      The Mist isn't so much of a horror movie as much as spooky as suspenseful. The Mist is my absolute favourite short story of Stephen King's, but without spoiling, they changed certain things they shouldn't have.
      PS greatest reaction to this movie. My favourite movie ever. You were phenomenal to watch and listen to your point of view. That's gravy mate.

    This movie has so many clever little things snuck into it. That aria that Andy plays over the speakers is two women plotting a con, Gilda is the movie they are watching with Rita Hayworth and the two men are gangsters, that book by Dumas is about a prison break where they dig a tunnel. I know there are more, but those three are the ones off the top of my head.

      Yeah, a couple things I know: you hear a harmonica when red approaches the tree at the end, in the background music... when Brooks leaves the prison the camera points back towards the prison, but when Red leaves it faces outward. Also, Reds commentary is all in the past tense until he leaves prison then it becomes the present as he begins to talk about hope and the future

    Your comments at the end, about hope, are surprising. They get to the heart of the story in a way that many people, even film critics, miss.
    I've seen people who took away, from this film, that the actual redemption was Reds. And, sure, he found a redemption, of a kind, and it's an important piece of the film. But it's not really what the story was driving at. I think that the ending of the movie can disguise the real redemption that took place in Shawshank...
    In the novella, it ends with Red crossing the border from Texas to Mexico. He is full to bursting with hope, and we never even get to see if it pays off… which is arguably a bit more powerful of a message.
    In the movie, there is a final payoff. We, the audience, see “proof” of the value of hope. In the novella, the final payoff is just the hope itself. The message is not “Keep on hoping and things will turn out!” The message is “Having something to hope for is a beautiful thing, even when it seems like it may be out of reach. You’d better get busy living, or get busy dying.”
    When the novella ends… it leaves the reader full of hope. Hope that Red makes it.
    That’s the Shawshank Redemption. It leaves us all with nothing more than hope.

    Definitely here for Lord Of The Rings! For another film based on a Stephen King book I think you'd like 1983's 'The Dead Zone' starring Christopher Walken.
    A couple of symbolic moments about The Shawshank Redemption. Red says to Andy that his idea on what he'd do if he got out of prison was just "a shitty pipe dream." And so Andy crawls through a shitty pipe to freedom!☺ Also, as Brooks exits the prison the background shot is of the inside of the prison, but when Red leaves the background shot is of the outside world.

They would have then found the weak wall and would have moved his cell for sure. What a great movie

    The director's decision to avoid revealing the specific details of Red's crime is a compelling choice that significantly influences how audiences perceive him. Imagine if they had disclosed that he cut his wife's brake lines for an insurance payout, resulting in the tragic deaths of his wife, a neighbor, and her newborn child in the crash. Would such a revelation have made it impossible for many to sympathize with Red? ---Which is exactly what Red did in Stephen King's novella "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption".

  • @Mister_Samsonite
    @Mister_Samsonite 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Red had such an interesting character "development", if you want to call it that. From the jump, he was the only inmate who admitted he was guilty and showed remorse for his crime. Thru the first two parole reviews he had accepted the fact that he deserved to be where he was, and had no illusions of an early release. After 40 years Andy had given him enough hope and showed him that he was redeemed. I just love how it illustrates that many of us often create our own prisons, whether we deserve to be there or not.

      @@JKWESITV Yeah it's a tough balance, what with copyright considerations and all. Your edit is certainly better than many. Including the key moments, scenes and dialogue while being reasonably restrained about how much you talk definitely makes it a more appealing watch.
