- Salvation Mountain is the creation of visionary folk artist Leonard Knight. His truck broke down in the California desert near Niland, Calif. at a spot known as Slab City. He originally planned to only stay a short while and build a small religious sculpture that said, God is Love. He would end up spending the rest of his life in the spot building what came to be known as Salvation Mountain, a legendary folk art creation. This is footage I shot with Leonard in 2008 and in 1988 not long after he began work on the mountain.
Rest in piece Leonard, you are and always will be a legend. Thank you for doing Gods work❤ we love you❤
I know that guy. Leonard. I met him around the early 90s. '92 I'd say . Boy we were cranked out of our minds that guy can really party a true animal. Glad he found Jesus.
God is love Lenard is love
This is pretty crazy he left a great piece of art respects!!!
Thanks Boyd for finally getting around to editing this wonderful story of a man and his mission. You guys did a great job shooting and putting this together! Makes me wonder how many stories like this are out there that we'll never see. I personally have shot so much video for stories I have never gotten around to putting together. One of them is a one hour interview I shot of Bobby and Billy Meistrell (Founders of Body Glove). I had a mic on both of them as they told me their story from inside the wheelhouse of their boat "Disappearance". I need to dust that off and cut it! Thanks again!
I saw this dude in a documentary I watched one time. It was about these 4 or so dudes that were building these structures for one reason or another. I forget the name of the doc, but it was a good one.
