    I love the look of your game the art style is super charming and it's good to see some OOP principles being followed.
    I would add though that despite using abstraction in your code I think you mis-interpreted abstraction a little, what you explained was inheritance and polymorphism, wherein classes containing higher order classes don't need to know about the concrete implementations of the classes and can simply refer to the generalizations of such classes without worrying about specific concrete implementations.
    Abstraction is even simpler, for example having a weather system class which allowed for changing the weather with a single function which takes a weather type enum is abstraction since the code calling those function doesn't need to know how the weather system changes the weather only that the weather is changed. No Inheritance or Polymorphism needed.
    Think of it like this:
    Abstraction: The driver doesn't need to know how pressing the acceleration pedal causes the car to accelerate, only that it does.
    Inheritance: The car is a vehicle, and thus can contain passengers, the car doesn't need to reimplement the passenger code vehicles already allow.
    Polymorphism: Depending on the type of car it can contain different numbers of passengers. Seeing the number of passengers a car allows can be done in the same way regardless of car type.
    Note: Inheritance and Polymorphism can sometimes just feel like more complex abstractions, that is often because it's hard to write any code without abstracting something, for example seeing the number of passengers a car allows is already abstracting away how the passengers are counted. But adding Polymorphism to the scenario doesn't necessarily change how they are counted, it may only change a single variable tracking the number of passengers and nothing else which wouldn't add any additional layers of abstraction.

      That's a much more straightforward explanation, thanks for the clarification. I did think at the time of uploading it that I probably used the wrong terminology as I was creating an analogy based solely on knowledge I had gained from experience with this game (which isn't really all that much on the OOP front).

    Be careful not to fall into the inheritance trap! From my experience, it's better to use composition than inheritance, cause it's much more maintainable and extendible. E.g: you need to use features of 2 different classes, but C# doesn't support multiple inheritance(and even in languages that do, such as C++ it's usually frowned upon), so you'll have to duplicate your code. But if you used composition, you just implement those features as components and provide them to your class.
    AFAIK, Unity supports components out of the box.

    • @sigmoiddev
      @sigmoiddev  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, that's certainly great advice. If it was for a large, complex system I'd definitely be better off doing it with composition, but all that I'm using it for here is a few small variations of the base objects in my world. Thanks for the tip though!

    I personally would say, singleplayer story release and add multiplayer as an update. Because perhaps if you release both, people might be done sooner than you'd like.. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    On house end you can still introduce upgrade system where building form outside view get's slightly larger or just looks larger, but interior scene can be more spacious. I'd have small feedback towards your game UI - I really like the style, but animations (when opening chest etc.) are just too slow making the game feel less responsive 🤔

    • @sigmoiddev
      @sigmoiddev  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I do take your point - I'll decrease it a bit, but I might also add the animation speed as a setting when I'm making the main menu (in case people want to reduce it even more).

    • @K0WAL
      @K0WAL 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sigmoiddev not sure if you got me right mate, I was suggesting to increase it, meaning speed it up. I believe things of that nature shouldn’t be customisable by the user, as most optimal value should work for most of the people. In this case I believe easing or beizer curve of that animation makes it feel slow, not the duration tho

    That thing with multiplayer. If you are going to do multiplayer. You better start now. Not 1-3 years down the road. I Learned that the hard way. There will be an infinitely many things that need redoing, especially for a game of this scale. Something like placing down structures will have to be almost if not entirely redone when you go to do networking and client authorization nightmare stuff. This is a tough decision you'll have to make at the start otherwise when you try to implement it later you wont because it's like remaking the entire game.

    • @sigmoiddev
      @sigmoiddev  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I have heard that from quite a few people now, and I'm sure that it most definitely will be difficult. My main line of reasoning was the way I've built my game. All of my world is built off of data - at its core, most of it is just arrays and dictionaries of integers, and not much of it is actually dynamic. I do appreciate though that it might be quite a large task, and I think I'll move it a bit closer in priority after seeing so many comments, but it still won't be coming immediately.

    So I’m not really sure about this idea
    But in the future if you wanna give your players more, “freedom,” you could have a sort of option that works as a “level builder” or “Modeling software” for buildings, furniture, etc
    It’d basically be a place or option where players could make separate things and import them into the game as placable items, they’d probably have to use templates, or something to get the style right
    I could probably see this as a late game addition :shrug:

Your first game doesn't have to be anything massive, and you can follow tutorials for new things, as long as you can learn and build up your skills as you go, and eventually you'll be able to make something independently.

      Basically, each large object has a trigger collider covering its whole area. In the player script, I run an OverlapBoxAll on that specific layer to find all objects obstructing the view of the player.
      These objects are then added to a list (provided they aren't already in the list), and I basically just fade the sprite's opacity if they are in the list. As for removing things, I just loop through every object in the list, and if they aren't still obstructing the player's view, then just fade them back to normal.

      I am hoping to release it on Steam, but it most likely won't be free. At the moment I'm planning to sell it for around £5, but I'll see closer to the time.
      As for character customisation, it would be nice, but I'll see how much effort it is (and if it's worth spending time on).

      Hi, glad you enjoyed! At the moment, I'm planning to release the game on Steam when its done, and in the mean time, I'll inform everyone of where to get any demos or betas when they come out.

    Can you make Achievement into the game

    • @sigmoiddev
      @sigmoiddev  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, I don't see why not. I'll probably add that sort of stuff towards the final release of the game though.

    How did you learn to code, I have been trying to learn c# for about 2 months now and all I have managed to do is make a movement script I feel like all Info and the tutorials I watch goes in one ear and out the other, any tips to learning ?😊

    • @sigmoiddev
      @sigmoiddev  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, I'll be releasing a video on that sometime soon, but in short - TH-cam, forum posts, and practice. When I began I also felt like I was just blindly following whatever happened, but as I watched more and more, I began to just recognize patterns in what was happening.
      After a while, I would get to feel comfortable in expanding a system with only some prior knowledge and some googling. As you said, for a movement system. I used to copy various things from different videos (like Brackeys' first person controller), but then afterwards I'd see if I could manage to add sprinting, then crouching, then double jumping or whatever using what I'd learned.

    hey man, since you're using unity, what is your opinion on the install fee policy that unity has? planning to learn game dev and use unity here.

    • @sigmoiddev
      @sigmoiddev  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it was a really scummy thing to do, but they've done their best to resolve it. It's reasonable that as a company they wanted to make money, but their proposed method was unreasonable and their initial response was unhelpful.
      Realistically though, with the leadership change and agreements they settled on, I don't think it's enough to drive everyone away completely. I still use Unity primarily because I already know it and converting my whole game would be very time-consuming, but if you're just starting out, definitely look into other solutions and see what engine would work best for you.

      I have thought about that, and I may still do so, but it's not the most important thing right now. Good suggestion though!

    Question, as you keep adding features to the game, how does your code not turn into a absolute mess

    • @sigmoiddev
      @sigmoiddev  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Trust me, it does! A lot of the stuff I wrote (especially from back when I started the project) is just so unmanageable, which is why I'm planning to rewrite the whole codebase once the demo is finished.
