Tried to Save a Baby Budgie | Egg Hatching in My Hand

  • Abandoned baby Budgie and Hand feeding baby budgie. It is hard work and a process of hand-feeding baby budgies. I really don't recommend inexperienced owners! If there is no other way, like parens abandoned an egg or chick, you should hand feed to try to save little baby's life!

      This has happened to me with a few lovebirds
      Being sooo tiny and babies, the only good temperature to live on, is their mum's one
      I think s/he died because of a high or low temperature. Either of them could be
      They are soooo sensitive when they are just born 🥺
      Anyway, you did all you could and all you knew and you did it with all your good intention and heart
      I never do this anymore. If mum doesn't feed a new born, I take him out and feed him, but leave him again in the nest with mum's heat
      We always learn from the saddest experiences 🥺😭
      Sending big hug from Spain 🍀

      Thank you for your comment. I did not realize they could die from depression. I had one over 40 years ago. We were very bonded. She liked pecking at my teeth. I went on a week vacation, with my landlady watching over her. She was dead when I came back. My landlady was unhappy. I was unhappy. Maybe if I had not gone on vacation. Who knows, but maybe she was just depressed.

    Alen, you did the best you could. Sometimes these things are just out of our control no matter how hard you try.
    I have had instances where one the parents discarded a newborn chick right out of the nest box.
    It was a conventional nest box with a small entry hole, no possibility the chick fell out, it was discarded by one of the parents.
    I found the chick cold and nearly lifeless at the bottom of the cage, I put it back in the nest box and the parents did successfully raise the chick (with 4 other siblings).
    Was the chick defective genetically and the parents could sense this?, I'll never know.
    The five we had in this clutch, it was hard to identify the discarded chick, I had no way to track its health in the long run.
    Over 3 years and having 36 newborns I found they always do better when there's more than one chick.
    I think they need the warm, and perhaps the life force from its siblings, as well as their parents.
    They cluster together when they’re tiny, for warmth and assurance, (very scary seeing them all tangled in there nest box).
    The parents feed them a very special mixture of predigested food and liquid containing seed, in there crop. Newborn may require this (birdie milk) till they can eat on their own. You can see the seeds in the baby's crop as they grow and get older.
    If you wish to have them start a new family, put a nest box in there cage ahead of time (before she lays her eggs), giving the female time to explore it, ahead of time.
    When she approves, She will find it a safe new private home to raise her little ones (this take time).
    These precious little creatures we love, are so fragile, and to us sometimes quite a mystery and miracle. They bring us such joy and pleasure and unfortunately sometimes sadness. Don't feel bad, just rest assured you did the best you could. Don't beat yourself up with “I should have done this, or I should have done that” Like we say here in the US. and probably in your home “Hindsight is 20/20”

    I also had eggs in the cage from my Bourke's parakeets. They were hatched on the sofar floor of the cage. 5 days before hatching days before they were abandoned. 2 were fertilized and entered the breeder. I had to help both of them out of the egg. the first had glued the little wing to the head. I was able to solve it with warm water and a cotton swab. The second was also stuck in the egg. On the third day, it stretched its legs straight back and lay on its stomach. After a few hours it wasn't any better and I put it in the quail egg well in the incubator. So it was forced to tuck its little legs under its belly and hold its back. 3 days and everything was fine. I fed them with a special parrot spoon and Nutribird 19. Today they are 4 weeks old and they are already flying. Yesterday I've put Leo, a quiet, elderly, hand-tamed Bugie with them to show them how to open seeds. He has raised chicks himself and does his job excellently. I think in a week or two they will be ready to feed and can be integrated into the swarm. Bird parents notice when something is wrong with the eggs. That's probably why she let them down.
    I gave them the chance to live. Both would be disabled or not alive at all. if man had not intervened. Therefore, I generally advise against breeding unless you have in-depth knowledge of how to help with complications. I'm sure you don't lack experience and knowledge! The parents, the feed, the hygiene, the husbandry of the birds all determine the health of the chicks long before the first egg is laid. Even if, like you, everything is right, sometimes you just can't help anymore. I've also had sad cases where I had to watch helplessly and couldn't find an answer to the "why". It hurts, but you can't change it and you can be sure that you have done everything to prevent it. 😢

    Normally, you shouldn't remove the shell as it can be dangerous for the chick. But there is a few exceptions. The main one, if the chick is too weak to break the shell itself. That chick was too weak to break it's shell itself, but you helped it be freed from the shell. You have to be very careful when doing so, to not hurt the chick or break blood vessels, but you were also careful. I've had to do this before, and the chick lived for about a week - Due to being attacked by another budgie before I could get to it. Otherwise, it would've lived a long life. Sorry for the passing of your chick, I know how hard it is

    hi! I found a bird that was a little older than this and a problem I made was to give it too much water, if the formula is too watery it can get dioreah . the bird lived for 5 months and then sadly passed away, I don't think there's anything you could've really done though, the parents didn't help and you hadn't really done this before

    If the shell still has active blood vessels, DO NOT REMOVE IT. Only remove parts of the shell once you can be sure the vessels are dried.

    I would've left its shell, transferred it to a warm place under a light and waited for a couple of days & maybe use sterilized tweezers to remove seeds rather than so much rubbing.

    I have a female budgie who is four and a half months old, her father is three years old, can they mate?

    • @bonnieb7608
      @bonnieb7608 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Inbreeding causes a lot of problems. Your female being only four and a half months old is not ready to be breeding either.

    • @rowdyrats7035
      @rowdyrats7035 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Please don't breed, you obviously aren't educated enough to be a breeder. There are already many budgies that need homes, no need to be a backyard breeder.

    Poor bird, I'm so sorry!😔
    I'm not an expert, at all, even if I have six of them and just now they are mating (I thought they would do it later, in the spring time); anyway, I heard that hand raising them is a very hard job, and you need to be very skilled, in order to succeed.
    Again, I'm really sorry for your loss! 😕

  • @OscarChicken

    You tried your best to save it, so sorry for your loss. Never peel an egg shell before it dry enough, baby will break and come out by itself once it dried up and soak all the yolk through nerve. At this point returning egg to the mom is also bad idea, they think it ready to come out and try to peel it cause nerve damage. Best is just put it in the incubator as soon as possible before it get cold.

    I had a question....I just got my first bird on Monday. I think it's sick with some sort of respiratory infection...I don't have the money to take to a vet yet. I think I'm probably going to return it. Should I return it to the pet store where I got it (where they can care for it) or keep it and care for it as best I can?

    • @Pikmin_.

      Why do you think that what symptoms are they showing.And i believe even if you cant afford it i think it would be best to be its companion before they go to rest i doubt a pet store would try to help.

    • @torihart6402
      @torihart6402 ปีที่แล้ว

       @Tales of the MoistVerse the symptoms include tail bobbing, fluffing its self up, sneezing, scratching it's beak, sleeping a lot, not well preened and it pooped out undigested seeds 2 days ago. Hmm okay... I was hoping the pet store would know what to do and care for the bird. Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely think about it..
