Hopefully only in a couple weeks! It still takes me a long time to make them, but I hope to get faster as I learn more! I've already started working on something!
Were you able to figure out why your scenes became corrupted? This seems to be a GoDot 4.x issue because I’ve been having this issue consistently on a couple different projects. I found copy/pasting the file works but it was highly frustrating to do that so often. Im hoping there’s some simple reason it’s happening
Unfortunately I haven't found a cause or permanent cure, it seems to me that it's a problem with Godot itself, hence the fix in 4.3. It is terribly frustrating, I agree, and I only had to deal with it for a short time. I hope when 4.3 comes out officially, updating to that will resolve the issue. Best of luck to you, don't let that bug make you give up!
I also participated, but due to my ‘lack of common sense’, I didn’t submit on both itch and the discord. I made a roguelike but it was pretty buggy. Keep going bro
😂 Well I hope it at least gave you some experience to learn from! If it's your dream, I'd encourage you to also keep going! Mine was buggy too. Thanks!
Thank you! Yes, I view it as a learning experience. 4.2.2! I heard the update was supposed to help, but I guess I didn't pay attention to when it was releasing! Thanks!
@@Godot-Bro 4.3 is in beta, it also has some script changes and something about tilemaps to tileMapLayers?, something to be aware of (maybe make a copy (if you're not already in git or something) of your project before trying to open it in 4.3) Usually it's best to just pick a stable version when you start a new game and just keep it in that version, unless you have a good reason to make a version switch
@@LowkeyBack I think it's closed too, but I just mean how do you feel about your game? How was the experience for you? Hopefully a little better than mine! 😂
I gotta asked, what eat up most of your development time? I know it's bug-fixing and maybe thinking of the level design. But with the abundance of free assets and MIT open source Godot code to copy pasted from, I assumed it wouldn't take too much time. Especially since it looks like a clone of SNES Zelda game, no offense obviously. Just thought I might learn something when I develop in 2D. Since I've only been using Godot in 3D and making assets for it.
Thanks for the question! For me personally the most time consuming part depends on the project, but for this particular game jam it was definitely bug fixing followed by the coding. I didn't use copy-paste code so I had to figure it all out myself, with exception to some tutorials on like the UI. Maybe I should look more into that open source code! 😂 The level design would certainly take a lot more time in a different project where I actually had the time to worry about it being good, but for this game jam I just went for the first thing that I came up with so it wasn't very time consuming. I am new to Godot still, so learning what it can do is also a big factor, I haven't even touched 3D in Godot yet, which I am excited for. I learned a lot about tile maps and auto tiling for this project, which I highly recommend you check out if you're getting into 2D. Check out the channel Coding Quests, they just uploaded a short video on auto tiling like 12 hours ago.
Too be honest, it was a grind! I basically abandoned my wife (with her blessing) to spend all of my free time on this, including two all-nighters. Not a sustainable development method! I am not much of an artist yet, so for now I am just using free art packs.
You could make a great game developer. Please update the game i see it could do well and seems fun. Sell the game cheap pretty sure people will love it. :)

video is too good !
Thank you! I really appreciate the compliment!
Better luck next time!
Thanks! I have learned so I think next time will go more smoothly.
Thanks!
you did a lot for a game jam! not a fail at all
which version of Godot are you using? 4.3 is supposed to help that corrupted scene thing
Thank you! Yes, I view it as a learning experience.
4.2.2! I heard the update was supposed to help, but I guess I didn't pay attention to when it was releasing! Thanks!
@@Godot-Bro 4.3 is in beta, it also has some script changes and something about tilemaps to tileMapLayers?, something to be aware of (maybe make a copy (if you're not already in git or something) of your project before trying to open it in 4.3)
Usually it's best to just pick a stable version when you start a new game and just keep it in that version, unless you have a good reason to make a version switch
@@JohnnyMayHymn Ah! Makes sense. Thanks for the info!
funny thing is. I was also in that gamejam. and it was my first one as well.
Oh cool! How did it go for you?
@@Godot-Bro The results have been closed? Unless I just am looking at the wrong place.
@@LowkeyBack I think it's closed too, but I just mean how do you feel about your game? How was the experience for you? Hopefully a little better than mine! 😂
@@Godot-Bro Oh no! I do not feel good about it at all. I am editing a video about it. But yours looks so much better than mine!
@@LowkeyBack Sorry to hear that! I'll subscribe so I'll see that video when you post it!
Is it common to lose footage if you record late at night?
It has only happened the one time for me! But when you're exhausted you tend to make mistakes. 😂
The organization of the game jam was… terrible.
For a first game jam, especially solo, you did extremely well! I applaud you!
It felt a little off, but I being my only jam I didn't have anything to compare it to! Thank you very much, that is kind to say!
game looks fun though
Thanks! I tried my best!
Did you learn? If so, then you did not fail. :)
I agree with you on that! I learned a lot!
Totally agree
The level design would certainly take a lot more time in a different project where I actually had the time to worry about it being good, but for this game jam I just went for the first thing that I came up with so it wasn't very time consuming.
I am new to Godot still, so learning what it can do is also a big factor, I haven't even touched 3D in Godot yet, which I am excited for. I learned a lot about tile maps and auto tiling for this project, which I highly recommend you check out if you're getting into 2D. Check out the channel Coding Quests, they just uploaded a short video on auto tiling like 12 hours ago.
i failed five six and more
There is no failure
You're right! I didn't meet my desired outcome, but it wasn't a failure either. Thanks for watching!
You might have failed but in 10 days you did more than me in 20 lol. I mainly work on art though so I suppose that takes up the majority of my time
Too be honest, it was a grind!
Thank you so much! I have big plans! This particular game isn't meant to make money, but hopefully in the near future I'll make something better that will!
Your first jam NEVER goes well
I'm sure someone skilled enough could make a good first game! But yeah, for most of us it doesn't go as planned!
300! Sub
@@Histroyguy Thanks for being my 300th! I hope you stick around for what's to come! It'll be fun.
Good job I also started soon if you wanna make some project together let me know (giving me a comment saying it) I’m programmer I program in GDScript and C# 😄
Thank you! I'll keep you in mind for when I need some help with a project!
