Not sure if I agree with you. Sequentials can bang through the changes really quick, but that's predominantly the engagement method rather than the shift pattern. How many people have run a strong dog-engagement H-pattern box? They seem to shift plenty quick as well, with the obvious downside that it's possible to balls it up and grab the wrong gear, of course. Discuss..........
a properly set up h pattern can shift just as fast as a sequential, the 356544 stick shift 4wd 7 sec Hondas in the States is proof of that, nevermind the 6-second stick shift class

Someones telling porkies, no way a full weight gtr with stock 5 speed gtr gearbox is going into the 9's. Maybe OS gearset. Stock will strip 3rd just with a dyno pull at that power. Awesome achievement though with a H pattern regardless.

Yep, it's essentially two manuals stuck together where the next gear is sequentially preselected and the computer controls the clutch engagement to prevent the engine from stalling when at a stop. So sequentials are functionally just one step away in that the driver has to put the clutch in at a stop instead of a computer, well and the actuation mechanism is not in the same place.
I guess a Lenco would be a manual then or dsg with paddle shifters or th400 with a manual valve body 🤦. Here in states a manual is a h pattern transmission . Once you go sequential you running with the auto cars. H pattern adds a human aspect to the racing. You can money shift/mishift. Also not all manual cars racing are running dog boxes.

Sequential is assisted manual. The whole purpose of a sequential is to bypass all the fucking around of changing gear in a h pattern along with using a clutch.
There’s nothing assisted about a sequential transmission. It has 2 shafts with gears on, just like a H pattern. Both require your hand to change gear. Unless you have paddle shift obviously.

They definitely aren't full on automatics but comparing them to true clutch/h shift manuals isn't accurate (or fair sport) either, they're in a no man's land and should be their own category. All the need to manually lift throttle, press the clutch, actually moving a gear into place in the drivetrain, release clutch, ease into the throttle, is now automatically done with a mechanism. You do have to "manually" select the part of the powerband to stay in and use a clutch to get off the line, but after that the manual part essentially stops. There are true manuals that use a clutch to shift and have sycros and h pattern, dog boxes and ecu assisted throttle h shifts (rev matching, flat foot) which muddy things quite a bit, then there are sequentials and flappy paddles where you're just telling the transmission to shift via automation.

You're Clueless. Our 5 speed dog engagement hpattern gear boxes don't require the clutch to shift only to take off. In regards to flat shift, you can set up a strain gauge (which i dont currently run) , so the only difference is the shift pattern also there is more chance of miss shift in with a hpattern, whereas a sequential is more reliable in that sense. Bottom line is if you're a good enough driver it shouldn't matter.
