my physical media. (both games and 4k Blu-ray) What an extreme oversight because I know I'm not the only one that would lose more than I would gain with this purchase. Don't get me started on the people who bought skins for their slim that won't transfer over.
I dont see PS5 Pro as a worthwhile investment, I'm fine with my base model. Its a waste of money imo. Now if they released the PS5 Pro as a fully customisable console kit then I would take another look at it.

That's even if I trade in my day after launch PS5! Thank you Vic! If only I had your money!
My ps5 pro on my Sony xrb Bravia looks amazing , one thing people don’t talk about is how important the tv u running thats key. When then ps3 drop that introduced Blu-ray 1080p and when the ps4 drop now we dealing with 4khdr tv so with the 5 u gotta upgrade the tv and a high speed hdmi 2.1 thats compatible with a 8k , upgrade the whole set up
I cannot justify paying $1,000 for the PS5 pro. My PS5 works just fine.
Great video Vic! Yeah I'm more concerned with how they didn't include a stand or a disc drive. But it's pretty awesome and I might get a ps5 pro
It's the most powerful console man has ever seen. Bot having to choose between blurry 60 fps and choppy 4k is a godsend.
Awesome. Thanks for being here then and now! 👊🏻
IMO games on PS5 Pro should have a option in settings to play games using PSSR or FSR. Just having PSSR isn't good because it's basically still in BETA and if the implementation isn't good in a particular game your experience is shot.
Yes I like this. FSR frame generation on Ally X and Steam Deck has been insanely cool!
But it's so bloody expensive at £699.99 which is not something that some people aren't willing to spend on since the cost of everything from rent, groceries, & others have sky rocketed over the years here! I hope you enjoy it, Victor, and I hope you got your moneys worth here! 😉 👍
Victor thanks for the review, big fan here from 20 years ago, back when the xbox 360 launched, used to look forward to coming home from school and watching games on review ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for the years of support! 👊🏻❤️
So I need to swap my TV and swap my ps5 to a pro version in order to keep up with this tech?
Ill just stick to my PC and my oled curved 49inch
Oh man, I member watching EP back in the day! Is Tommy still around?!
Every new game just looks like an old game I played 20 years ago but with sharper graphics. We need some serious creative paradigm shifts in the industry. Less follow the leader; More risk taking.
14:48 Pro cost 80% more 💰 for 15% noticeable real world performance increase on “some games”🤦♂️ ‼️Sony cash grab while beta testing pssr & ai upscaling to be fully integrated in PS6 releasing in 3-4yrs‼️
I dont have a ps5 yet. I would need to spend €420 more for the PS5 Pro (€920 with a disc reader) than the PS5 Slim (€500).
Worth it or not? 🙂
I am thankful to own a PS5. I honestly do not have plans to upgrade to the Pro. But it is good to know of what the Pro is capable of. But the price does not feel worth it
I already spent $1000 bucks last year on the Spider-Man 2 PS5 so I'm good when it comes to hardware.
@VazzVegas actually spiderman 2 is probably the best pro enhanced title so you're not good. It's more than a little better.
What's the point of the PS5 Pro?? Apide man 2 , Astrology, and FF 7 Rebirth all look and play awesomely well with my PS5 I got shortly after launch
Ps5 pro looks amazing. I'm happy with it. I would invest in upgrading your TV too, though.
For the extra cost,Sony could have thrown in a disc drive
All the games he showed were years old, some decades. I can't be the only one that has zero intention of RE-playing old games on a brand new state of the art console right? I want to play NEW games that push the hardware! . Such an odd console
As someone who has finally had enough of Xbox's BS, PS5 Pro is the perfect onramp for me back over to Sony's ecosystem. Love my Pro, no regrets at all.
I love my Pro BUT agree its not essential and I too ripped my box. When that happened i was like "what the heck, you pay $700 and they cant even provide a sturdy box?"
Oh they supply a sturdy box, it’s the slip cover that’s weak af 🤣
Yep couldn’t believe how paper thin the box was.
Now the upgrade of the would make sense, it's going to be hard to just an upgrade of the sound bar too 😭
SPIDER MAN 2, ASTROBOT AND FF7 REBIRTH ALL PLAY FINE WITH THE ORIGINAL PS5 I OWN
Forget about pricing for a second, the fact that there is graphical artifacting from a wonky new AI upscaler screams growing pains.
@@DeesBees85that's 3 or 4 too many, bud. It costs almost a grand.
am i the only one who doesn't detect the number of frames per second in games?
Great video
Im going to wait this one out
I don't really get it. At this point consoles are so expensive you might as well get a PC and slowly upgrade it.
A gaming PC this capable is going to cost a lot more than a PS5 Pro. And PC games have their own issues to contend with.
@DeesBees85 yeah but like I said you can upgrade parts slowly and improve it. PS5 you can't until they release PS5 Pro Plus and drop another grand.
@@whisperienced you'll be dropping 2 grand just to get a pc this capable, and thats not even with a screen, mouse or keyboard. when you have to upgrade it, it will still cost 2 grand, probably even more since prices are rising. You are going to spend more money on a pc without a doubt.
Switch 2 is also an Xbox?
Good luck getting a disc drive. These GD autobuy bots are nigh impossible. It sells out in literally seconds after posting.
they r at my local walmart
@@cloudair4154 not in my neck in the woods....both not online or in store
I was legit shocked that’s why it’s in the review. $1000 CDN and the box just tears like paper. Wow.
Wonder what his thoughts are on the PlayStation Portal cloud update. It's kinda a real handheld now Lol
Just started exploring the feature- I’ll have thoughts on that, and its performance paired with the Pro, soon.
Well, said, my friend!
Well that’s your opinion. I had a PS5 fat, gave it to my 7 year old and upgraded myself to the pro on the big TV. It’s a pretty substantial upgrade especially if you have the right TV.
@@Superdimensionalikr I agree
I already owned a PS5 and still bought the pro because I wanted a better Playstation experience than the base system gives.. and so far it is definitely worth it especially on Stella Blade and Spider-Man 2.
@@SuperdimensionalFacts. Seeing what the pro does in person is insane.. a TH-cam video or a still image does not do this thing justice.
Hey Victor..would you recommend getting the LG C4 OLED ? I've never owned an OLED and I've been wanting one for ps5. Any thoughts??
Yup it’s spectacular! Did some reading and weighed the decision on my own experience with the E6. Love the G4 OLED so far. You can probably find it on sale too.
@EPN cool thanks ill keep an eye on the LG c4 then
The C4 is a fantastic tv. You don’t need to spend the extra money on the G series.
@DeesBees85 cool thanks for comment I've had my eye on it waiting for a sale
@@bradzimmerman8512 it’s on it’s best sale price ever right now for Black Friday
Victor Lucas is a better game reviewer than Adam Sessler. Hands down.
Not enough of a technological leap compared to the ps4 and ps4 pro i think
Ps5 disk and no disk on sale now. $375 digital slim.
I'll get it next Christmas. I have 300 dollars worth of Amazon credit card points. Hopefully, it gets close to the amount, lol
Great tv ps5 pro combination 👌🏻 definitely a must
It really does make a difference, doesn’t it? 👊🏻
@ absolutely 💯
Upscale,Upscale, enough already, why can't we get game with native 4k @120 FPS. Should only be upscaling to 8k.
I had the same TV as Vic and I also have the Sony Bravia 9 and it looks way better light years better than the LG
Unessential? If you have a TV that can take advantage of even the base PS5 the Pro is a major upgrade just for the fact of being able to play games in quality mode at 60fps vs. 30fps. That alone is worth the price of admission alone.
Think it was a bit silly not to include the stand.
The console comes what the parts needed to sit it horizontally. All this talk about “needing” the vertical stand is ridiculous.
Omg i got that tv too the E6
I own the base PS5 with the disc drive and pre-ordered the pro....I ended up cancelling my pre-order because I couldn't find a disc drive. If I went through with this purchase, I'd lose the ability to play my physical media. (both games and 4k Blu-ray) What an extreme oversight because I know I'm not the only one that would lose more than I would gain with this purchase. Don't get me started on the people who bought skins for their slim that won't transfer over.
Hey if you see this message the PS5 Pro Disc drives are being sold on Walmart right now online. However it’s going for 150$..
So even the retailers are scalping now...gawd help me
i just got it. i have the OG. It's worth it to me.
I dont see PS5 Pro as a worthwhile investment, I'm fine with my base model.
Its a waste of money imo.
Now if they released the PS5 Pro as a fully customisable console kit then I would take another look at it.
Still loving my ps4 pro...
That jet engine 😂
Lucas 4 Lyfe 👍
Thank you! ❤️
Standard PS5 with disk drive £399.99 Amazon no brainer 👌
Even tho the ps5 pro is a powerful console. For most gamers. They could skip to next gen if they already have a current gen console. Due to price.
I was holding out on the PS5 awaiting the PS5 Pro, but now I’m not so sure.
