- Hey everyone! Welcome to the first devlog for my pixel art survival sandbox I'm developing using Unity. I'm Peter, I'm 15, and for the past year I've been working on my first indie game in my free time. In this video, I show off the core features of my game, and give some insight into the history of the project. I also focus a bit on the coding, giving some potentially useful tips on one method of implementing infinite procedural world generation. Hope you enjoy! 💻

@@GoldenEdits656I'm just curious, how do you guys learn that stuff? Like I'm 16 and I could do it in school but I kinda dropped out like an idiot and now I feel like I should go back?!!? How do you guys learn it? Like the coding part. I kinda know how unity works (super beginner tho) I just need to know how to code in visual studio...
@@builtdiff2 I had the same problem for soo long and I still kinda do.. like im not a pro but what I did is I bought a textbook the one one I bought was called "Learning c# by developing games in unity 2021" by packt and Ive I just downloaded the 2021 version of unity bc thats what the textbook offers and i kno wthat textbooks are boring but watching hours of tutorials that dont help in the long run is even more boring I thin, and again im not at all a pro but thats what I did
@@builtdiff2you have to follow simple tutorials first and mais something a bit different than the tutos. I’m learning c++ in visual studios but I do not know how to have something more than cmd xD

When I was 15, I couldn't even write a line in Python. And here you are, with completely functional world generation and cute graphics. Amazing, and never give up!!! 🎉🎉

@@sigmoiddevhey peter, I just wanna know, how did you learn to code? I dropped out of school like a fool and I'm 16. Do you learn in school or some tutorial or something? I'm thinking of just going back to school idk
@@builtdiff2 Well, game dev - I learned most of what I know from various TH-camrs. I began by following tutorials from people like Brackeys, and made a bunch of random projects which I gave up on after a while. So all I can say for that is practice.
Coding on the other hand, I honestly couldn't say exactly. I've always been quite interesting in coding since I was young, but I've always found it fairly intuitive. I'd say that I may have learned some stuff in school, but nowadays most things can be learned online anyway.
I am 19 year old, and now i started coding in java 😂, i am with you now because i really like your video and i also want to learn something about coding, so let's go 🎉❤❤❤
I turned 16 not too long ago. I feel like we are very similar. The difference is that you kept on doing one thing while I started jumping around when I got a little bored. It's like seeing what I could have become if I had just kept on doing game dev.
I'm not sad or jealous. Rather, I am more motivated than ever. If a 15 year old can do it, why can't I? What makes me less of a programmer than you? What makes me worse than you? Nothing. I will prove that I am cabable of growing at rapid speeds. I will prove that I am capable of doing great things.

Simply put, this game looks AMAZING. I get the vibe of a forager-minecraft-terraria-stardew valley kind of game, which seems like my own dream game. The sprites are are a perfect fit for this kind of game, and from the small amount of gameplay I am truly bamboozled ( In a good way! ) And you're 15? That's insane! Wow! Glad to find another commited game dev around my age :D, I really wish you good luck with this & balancing it with school. I remember trying to implement procgen in some of my older games, it wasn't easy, congratulations. The game looks great btw, you're a very talented pixel artist. As someone also in his game developers adventure just a little further ahead, if there's one piece of feedback I can share is make sure to identify your core game hook. In your case it sounds like the village building mechanics. I would make sure to work on those features first because that's the core gameloop hook. All the other features you build should revolve around that otherwise you risk scope creep without a core objective of the game

If your game becomes big one day. And you have some time left, try to implement option to be able to scale the UI and also make sure it doesn't strech on ultrawide monitor. I think having that in your description will open a market for people how game on ultrawide monitor or TV.

I'm trying to pick up game dev again too. I've messed with engines like Game Maker and RPG Maker on and off since I was in 4th grade, but never learned properly. Now I'm teaching myself how to code and use Unity at 25 years old. And I want to make a game similar to this eventually.
