I use a small 10" X 10" tarp since I don't have any spare screening rolls. I then just toss the clippings into the woods since I live on 20 acres of woodland. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Unless you use a hedge trimmers daily and year round, the batteries will lose performance significantly every year. Cordless is not a good occasional use Homeowner gardening tool. Why they still sell corded electric.
Your tip is definitely a time saver! I don't have a screen, but I use an old tarp instead. Its so nice to see homeowners taking care of their property! I have a female neighbor who hasn't mowed her lawn in 2 months and it looks awful. When I spoke to her, she said she don't care. I care because it makes my property look bad, so I've been mowing and trimming her lawn ever since. I don't get paid for doing it, but I enjoy being outdoors and doing this sort of stuff.
Love your tip and others in the comments! I'm a female 1st time home buyer & take pride in keeping my lawn looking great! However, my neighbor has 5ft of grass in the backyard like he's trying to grow a corn field 😮. I'm thinking of buying a fence so it's not an eye sore! I want to cut it so bad but don't want to get in any sort of Fued!!
I have a hedge that is right next to the house so its difficult to get access to put anything down to catch the leaves/clippings. Any advice in this instance?
We have garden waste bins that the local authority collect for composting. My problem is that I have flower beds at the base of my hedges, I've tried your method previously and the flowers etc just get crushed. I'm thinking of a 4'x6' raised wooden frame to catch the clippings. I like your mesh idea which would make my frame lighter than using solid ply/MDF. Thanks for the video.
I'm searching your channel for help with backyard sprinklers...repairing broken heads and turning the water supply off to just the back yard. Do you have anything along these lines?
Do you leave the leaves you cut from the top of the hedge on top of the hedge? (Haven't trimmed hedges in years. Trying to figure out the most efficient way to do it.)
@@jeffostroff I know what you mean Jeff by reaching the back of the hedge. When I do mine, my hedges are too deep for me to get to, so I have to go inside the home, open the 4 windows, remove the screen, and with my upper body outside the window, I'm able to use my trimmer to trim 3 inches away from the house. I have to repaint the exterior of my home in a couple weeks and when I go to paint that section, the step ladder legs are not wide enough to clear the hedge, even after roping the hedge in a bundle. I might have to rent some scaffolding to clear the 5 feet from the ground and use the platform to paint atop that area
Honda HRX2173HZA it's about an $800 mower, it has electronic ignition star, awesome. You can also pull the cord to start. It was their top of the line self propelled when I bought it, too pricey for stores, I ordered it from Home Depot's web site, paid for it all with points on my credit card, so it cost me nothing in terms of capital outlay.
That's ok, the leaves will turn brown in a couple weeks and blend right in. There, problem solved. Follow me for more time and energy saving gardening hacks.
A tip is advice, a hack is a suggestion for repurposing something, thinking outside the box. A tip for keeping your car seats clean is to use seat covers, a hack is to use garbage bags. But whether yours was a tip or hack...this vid was awesome 😎

That's a great idea! Thanks William!
I Have accidentally cut off my share of cords. Nice to see a man handy with his CORDLESS trimmer.
Yes, I had ruined 2 cords over the years with my old lame Black & Decker corded trimmer.

Glad it was helpful! We have a neighbor across the street same thing back yard faces us and it's 2 feet deep grass.

How often do you reapply mulch?
Where do you get the screen? What size do you get and is there a certain guage?
I just buy it by the roll at home depot

working on some in a week or 2
@@jeffostroff notification on! 😉
Great job and good idea
Thank you Anthony!
I bought a DeWalt hedge trimmer kit a few years ago because I was tired of trimming the electric extension cord along with the hedges.
I bit through a few extension cords over the years with by old electric Black and Decker

You need that dewalt pole hedger
Doe sit bend 90 degrees to reach the back of the hedge?

@@mikea3552 Sounds like we need drone hedge clippers
Great tips! What type screen do I buy at Home Depot?
I just bought a regular roll of 50 foot long screen 3 feet wide
What lawnmower do you use jeff?

Really very good...idea...
Thanks a lot
What brand & model of landscaping screen did you use? Or maybe just how wide it is? Thanks!
I think it was 36"
What kind of hedges are those?
This is a Surinam Cherry Hedge
Fantastic method! Thanks
Good idea
Jeff, I cut the cord like you said. Now my corded trimmer doesn’t work now. What do I do now ?
Try CPR lol
@@jeffostroff, is that the real Booger McFarland? It almost seems too random to be a fake account.
I usually put a tarp down. Then just drag it out
Great minds think alike!
This is the way.
You know it!
I was hoping this would be a hack for round bushes, lol. Thanks anyway!
I do the same on my globe shaped bush
Good...!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice jod
Thanks Den!

Try buying a pair of goats. No need to trim hedges anymore. And, autocomposting.
Yes, that would be cool.
Did this today after years of raking. WTH was I doing.

What would you call it and why not hack?

Okay! Thanks for the clarification.
@ jeffostroff,
I apologize to you for being wrong.
Great hack. Horrible music.
