After two years in power, what have the Taliban achieved in Afghanistan? | DW News

  • It's now been two years since the Taliban retook power in Afghanistan. Tens of thousands of people fled the country at the time, fearful the takeover would mean a return to the harsh Islamist policies of the past.
Taliban leaders have avoided making clear statements on many issues since then. But now -- two years on -- the world has a much clearer idea of what Afghanistan under a new Taliban regime looks like.

The only currently successful organization that promotes democratization is the EU.
It's a combination of the effect of having a successful democratic neighbor, which causes democratization, and economic incentives to democratize and reform the economy and law structures to get more access to the EU.
As countries synchronize their laws with the EU, they also gain more access to the market, as such a small business that could only sell to 100 customers inside their country, can suddenly reach thousands of customers, turning a hobby into an actual viable business.

Before Pakistan was created the Indus Valley was a strategic region and launchpad for the British Empire 200 years ago for conducting the Anglo-Afghan wars. This began with the overthrow of King Dost Khan of Afghanistan to prevent him forming diplomatic relations with the Czar of Russia. The Great Game. Britain created Pakistan to continue Ghazwa-e-Rus. U2 pilot Gary Powers took off from Pakistan, flew over Afghanistan and Central Asia before he was shot down over the Soviet Union. The first secretary general of NATO, General Ismay was a veteran of the Anglo-Afghan wars.
