Great video! I was looking for a video showing how to attach a lav mic to a shirt, but the whole content was great. I use a set of Rode Wireless Go and Rode VideoMic Pro Plus both into the camera through a stereo splitter so I have two tracks to combine in post. Sometimes one track from the lav mic sounds a bit dry.

I've just received a SmartLav+ as my first lav mic, and I thought I was going to break something trying to mount it onto the clip. I couldn't have guessed that the windshield came off like this, fortunately you were here to help. I've used a NT-USB for 7 years and been overly satisfied with it, with many compliments on my audio quality. The SmartLav+ is very promising too. I'm for sure thinking Rode first if I need another microphone.

I love the R0de Go but the output levels are too high for my camcorder and when I use it with the Lavalier Go mic the output sounds very nasal, no matter where the placement is :-( The inbuilt R0de Go mic is way better than the lav, which is disappointing since the R0de Lav was *not* cheap!

    • @twhitedeath5885

You can easily fix nasal vocals by using an Eq. Nasal frequency can range from around 1KHz to 2.5KHz (especially 2KHz to 2.5KHz). Now you can mess around with any EQ and reduce those frequencies. Listen closely as you reduce those and try not to overdo it as those frequencies generally contain most vowels. Reducing any kind of frequencies may result in an increase of others, so please be a little careful. Hope that helps!

@@ApplePi31415 I know... but the R0de lav mic is not cheap, I expected the performance to be aligned to the price-point but there are much cheaper lavs that work much better I'm afraid. The bare R0de Go mic sounds much, much better than the lav running through the Go system. Based on my own experiences I would not recommend the R0de lav mic I'm afraid. I have other R0de mics that work great -- just not this one.

I love the sound from rode lavalier mics but the cables suck.
I've had two smartlav+ that have static when the cable is touched, because the wires inside are damaged.
And my more expensive lav with the micon connectors suffered the same issue. At least that cable can be replaced, if you're willing to spend $50 for a wire.

Another tip, you can team a smartLav+, and two mobile phones for really high production quality value phone videos. One phone on a gimbal or tripod to record video and an ambient audio reference track, while the talent's voice is recorded via smartLav+ onto a phone in their pocket using either the camera app or even a dedicated sound recording app for higher quality audio files.
I've also used this to make a discreet audio recording device while I've shot the corresponding video hand holding my drone. I think personally it makes the smartLav+ a better choice no matter what you're recording video on.

Your SC1 cable needs to have some recoiling system or something it constantly gets tangled and becomes a mess. Should have something that retracts it into a little case or something would be way better. Consider this for an update please! 😊
