For any Mac users having issues: 1. Make sure you have the latest OS downloaded on your system. Initially I could not get it to work with High Sierra, but it works with Catalina. 2. As @Ngawang Yoga said, "you should first connect the splitter with external mic other than rode wireless and than remove the external mic and put back the wireless go. it works 100 percent. but you will need external mic or lav" THIS tip literally saved me! Thank you Ngawang! At first, the Rode still wasn't working with Catalina. After getting it to recognize another external mic and switching it over to the Rode, it worked perfectly!

Hello and thankyou. I use an external speaker via a mixer and laptop. I use an analogue microphone at moment and would like to know if Rode wireless is compatible to use with external speakers?
Just wondering what volume setting you used on the Wireless Go receiver for this recording. I notice with mine that there is a background hissing noise but there are no other appliances on in the house.

However, I would say that you'd probably need an app on your laptop that supports dual audio input from 2 microphones (I don't know any at the top of my head unfortunately). I hope that helps?

@Joanna Higlett The laptop/zoom needs to see headphones attached or some kind of audio output. If you plug in a trrs to trs cable straight into the laptop zoom wont know/see any possible audio out. That's the reason you need a splitter/adaptor like in the video shown here.

Thanks Leslie. I have to use a splitter because the 3.5mm port is used for headphones only, as the microphone input is built into the body, so there would be no other way for me to get a Mic input into the laptop, unless I had a splitter. The reason this method might not work with Macbook Air is because you have USB-A ports, and USB is reserved to allow for Microphone inputs. Hope that makes sense?

You're welcome! If the mic is actually connected successfully to your laptop, then you should be able to switch the mic to the Rode Go in the Zoom settings. Does it appear there?
Really looking into the rode wireless as every time I screen record with my MacBook my computer overheats and the audio picks it up I even tried using AirPod pros and have the noise cancellation on but it still comes through Now if I use the rode by itself how do I get the audio from the rode onto my MacBook ?
Hello, and thank you for your video. I’m looking for an alternative to having to use a hand-held microphone when giving lectures! If I connected the audio output of the Wireless Go into the audio input of my PC, would I then be able to play the audio through the computer speaker system in a live setting? Thanks in advance
Hello - I haven't tested this scenario yet, but I will be working on getting a video tutorial up and running for this situation, very soon! But from my knowledge, as long as the input is correctly detected by the Wireless Go, and the Audio Output is set to your Speakers, then I see why not!
Hi Trending Reviews, just saw your video. Many thanks and it is very helpful and interesting. Just one question: a) For the splitter jack, can you connect a speaker jack to the headset jack port on the splitter and achieve a speaker audio output? Thank you in advance.
I can't connect it to my laptop (windows 10) even with the splitter, ive been searching audio input in my laptop but there isn't any external mic. Some other video said that we should use trrs connector, but you still use trs connector and it's working. Did you use any sound card or software for that wireless mic?
No software needed for this method - its a direct connection. Some windows laptops have a TRRS Jack input, which means you will need to get that TRRS connector for it I'm afraid.
I have a Dell G5 and Windows 10. When I plug in the GoPro red cable to the laptop and the question box pops up, I have to select "LINE IN" for the GoPro to show up in settings. If I select "MIC IN" (the default) it does not work. Just thought I'd throw this out there for anyone with this issue.
Hi! Thank you for this video, was about to purchase the wireless go and was wondering about the same thing, so i have a Macbook pro 2017 model running Mojave, will this work for me? TIA
Hi. Its a general smartphone tripod, my specific one is this: geni.us/viCRh But I recommend buying a cold-shoe mount adapter to slot the Wireless go on top as well: geni.us/o3ojG
Great tutorial, thank you so much! I would like to use it for Zoom Meetings. (I've got the same adapter cable as shown here.) The microphone works amazing but I can't hear the others. Do you have any idea how to fix that? 🙏
Thank you! Yes, the reason you might not be able to hear other people is because you have the splitter cable inserted into the headphone jack, so the laptop thinks an external set of headphones is connected and is trying to play through that cable. So 2 options: 1. Stick some headphones into the headphone jack of the splitter cable and listen through there 2. Try to change in the laptop's Sound settings, for Output sound to be through Internal Speakers. Hope this helps!
Hi there, thank you for this video. Everything went well except that when I plug my mic into my computer it doesn't appear into the output in my setting. Do you have any idea why ?
Thanks for your video. I've followed the instructions but my Mac doesn't recognise the set up as an external microphone (it only recognises it as 'headphones' & 'headphones port'. I have Macbook Air 2017 however so I'm not sure if that's the problem as your video as with a Pro. I've also tried purchasing the Rode SC3 cable as well as a splitter like you demonstrated in your video but neither work. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!
I followed your instructions and am using MacBook Pro. For some reason when I plug in the adapter there is no recognition in the Sound settings of registering an external microphone. Any suggestions?
hi. thanks for the tutorial. i bought a hama splitter cable (pink and green male) and there is no sign on it for headphone and microphone. i figured the green is the headphone, because when i plug in the headphones to the pink one it works very poorly, and in the green its good quality sound. Then it would be obvious to use the pink for mic, but when plugged in and switched on, my mac does not detect the mic in audio settings. Is my cable not the right one to use i wonder?
I think that might be the case. My sister bought a different splitter cable for her Macbook and it didn't work - but when I gave her my one that I used in this video, it worked for her. So maybe check if the one I have would work for you too? (Link in description)
i wish I'd watched this a few days ago! I was told when I bought my Rode Wireless Go Mic that I'd need a USBC to headphone jack converter. I set it all up today - didn't work. I then did some more research and saw a video saying I need at TRS to TRRS microphone cable. So I've ordered one but then saw this video so have ordered the splitter adapter for the headphone socket too. I have an event in a couple of days and need this to work so hoping between these two cables it will. I'm really surprised there isn't more info available from Rode about it. I assumed I would be able to go in with USBC like i can with my Rode Video Mic but now I know the USBC is just for charging! This is all very confusing for a non-audio person - I just want it to work!! I'm using it for live streaming events via Zoom Webenairs
@@TrendingReviews the RØDE SC7 worked perfectly so I'll probably send all the various splitters back! Thanks though for taking the time to do this review. Still think Rode need to make it clear that you can't plug the receiver into a laptop!
Great tutorial. We have the RODE SC3 3.5mm TRRS to TRS adaptor for smartLav, will that do the same thing? Unfortunately the "external microphone" isn't being picked up in the system preferences (on our macbook pro). Wondering if that's the adaptor or if it's an issue with the operating system (MacOS Mojave is the most up to date we can get on this macbook)
Thanks! I haven't actually used the SC3 Adapter cable, but considering it is primarily made for cameras and audio recorders, I don't think it allows the Macbook to distribute a microphone input on its own. Its not a problem with the OS, but 95% sure its the adapter. The Macbook would need to 'Split' the headphone and microphone input at the same time, something that the SC3 cable cannot do. Hope that helps.
Like your video which is simple and straightforward. Your video shows a SC Cable which is black colour on both ends. Do I need to get a SC7 cable (one end is grey and one end black) to connect to Macbook? Thanks.
This was so helpful thank you! Another question though... I use this to teach yoga classes via Zoom. Sometimes a student will want to say something, but the output audio goes to "headphones." There is not an option in the "sound" section for the audio to come out from another source. Is there a way to fix this? Or am I missing something? Thank you!
Thanks for the comment! In your Settings > Sound > Output, do you not see Macbook Speakers as an option for output? You could connect a bluetooth speaker as well and select that from the sound output source list.

So weird, I'm on a macbook pro and it's not appearing as an External Mic using this setup. Did it just appear on the Sound preferences automatically from the beginning or did you have to install it somehow?
It just appeared automatically in the settings - I didn't do anything else. Out of curiosity, which MBP Model do you have? The one with traditional USB-2.0 ports?
@@TrendingReviews Hm interesting...Yes I do, a 2015 MBP. I work in music production and I have a lot of audio interfaces installed on my computer, plus soundflower and a few things for livestreaming. Yes - the splitter is not specifically for allowing a laptop to connect to your mic, but its to distribute the headphone input/output to a separate microphone input.

@@petr.mojevize You can use the original Rode cable that comes with the wireless go - but other than that, I'm not too sure why it would be causing a problem. My best guess is because you have traditional USB ports on your Macbook, the laptop is dedicating the microphone input only via those ports - so as a result - you can try one more thing - which is to get a USB splitter instead of headphone port splitter. You're welcome! If the mic is actually connected successfully to your laptop, then you should be able to switch the mic to the Rode Go in the Zoom settings. Does it appear there?
Hello. My laptop has a mic input, so I used the original cable who comes with the Rode Wireless Go to connect, and it worked fine. Is that safe?
Super vclear! Really useful. Grazie, Grazie! Vittorio.
Really looking into the rode wireless as every time I screen record with my MacBook my computer overheats and the audio picks it up I even tried using AirPod pros and have the noise cancellation on but it still comes through
Now if I use the rode by itself how do I get the audio from the rode onto my MacBook ?
Fantastic info here, thanks a lot for sharing! Creating a video with voice-over now, so this is great!
@@TrendingReviews Thanks for your reply, it's much appreciated
Thanks for your feedback!
Hi! Thank you for this video, was about to purchase the wireless go and was wondering about the same thing, so i have a Macbook pro 2017 model running Mojave, will this work for me? TIA
Yep - the video your watching is also a 2017 Macbook Pro!
Trending Reviews Ahh okay😊! Thank you so much for replying 😊🙏
Good stuff. Just fixed my problem lol
Good to hear!
Helpful thanks ordered via link!
What is your tripod where you can attach the Wireless Go ? Thanks
Hi. Its a general smartphone tripod, my specific one is this: geni.us/viCRh
But I recommend buying a cold-shoe mount adapter to slot the Wireless go on top as well: geni.us/o3ojG
So 2 options:
1. Stick some headphones into the headphone jack of the splitter cable and listen through there
2. Try to change in the laptop's Sound settings, for Output sound to be through Internal Speakers.
Hope this helps!
Very similar question, but can I use a wiress headphone or does it need to be plugged in?
Punita Kumar I would say the same applies select the Bluetooth as the output mode for the audio
Hi there, thank you for this video. Everything went well except that when I plug my mic into my computer it doesn't appear into the output in my setting. Do you have any idea why ?
Hi. Which Macbook version do you have?
@@TrendingReviews Thank you for your reply. I have a MacBook Air from 2016.
@@leabenoit6767 Here is a solution for macbook air:

Thanks for your video. I've followed the instructions but my Mac doesn't recognise the set up as an external microphone (it only recognises it as 'headphones' & 'headphones port'. I have Macbook Air 2017 however so I'm not sure if that's the problem as your video as with a Pro. I've also tried purchasing the Rode SC3 cable as well as a splitter like you demonstrated in your video but neither work. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!
I just purchased the splitter, my Mac is from 2017. I got the same issue. It is not being detected
Useful, thank you
I followed your instructions and am using MacBook Pro. For some reason when I plug in the adapter there is no recognition in the Sound settings of registering an external microphone. Any suggestions?
Very useful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
hi. thanks for the tutorial. i bought a hama splitter cable (pink and green male) and there is no sign on it for headphone and microphone. i figured the green is the headphone, because when i plug in the headphones to the pink one it works very poorly, and in the green its good quality sound.
Trending Reviews thanks a lot. In the meantime i bought a new one and it works! Thanks for the video again.
Would this work if I was doing a live stream like using my camera as a webcam?
Yep - just have to change your mic settings to use the Rode Go in whatever live stream app you use.
Trending Reviews awesome thank you! Just got my splitter so I’ll be giving it a go
i wish I'd watched this a few days ago!
Good luck and let me know if the splitter cable worked for you?
@@TrendingReviews Thank you for your response. Much appreciated!
it didnt work for me. I bought the recommended cabel. What else can I try?
Why did it not work? What kind of laptop do you use?
I have the same issue with a macbook air. I plug everything in a my laptop doesn't recognise it.
Like your video which is simple and straightforward. Your video shows a SC Cable which is black colour on both ends. Do I need to get a SC7 cable (one end is grey and one end black) to connect to Macbook? Thanks.
No SC7 cable required - the standard cable of the Rode Wireless Go will work just fine :)
@@TrendingReviews Thank you very much.
@@TrendingReviews the cable that came with RODE did not work in my case.. with MacAir. :( I will try SC7.
Thank you. Just what I was looking for. Very clear instructions
Glad it helped!
hello what program do you use to record your voice with Rode Wireless Go
Hi. I use an app called Voice Recorder: apps.apple.com/us/app/voice-recorder-recording-app/id731368203
Thanks for the video. But my macbook pro, which I bought in 2015, doesn’t seem to switch over to the external mic source. What should I do?
Does your Macbook Pro have traditional USB Ports?
@@TrendingReviews yes, my MCP has a traditional USB Ports. What should I use to connect the wireless GO? Thanks.
I use the Rode Cable SC7 that fixes the problem and you can use the headphone jack
how you solved this issue. I also have the same issue with Macbook 2014. Thanks
@@TrendingReviews I have the same issue with a 2013 macbook air, i'd love to know :)
How can I use this in my live streaming via a smartphone, laptop, interface and a mixer? I'm trying to eliminate any outside sound from the congregation from my live feed. Please help me a step by step on how to connect everything together if possible
I don't know if that could produce an incompatibility. I ordered the rode sc7 cable that others are using with this mic so let's see
What app do You use to make an audio recording?
Its called Voice Recorder on the Mac App Store.
Hi, i got the wire as recommended, but when i plugin, my MacBook Pro doesn't detect at all as external microphone
Which Macbook Pro model do you have out of curiosity? Is it the one that still has the traditional USB-2.0 ports?
@@TrendingReviews Hi, Thanks for reply, my macbook pro is early 2015 series, USB is 3.0
What if this already has the trrs cable? Do I still need that splitter?
Yes - the splitter is not specifically for allowing a laptop to connect to your mic, but its to distribute the headphone input/output to a separate microphone input.
Hi, I am connecting the 'wireless go' via mic cable to the earphone jack port in my laptop. However, I can't find it in the sound input. I have tried to add a device via wireless but it doesn't show up. please advise
Which laptop do you have?
@@TrendingReviews Lenovo e580. I have found a female mic jack so I have connected it to my laptop jack port. Then the SC7 to it and the wireless go receiver. I can record yes but for whatever reason it doesn’t recognise it as an external mic it shows as the same built in mic of my laptop. I think the best way will be usb mic adapter, isn’t it?
I have a 2019 Macbook pro, will any splitter with 3 rings (and two output, the audio and mic female) work? I used your link to go to Amazon and it didn't go to any specific product. Just a list of splitters. please advise
Which country are you clicking the link from? The link redirects to the exact product if its available in your country's Amazon listings, otherwise if not, it shows results for similar items. But nonetheless, it should work for a similar splitter as well.
@@TrendingReviews Hey thanks for replying! So I went through the similar products and several in the reviewers comments noted that the splitter wouldn't work with a Macbook, but - - I just kept looking and did find an adapter that I believe with do the same thing you are doing. Thank you for your helpful video. It really explained to me what I was doing wrong - I can honestly say, would not have figured it out on my own.
I'm really glad I could help, even at least just guiding you to another solution :)
Hi! I bought the adapter from your link. The thing is, my earbuds work, however rode wireless go is not showing as the external microphone in the sounds settings. What should I do, please? I bought it, but it is not working as you showed.
Hi Petr. Which Macbook do you have?
@@TrendingReviews hello sir, Macbook Air 2017
OK - It should still work - do you have the right Rode cable into the transmitter and the right end into the microphone port of the splitter?
@@TrendingReviews Hello, sir, yes, I have the original rode cable from the wireless go + the transmitter. Exactly the same things. But it does not work, earbuds are showing, microphone isnt. I will give it one more try by buying rode SC7 cable and try it with the transmitter. If that does not work, then I am returning the transmitter.
This one: geni.us/Z25f25r
Where did you get your tripod? Can share?
Yep: geni.us/viCRh
Thanks a lot!👏
Hope it works in very noisy places I live in tokyo and here when I do outdoor recording I struggle with Audio alot
It works great outdoors too! You should be fine :)
How did you insert the try port ?
I love this review. . I will buy Rode Go Mic today thank you for sharing. I use AKA LYRA on my computer (love it ) but I will return it because I also want to use a Mic when I am outside the house. (on the go)
Which brand is the tripod you use here?
Its this one: geni.us/umgi2l - Best Smartphone Tripod I've had in years!
Hi! I’ve got the same adapter cable, but it doesn’t work. I have a laptop (Lenovo). Do you have any suggestions? It looks like it doesn’t recognize the microphone with this adapter cable either . Thanks!
Hi! Have you tried going into Control Panel and find the default microphone, and see if there is an option to change it to External Microphone?
@@TrendingReviews Yes, I´ve tried that, and it doesn´t work. I think it´s not going to work with this cable adapter. I contacted RODE yesterday and they say that some laptop may not support an external mic function. They recommend using an external interface like the AI-1. But it´s too expensive
@@marcolongoyoga Ah OK sorry to hear that! I guess its a Lenovo thing then. Quite strange for laptops nowadays to not support external mic's in my opinion!
I read somewhere that there isn't a standard regarding the TRRS connectors so it the Lenovo may be in a different order than other devices.
The other option I can suggest is get a male TRRS to female TRS adaptor and see if that makes any difference.
Is there a delay between the audio and visual when you connect Rode wireless to laptop with the splitter?
Nope - seems pretty instant to me!
I've done exactly the same as you using the exact same adapter and microphone and my MacBook doesn't recognise the microphone. It doesn't appear in my sound settings. What can I do?
