Thank you! BTW are you going to the spring Bushcraft Festival? We were there two years ago, last year didn’t work out but we hopefully plan to make it this year.
@@ADifferentKindofQuiet , I’m planning on being there in 2024. I went there on a whim last year. I was in Detroit that weekend getting a house ready to sell. Decided to go last minute to meet Dave and Brooke Whipple. I had a great time. Maybe I’ll see you there.
Nice little cabin with a simple design that will be easy to maintain. You both will be able to enjoy that cabin for many years to come. Todd from da U.P.
I’m a transplanted yooper living in Wisconsin. I was born and raised in the UP. If I were you I would think about some kind of support inside for the snow load during winter, especially if you’re close to Lake Superior. I’ve seen more than a few small cabins flatten from the snow load. Nice cabin!!!
Awesome little cabin ! You can stay warm & dry when you want to get out for a weekend :) They are small but i love my wild blueberries, Good start guys :)
They call them Huckleberries in the UP. Great in pancakes and pies. We camped there every summer as a kid and loved those daily blueberry pancakes. Nice property.
Nice place! I love the wild flowers, I always pick wild flowers at our cabin and put them in a mason jar in the middle of our table. It’s the little things 😊
Nice cabin... I have a few acres in Ky and have a cabin. I do have the luxury of electricity. It’s nice to go do some Front Porch Sittin’ and relax a little. I’m there mostly late fall and early winter for hunting but do go for overniters every once in a while to check on things and weed eat around the cabin and my shooting shacks... I am lucky enough to have someone who cuts the fields for hay and brush hog everything else. They also take care of the road for me...
Good vid. Nice place simple utility. A wall ,ounted water dispenser and a sink with a catch bucket to do dishes would be ok. Later a couple portable solar panels and a power station. All set them
True on the LP stored inside. A real no no. Get it outside. And please get some heat shields or non-combustibles around the wood stove and stove pipe. Check on the minimum clearances recommended regarding wood stove to combustibles. It seems pretty close to me. And do you have a sheet metal stove pipe jack where it goes through the wall or ceiling. There is also something called the 10/2 rule. It says that any chimney that that exits a building within 10' of the peak should be a min. of 2' above the peak, for safety and draw purposes. It would be a shame to see all the work go up in smoke.
We had just moved that wood stove from our other place, the plan is to cover that whole back corner with cement board and put up rocks from the property. Thanks for your input
Very cool! We purchased some land in tn and lived 3 years off grid in a 400 sq ft unfinished cabin with a wood burning stove. The inside and outside of your cabin was much like ours, enjoy!
My buddy has a cabin with an OSB floor like yours and he covered it in random sheets of Christmas wrapping paper, then varnished over the top of that... sounds crazy but it looks cool and seems to pretty hard wearing.
We are also off grid in the Eastern Yoop…. So wonderfully peaceful. There are no blueberries around me. But…..I know where to find em.😜 cute little cabin… great place to unplug…
Wow, what a cool cabin. I love the use of cedar. That must smell amazing in there. I grew up in the town of Cedar, MI so I am a little partial. 😆 I was curious about the snow load too but seeing other comments it sounds like you aren’t in a lake effect belt. It’s wild how much snow amounts vary from area to area up here.
Well it's too bad I hadn't come across your channel sooner. As a long resident of the Rockies and a mountain man. I would have suggested a larger tipi. If I ever get to where I can obtain a plot 40 acres-a section of land I have a dream of a four tipi structure that connects as one , but from afar looks like a small village. A 26' main room two sides of 20', and a 16' off the back/ west side Mountain man
Lots of evidence of bears and one on trail cam but we see a lot more wolves. There is a lot of cedar swamp around us for the bears to hide. Thanks for watching. 😊
I just bought 8 acres in Pinal Valley Arizona (in between Phoenix and Tucson) and I'm building a 16x26 (416 Sq Feet) cabin that started out as a car and a half garage from my house in Missouri that I took apart at the 4 corners and loaded the walls and the metal roof in the moving truck when I moved. So I have to just build the base and add 2 feet to sides and put it back together, rewire it, insulate it and put the interior walls in, My kitchen is going to be where the garage door was, I'm just going to bump that part out 3 feet put in a small window and that's where my kitchen counter and cabinets will go, I don't need a HUGE kitchen because it's just my Girlfriend and I but I want the room because were going to live there full time. Were also saving room by not having a traditional oven/range, we decided on that because we all but stopped using our stove 5 years ago when we got our 9 function Air Fryer because although not huge between the Air Fryer, Microwave, Crock Pot and Pressure Cooker there's nothing we can't cook and an oven/range just takes up valuable space in a tiny cabin, yeah we can't cook a Thanksgiving Turkey or 25 lbs ham but we don't do that now anyway, even when my Gf's daughter lived with us we always bought a smaller ham or a boneless turkey breast for the holidays meals because it was just the 3 of us and there was no sense in cooking all that food.
Very good video I really enjoyed this one but I got to ask a question is there any more of that beautiful land up there for sale if so please get ahold of me I would really be interested in buying something cheap up there thank you very much thanks for the very very good beautiful video
You have to be fast when looking for land in the U.P. and be ready to make your offer. It’s also not as cheap as it used to be. Things go quickly. If I see anything though I’ll send it your way! Thanks for watching! 😊
My family and I moved off grid in the lower peninsula in a beautiful wooded area.. the area that we move to the County and Township is very much off grid a lot of people.. right now I am in an RV but I love your simple build I could do it myself even at 60 but believe it or not I'm stumped about one thing and I have an old stove that I traded for an old dryer and I'm not sure how to hook it up safely and I see that you have one is there any chance you could help me figure this out.. I want to put it in my outdoor kitchen for my canning kitchen..please your advice would help me so much..
Without looking at it that would be hard to tell. First thing to make sure is that the stove is set up for LP gas, then you should be able to buy the hose and regulator from your local hardware store
@@ADifferentKindofQuiet yes it's definitely propane his whole house was propane.. he took the connection out of the back of the stove it's an older magic chef no electric to it I did find out that it was a half inch so I bought a 1/2 inch OD fittings 1/2" FIP with a 1/2" MIP and tapped 3/8 " Fip the 1/2 inch fits ..it's from there I'm not sure what to buy.. I know the yellow gas tube hosing the metal ones won't fit on a propane tank and I wasn't sure if the rubber ones would from like a Mr Buddy extension hose would?
The propane bottle in the house can kill you. You should put it outside and run the line through the wall You can’t smell the fumes but they will cause you pass out and never wake up. Beautiful location for the mini house 🏡👍🇺🇸
This 18.6 m2 cabin is as basic as it gets, but in my humble opinion adding 10cm of styrofoam insulation to the ceiling, floor and walls wouldn't definitely hurt .. it won't cost a fortune, but would greatly improve your quality of life especially in cold weather .. basically make the cabin enjoyable all year round 😉
I definitely agree and we have plans to finish the ceiling, but we currently have no way to access it in the winter. Thank you for the comment and for watching
Nice outpost! I just started a channel too. I subscribed to yours! It will be super toasty when the wood stove is hooked up. I believe I would insult it in the future!
We’ve talked about insulting it and how we will finish the walls if we do while maintaining the great cedar smell. 😀 Thanks for subscribing! What is your channel?
I'm thinking this is a sign🤔 lol...I've rented a home for 10 yrs, they are now selling and I need to move out very soon. However, I refuse to get rid of my cat and dog, my cat is 13 and my dog is 5. I thought the same thing. That roof doesn't have nearly enough pitch for the winter snow load.
Not close to Superior, that’s why I went with posts 5ft OC and full 2x8 rafters on the 10ft span
That is my dream. My mantra is “1 acre of Texas and a tiny house.” Working toward that goal. Thanks for showing your outpost, so peaceful 🙏
Keeping working for that goal! Thanks for watching.
Now a days Texas is being taken over by Commiefornia transplant, now a days it should be "1 acre of New Mexico/Arizona and a tiny house".
Just amazing love what you have done beautiful ❤️

Those small UP blueberries have so much flavor. Grew up in the UP and loved going out to get blueberries.
They sure do!
I like it, you got yourselves a sweet getaway to decompress & enjoy. Btw it looks ready for a small solar system for some 12v lights & fans. Cheers 😊

If watched video would’ve heard her say that the stove isn’t even installed and if looking closely you can tell that the pipe doesn’t go thru wall
