Love you guys for everything you’ve done for the community and all… but I waited for over 6 months for NA/NB turbo kits to come back in stock… bought a Kraken full kit.
Sorry to hear that. We’ve shipped dozens and dozens of kits in the last six months. As soon as they come into stock, they sell. The best way to ensure you get one is to sign up for notifications and be ready to act. We’re working hard to get on top of demand and have them in stock all the time. Sorry we weren’t able to get one to you.
You guys are the pinnacle of Miata parts and performance, always finding new ways to better all miatas. I'm wondering if you ever thought about trying to convert a 1989-1995 Miata obd1 to 1996 and up, to obd2? If so, how far did you get before scrapping the project?
I'll answer this one by referencing our 1.8 swap instructions for NA6 owners. We suggest keeping all electronic parts and wiring on the NA6 chassis unless you're looking for a long, tedious project with little to no benefit. I know everyone has their reason for a certain mod but I'm not seeing a benefit on this one. What's your angle?
Note that while we have the paper to cover the two-cat 99-00 cars, we do not have the hardware at this time. Currently we only have kits for the single cat “federal” cars. We did touch on that a bit during the video.
@@FlyinMiataVideoso does that mean we still get the exemption/car wont run properly? Sorry im a little confused as I have a 99' with the large precat in the header (CA specd) does this mean I cant use the kit in CA???
@Mike-Home-Cook The turbo kit would still bolt up and function normally to an engine with an overbore, yes. However, if you're increasing the compression ratio, that could affect the safety of your engine. The Voodoo box isn't capable of pulling ignition timing, so it wouldn't be able to compensate enough to prevent detonation.
I got my kit last week and looking forward to getting it in and running. I'm sure this question has be asked and answered in the past, but in doing a quick search, i can't find the answer. After the parts have been removed, replaced and added, what it the net weight gain of adding the turbo kit? I have a 2001. Thank you
Awesome video. I was able to get my hands on a used NB turbo kit which I'm going to take everything apart and clean it up. Any recommendations on what to look for and/or what should be upgraded prior to reinstalling it on a different car? Im sure Im going to have to replace some parts but wonder if there is anything specific to look for.
Since there have been a lot of evolutionary changes over the decades, it’s probably easiest to contact our customer service team directly with details.
@@andygarcia2813 In short, make sure you have Inconel studs at the turbo to manifold, all mating surfaces are flat (manifold to turbo, turbo to outlet, outlet to upper downpipe), and the turbo is in good shape. We can get into the details when you call or email us.
@FlyinMiataVideo Thanks. I actually spoke to Nick from your team on the phone and he mentioned those same things and some other things to look out for. He was a great help.
We tested a lot of turbos when we first developed this kit, a long time ago, and haven't found a good reason to change the turbo yet. It has quick spool up and enough headroom for folks that want to run another engine management system. How would it simplify the install?
In the video you mentioned fuel economy may actually improve slightly on the highway. What would the effect on fuel economy be daily driving around the city?
That depends on how much you use the extra power. If you stay out of boost, it won’t change noticeably. If you’re using boost, you’re making more power and you will burn more fuel.
All of our turbo kits are designed for genuine Garrett turbochargers - Garrett has always been our go-to choice for long-term reliability and power at a reasonable price. FWIW, our NA/NB and NC turbo manifolds do utilize the T2/T25 bolt pattern. Also, the turbine outlets we designed for our turbo kits utilize the standard 5-bolt Garrett turbine housing outlet bolt pattern.
Because the Big Enchilada was designed to work with factory turbo components, it's not really compatible with our complete kits. There are a few parts such as the intercooler that are shared, but the majority of the kit is different. Even the bypass valve is different as we had to match the MSM port size. The best option might be to remove your complete MSM turbo system and sell it separately. It's hard to justify that, we'll admit.
@@Unfamiliar1-rh2zr We don't have an ETA to share for that, unfortunately. We plan to bring back the individual manifold listing once we have enough inventory to fulfill both complete turbo kit orders and individual orders comfortably - it could be a few more months.
Question regarding the EGR, on a stock tune would there be any issues deleting/blocking off the EGR system? For someone with an AUDM car, pretty much every header/turbo manifold is incompatible with the EGR we got here, so just wondering if there would be any damage to the engine if this system was removed, or rather blocked off?
To keep me out of trouble, I'll answer your question referencing the US spec 1.6. which doesn't have an EGR system from the factory. Our piggyback system, the Voodoo box, doesn't calculate for the EGR system. In short, if your county, state, country, galaxy, or universe doesn't require an EGR system, the turbo kit will still work fine.
It should. Our turbo squaretop testing was on a 350 hp engine, and the squaretop didn't make any difference until the engine got above 6000 rpm. At the lower power levels here, it may not make any difference at all. It would be a good idea to use a wideband O2 to monitor air/fuel at the top end as you set your boost to make sure.
@@FlyinMiataVideo thanks for the response! From the results of your test, would you say it is favorable to install the squaretop on a dual duty miata with the turbo kit?
We only have one turbo kit option available for your NA6, and it's very reliable! However, you may or may not run into fitment issues with the downpipe on an automatic trans.
For 1999-00 cars with California emissions (two catalytic converters), this kit will remove the first cat and the EO will not be valid. If you have a non California emissions '99-00 in California with our turbo kit, there won't be an issue. If you don't know if you have a CA spec'd Miata, have a look at the exhaust manifold. If it has a cat integrated into it, it's a CA spec car.
@@s197bullitt4 It would require a completely new manifold, intake, hot side intercooler piping and downpipe. Basically, anything that's connected to the turbocharger. That's a big investment for a small number of cars, which means it would be quite expensive.
So you mean to tell us that this turbo kit will develop up to 260 hp at the wheels, without touching any of the pistons, connecting rods or main bearings? What about head gaskets and selling in Europe? If I'd order from europe, I think I would be destroyed by a sea of taxation, right?
There should be no problem either way head gaskets either. We do ship to Europe. The taxes will likely be the same as if you bought locally, although there can be paperwork fees for the importation process.

Because of the way the Voodoo Box interacts with the emissions system, we cannot sell it unless it’s part of a kit with an EO. Sorry about that, but we have to work within the law. As for your transmission choice, it’s a matter of gearing. A 5 speed with a 4.1 is a good all-around match, a 6-speed with a 3.6 is more challenging to find but gives you some nice freeway legs.
@FlyinMiataVideo I have an unaltered, stock emission system. My car passed the smog in California last year. Minus the suspension mods, my car is stock. I have a second engine with your kit, and the only two things that prevent me from dropping this engine in my chassis is a need to install the elbow and voodoo box. Complainant CA parts to bring it to a legit CA state. You refuse to sell compliance parts, but you sell parts for the off-road use. Ridiculous!
@@RideShootDrink Sorry for the frustration. We do not sell parts "for off-road use", as that is not a legal category of parts or cars. The AFM conversion kit does not remove or alter any stock emissions components. The Voodoo Box does, which puts it in a different class legally and why it can only be sold as part of a complete, compliant system. It may seem ridiculous to you but it's how the law works.
