Alright, here's someone she probably has heard of. One day the movie's producer Steven Spielberg came by to check on how director Robert Zemeckis was doing on Back to the Future, and he brought with him an actor and friend he happened to be talking with. Zemeckis was about to film the scene where Marty McFly, realizing he's late for school, hops on his skateboard and hitches a ride by grabbing a passing Jeep that's going his way. Zemeckis complained that the guy he'd hired to drive the Jeep hadn't shown up for work, and he needed to find a Screen Actors Guild member to do the job fast so he could get the scene in the can. Spielberg's actor friend volunteered to fill in. They put a baseball cap and a pair of glasses on the guy in hopes that that would make him unrecognizable to audiences, and he's only seen onscreen for a few seconds, but really, it's not all that hard to tell that the Jeep driver is Harrison Ford making a cameo appearance in Back to the Future.
Michael called his band the pinheads. He probably got the name from a real rock band from Vancouver called the Headpins, he just changed it a little bit. 😊
I first saw BTTF when I was 7 years old and it was immediately my favorite movie and still is to this day. I always love watching people get exposed to it for the first time. Thank you for watching and sharing!
My second movie date with you Kate, what a wonderful experience..you make watching movies fun again..:) thank you. Enjoy your day..sing alittle it's good for the heart 😊
Kate, you are the best at these reactions! Insightful, knowledgeable - you knew Chuck Berry! And you don't make it about you, as too many do. I watch a lot of reactions and yours are far and away the most fun. Going back to watch more of your older ones, as It's a Wonderful Life was the first. Thanks Kate, keep up the great work. You're going to be very successful!
I was born in 1950, so I remember the '50's well. Watching this movie in 1985, though, showed how things were different 30 years earlier - and yet I, like most people, hadn't been paying attention - these small incremental changes added up. Their 1955 Hill Valley gets so many things absolutely right. It is a great lesson of that time period. Robert Zemeckis was director on both this and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and both films, in wildly different ways, have as the background the radical change in American society in the immediate decades after WWII, with housing and businesses migrated from a crowded downtown to modern urban sprawl of developments and malls - leaving downtowns for marginal businesses. (If you haven't seen Roger Rabbit, it is a stunning film.)
I live near the high school where this was filmed, Whittier high school in Whittier California, the high school of president Nixon. It still looks like this, 1920's art deco flavor
I lived across from the puente hills mall. I went to the set where they were setting up for filming late at night. Fans of the film have parties in the lot on the anniversary. I guess they are going to get of the mall.
Definitely watch Back to the Future 2 and 3 because it comes full circle. Also, check out the movies The Goonies(1985), Weird Science(1985), Honey, I Shrunk the Kids(1989), and The Karate Kid(1984).
I was 14 in 1985 and absolutely loved this movie. The Back to the Future films are one of my favorite movie trilogies ever made. I love the score by Alan Silvestri; the music for these films always fills me with a sense of wonder and adventure. This trilogy is an amazing ride. I love the scene where George finally stands up to Biff; seeing him knock Biff out cold never gets old. Not to mention the look on Lorraine's face right after that, followed a short time later by that first kiss. And Marvin Berry being Chuck Berry's cousin was awesome.
Don't worry. You're not the first to mistake Doc's dog in 1955 for Einstein. (You gained 1,000 points for getting the Chuck Berry reference later 👏🎸) The dog he had back then was named Copernicus, after another man of science, Nicolaus Copernicus. In the 15th century, he was a mathematician, astronomer, and is credited for forming the model that the Earth rotates around the sun, rather than the other way around, as was once believed. Like Doc Brown, he was considered crazy for his beliefs. Doc's dog Copernicus was either a mixed breed or a breed of terrier, possibly a Wheaten. Einstein the dog was a Catalan sheepdog. Interestingly, Albert Einstein died in 1955.
Really hope you watch all three. It completes an amazing story. The character that played Biff really didn’t like doing the car scene with Loraine. He said it made him feel horrible, even though they were just acting. I could literally write a book on my thoughts but I’ll just say glad you reacted to this movie and looking forward to more!!
3:55 "Too darn loud" judge is Huey Lewis, writer and performer of 'Power of Love,' the song from the opening sequence & what The Pinheads are playing for the audition.
Huey Lewis and the News were one of the biggest bands of the early 80’s. They performed the opening (The Power of Love)and closing songs (Back in Time). Marty’s band, The Pinheads, performed a cover of The Power of Love for their audition at the talent show. Huey Lewis played the teacher who told them, “. . . . you’re just too darned loud”.
Great reaction. I'm glad I found this channel. A couple of things that other commenters didn't mention is that the shopping mall before Marty went back to 1955 was called Twin Pines Mall, when he arrives back in 1985 after spending a week in 1955, the mall is now called Lone Pine mall. This is because Marty knocked over one of Mr. Peabody's pine trees when escaping his barn in 1955. Also, when you watch the second film, don't watch any further than when it says "To Be Concluded" because there will be major spoilers for the third film. I'm looking forward to seeing your reactions to 2 and 3.
Great reaction, and it's the start of a journey you will enjoy for sure! What's funny is that the movie is also a bit of commentary about how town centers decayed between the 50s and the 80s, and now people look at 1985 Hill Valley and think: "Oh, that looks quite nice."
This reaction was super adorable! It's always great to see people reacting to this gem of a film for the very first time. I can't wait to see you react to next two BTTF movies!
I've seen this movie many times but only now noticed that Marvin Berry is clearly left handed [it's cut when opening the trunk/boot], so the guitar strings would be set for a south paw, but Marty is clearly right handed when playing it. I don't think there would have been time to restring Marvin's guitar, so unless he's playing a spare guitar I reckon a continuity error here.
Back to the Future was so successful, they decided to film two more, which they filmed II and III at the same time. Because they filmed them at the same time there is a spoiler at the end of the second movie. If you don't want to watch the spoiler in the movie, just be sure to stop the second movie after the short scene and where the music starts.
I think it's so funny that you thought of Wallace and Grommit (I Love them) when you saw the inventions at the beginning, but the name of "the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist/cartoonist/engineer, and sculptor who originally did all those weird inventions that they mimic in those (W&G) animated films is , Rube Goldberg. Another such inventor from the UK is Heath Robinson. The game Mousetrap is another invention that owes its fame to these two gents as it is based on their previous works.
Glad you loved it Kate...and hope you enjoy part two as much as I enjoyed working on it as YOU CAN TELL FROM MY PROFILE PIC LOL! And have a Happy New Year
Oh this was an exciting one to see pop up; glad you loved it! This is one of those films where the script is just so tight, the setups and payoffs interlock perfectly, and every performance is so charismatic and memorable. There are a handful of jokes that don't make sense anymore but a surprising number of them do. Brilliant choice!
You nailed it, Kate. Exactly the reaction the Producers/Director wanted. Nobody ever spots Billy Zane (Titanic) as one of Biff's gang. I'm sure you'd appreciate the elegant era of the 50's, captured in several movies from Alfred Hitchcock. All the best for the New Year and your life ahead. ; )
Hi Kate! Glad you are reacting to a great Trilogy. By the way, nice sweater! For Robert Zemeckis, this was his second big commercial success. His first was a film released a year before this one in 1984. It it called "Romancing The Stone" A great and fun action adventure caper. Starring Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito. I highly recommend it. Alan Silvestri does a dynamic and beautiful score. Without that film, we probably would not have this trilogy. Before "Romancing" Zemeckis tried for 10 years to have a directorial hit. Finally, for Michael J. Fox, I highly recommend the 1987 Comedy "The Secret Of My Success". A very funny film with wonderful music. David Foster does great music for that film, along with some great 80s rock groups like in this film. Great to watch in between BTTF films. Also, the Judge who told Marty "Your Just Too Darn Loud" is actually the singer for "Power of Love", Huey Lewis of "Huey Lewis and The News". Great reaction Kate! Also very smart observations. I think you will love part 2. A tip for part 2. There is a trailer at the end that kinda spoils part 3. I would recommend you not watch the trailer after the film says "To Be Concluded". You will then approach part 3 with full curiosity.
Thank you for your awesome comment, Alan! I’ll be really careful at the end of the second one to pause it quickly when that interlude appears! Thank you! 🤩
Just discovered the channel. Great reaction - you have a very calming voice. One of the things I like the most about Back to the Future is the idea of seeing how our parents really were. Marty discovered that Lorraine wasn’t so pure and George aspired to write science fiction (and he was a bit of a pervert). I once learned something about my parents that I never expected and it blew my mind. But it brought me closer to them when I saw that they’re interesting, dynamic people.
Yes, I totally agree with you there. I like learning stuff about my mum now that I’m older. It’s like they’re sharing and confiding in you as a friend rather than a child. It’s a nice feeling and good to know they’re their own person 😌
😂👍👍 It's a great one❕ What's amazing is that the trilogy is really like one big story broken into 3 parts, and when they filmed this Part 1 the film makers wasn't sure if it was going to be a great hit 😁 so, after it did, more things get even "better" in Part 2 & 3❕
Great reaction....I just watched your reaction to It's A Wonderful Life. I love your reactions...so real and heart warming. I can hardly wait for your next adventures.
This was such a fun reaction Kate! I'm glad you enjoyed it, though I suspected that you would. I knew you'd appreciate the writing and the way things are set up and then brought back later in clever ways. You even got the Chuck Berry reference, which almost everyone misses! The little bit at the end of the film with Doc reappearing and taking Marty and Jennifer with him was apparently just done for fun and wasn't actually intended to be a lead in to a sequel since they had no idea how popular the film would be. I've heard that the writers later regretted adding it because it locked them in to a specific plot for the sequel and they weren't actually sure how to write the story that the ending set up. Just so you're not confused, they recast Jennifer in Back to the Future II so don't be surprised when she looks different. Also, at the end of Back to the Future II you should stop the movie when it says "To be concluded ..." because they show the trailer for the third film and it has some spoilers.
The look on your face when the plaster broke under Docs feet was priceless. 😊 Did you notice actor Billy Zane as one of Biffs hooligan buddies? Before this came out, when they played the preview trailer in the theatre, people laughed at it like it was going to be the dumbest film ever. Thanks for posting/ watching. 😊 Next 80s film to check out might be "Better Off Dead".
Michael J. Fox was always the writer and director's first choice to play Marty, but he was initially busy with popular sitcom called "Family Ties" (where Michael had become kind of a breakout star), so they instead cast another actor named Eric Stoltz. After a couple of weeks, it became clear that Stoltz wasn't working out. He was a good actor, but he was giving a dramatic performance in a movie that was supposed to be a comedy. So they let him go and worked out a deal with the showrunner of "Family Ties". Michael would work on the show by day and the movie at night. That's why so much of the film takes place at night or indoors.
I have heard that the scene where Marty is putting the key back under the door mat is actually Eric Stoltz's lower half, and there may be one or two other places as well.
Kate, I hope you a nice holiday week! The first Back To The Future movie was so successful that when they made the two sequels they shot them together, back to back. Saved a lot of time and money and they were enormous successes. There was a huge fire on the Universal Studio lot in 2008 (I was living in a rental house less than a mile away at the time!) and the fire took out most of the town square set but the courthouse building was saved. The films took director Robert Zemeckis to the next level in Hollywood. He won an Best Director Academy Award in 1995 for Forrest Gump. Oh, nice to see that you like a little Chuck Berry!
Thanks so much!!! I have, I hope your festive week has been great too. Can’t believe there was a fire!!! Kind of crazy the courthouse was saved along with the clock! 🕰️
@@MovieDateWithKate The fire did much more damage than to the buildings. There was a warehouse that contained music recording masters from hundreds of recording artists from every genre of music over a span of more than eighty years were destroyed. Tom Petty, John Coltrane, R.E.M., Nirvana, Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby and yes, even Chuck Berry masters were lost. More than 100,000 all together.
As usual, fantastic reaction! I've watched a lot of these Back to the Future reactions, and it was awesome that you were the only one I've seen who actually knew the song Johnny B Goode was written by Chuck Berry!! So very cool!!! Peace
8:38 remember in a typical time travel story paradox, doc knew that the Time Machine would work at that very moment which is why he could confidently make Marty stand there with him .
Such a delightful movie reaction . Definitely will return Back to the Future for your Part 2 and Part 3 reactions! The film is proof 80s music such as Van Halen transcends space and time.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. The music, the acting and the story were perfect. Believe it or not critics expected this movie to flop at the box office before it came out. I think it would have been funnier if when Marty got back to 1985, if his family called him Calvin, instead of Marty. 😄 This movie was not planned out with sequels. It had many problems in its making and was almost cancelled. When it did so very well in the box office Sony studios insisted on sequel films. Thank you for this reaction. Your laugh and smile made it more enjoyable. 😊
At the time of filming, actress Wendie Jo Sperber (Marty's sister Linda) was older than Lea Thompson (Lorraine). Wendie Jo Sperber was three years older than Lea Thompson and was six years older than Crispin Glover (George McFly).
This movie took years to get made as it was refused by literally every movie production company, sometimes multiple times as they didn't like the revisions either. Turned out to be one of the best franchises ever.
Glad that you enjoyed it. There are parts 2 & 3, if you're interested--roughly same characters, but different story. I won't spoil anything for you, but the entire trilogy is so well done that you can watch all 3 like one giant movie. You'll like the next 2, I'm sure. Have a nice day & Happy new year.
Glad you enjoyed this film let me know when you have your next one you have the best reactions and expressions I have ever seen I will go into your library and pull up some of your older ones see how they turned out
This came out the year I turned 10. It wil always be a hallmark of my youth. Always bothered me that Marty thought he had time to get to school thinking it was 8am and only freaked when it was 8:25a. Our high school started at 7:50! Such a fun and creative film. They nailed the tone exactly right between comedy and drama. If the movie were to come out this coming summer 2025, Marty would travel back to 1995. Yikes. I don’t know why - maybe because I lived it - but 95 vs 25 doesn’t seem as different from each other as 1955 to 1985. Huey Lewis was the judge with the megaphone judging Marty’s audition early in the film. It was his song, “The Power of Love.” Note the mall sign changed from Twin Pines to Lone Pine because Marty ran over one of the twin pines on arrival in 1955 on Peabody’s farm.

Marty wasn't trying to travel in time. He was trying to escape the men in the VW van. He arrived in 1955 by accident.
You're going to be very successful!
if she knew Chuck Berry, that clinches it for me. There's no "get a clue Kate" here, lol.
@@thomastimlin1724 She's smart!
What a super duper comment! Thanks ever so much! I really do appreciate your encouragement!! 🎸
Oooo I haven’t watched that one! It’s on the list now 🎬 thank you!!
@@MovieDateWithKate Unlike any other movie you have ever seen, nor probably ever see in the future.
@JohnHermann-b5t the mall of my childhood lol
(You gained 1,000 points for getting the Chuck Berry reference later 👏🎸)
The dog he had back then was named Copernicus, after another man of science, Nicolaus Copernicus.
Just LOVED your comment!!!! Thanks so much for informing me about that! I’ve never heard was never very good at maths 🤣 evidently!!!
Loved your reaction. Now you have to see 2 and 3 they are both great.
Looks like your channel is growing nicely. Very happy for you as you deserve it. Always be yourself because that's enough.
What a fab message. I’ll remember that! 🤗💖 thank you.
Oh poor Biff!
The 3rd is my favorite of the sequels. It has a lot of heart. Gotta make it to the 3rd ;)
You make it sound like there are four movies.
80s was a special decade that’s for sure
You can't beat these older classics ... So much more too see
Great reaction, and it's the start of a journey you will enjoy for sure!
What's funny is that the movie is also a bit of commentary about how town centers decayed between the 50s and the 80s, and now people look at 1985 Hill Valley and think: "Oh, that looks quite nice."
I absolutely love your attention to detail...And another beautiful reaction, thank you 😊😊😊
This reaction was super adorable!
You may know that the Gibson ES-345 TDC he played didn't come out until 1959 👍
Back to the Future was so successful, they decided to film two more, which they filmed II and III at the same time. Because they filmed them at the same time there is a spoiler at the end of the second movie. If you don't want to watch the spoiler in the movie, just be sure to stop the second movie after the short scene and where the music starts.
Don't stop. BTTF 2 is our least favorite. Some may disagree but 3 is better than 2.
Thanks so much for making me aware!!! I’ll definitely pause it before the trailer for the third part. ☺️
Christopher Lloyd was in the 1970's tv comedy series "Taxi". Lea Thompson was in the movie Jaws 3.
Oh absolutely love that!!! I had the mouse trap game as a child too!! 😁😆
I think your reaction to this and "It's A Wonderful Life" have both been really amazing! I really enjoy your reactions!😉🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹😋
That’s so lovely of you to say. Thank you!
Glad you loved it Kate...and hope you enjoy part two as much as I enjoyed working on it as YOU CAN TELL FROM MY PROFILE PIC LOL! And have a Happy New Year
AWESOME channel pic!! 😍
Happy New Year to you too!! 🥳
Beautiful reaction (as always). Back to the Future Part III will really melt your heart (When and if you happen to get to it). Cheers!
Your reactions are so playful and cheeky and I love it! You got yourself a new subscriber!
You should react to Jim Carrey movies like Bruce Almighty and Dumb and Dumber, I think you (and your viewers) will have a lot of fun with them haha
Your reactions are alway wonderful.
We used "park" as a verb in small town usa in the 70s.
And they all run together perfectly
You nailed it, Kate. Exactly the reaction the Producers/Director wanted. Nobody ever spots Billy Zane (Titanic) as one of Biff's gang. I'm sure you'd appreciate the elegant era of the 50's, captured in several movies from Alfred Hitchcock. All the best for the New Year and your life ahead. ; )
Thank you!!! All the best to you as well for a lovely New Years celebration!
As you see there are REASONS this is taught in film school as THE perfect trilogy
at least one musician cameo in each film. oh and yes he knew how to skateboard beforehand he was a crazy good skater and ice skater!
Oh that’s cool!!! ⛸️🛹
Hi Kate! Glad you are reacting to a great Trilogy. By the way, nice sweater! For Robert Zemeckis, this was his second big commercial success. His first was a film released a year before this one in 1984. It it called "Romancing The Stone"
A great and fun action adventure caper.
What a great fun film. It was really nice to see your excitement for the movie. Great reaction Kate.
😂👍👍
It's a great one❕
What's amazing is that the trilogy is really like one big story broken into 3 parts, and when they filmed this Part 1 the film makers wasn't sure if it was going to be a great hit 😁 so, after it did, more things get even "better" in Part 2 & 3❕
Perfect story perfect casting perfect movie. Can’t wait for you to react to the other two.
Thank you for your emotions, I had a lot of fun, I'm waiting for the second part.
🫵🏼🙂 YOU, are a delight! Keep up the reactions!
Cheers.
Thank you so much!!
You are in for a treat in my opinion this is the best trilogy ever made.
Great reaction....I just watched your reaction to It's A Wonderful Life. I love your reactions...so real and heart warming. I can hardly wait for your next adventures.
What a great comment!! Thank you very much for supporting my channel :)
Thanks so much! I'm smiling at the thought of the writers trying to tie in Doc's space suit and uno sunglasses into a new plot! :D
It was amazing when it first came out. Miss the 80s. Glad you found your way to it too.
That was a fun reaction to watch along with you.
Great reac, Kate! Brand-new fan of yours here from the Philippines. Thanks for this video. I watched BTTF when it came out in '85.
Thanks so much! Best greetings to you in The Philippines 🇵🇭
The look on your face when the plaster broke under Docs feet was priceless. 😊
Did you notice actor Billy Zane as one of Biffs hooligan buddies?
Before this came out, when they played the preview trailer in the theatre, people laughed at it like it was going to be the dumbest film ever.
Thanks for posting/ watching. 😊
Next 80s film to check out might be "Better Off Dead".
It was a pleasure watching your reaction, thank you !!!
Thanks for watching! :)
I wondered what John F Kennedy was doing in 1955 and looked it up. He was a junior senator for Massachusetts.
Peace
Thanks so much!! I’m really glad you could watch my video! :)🎸
Fantastic reaction! Loved it!
Beautiful reaction. Thank you. All 3 movies in the set are good.
Best science-fiction comedy ever, perfect in every way. Loved your reaction.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. The music, the acting and the story were perfect. Believe it or not critics expected this movie to flop at the box office before it came out.
I think it would have been funnier if when Marty got back to 1985, if his family called him Calvin, instead of Marty. 😄
This movie was not planned out with sequels.
I love the scene when George punches Biff. It always brings a tear to my eye to see George kiss Lorraine, too.
Vader from vulcan a perfect star wars and star trek blending, I love this movie, saw ot as a child in theater. 4 years old
That’s an awesome age to watch this and grow up with it! I was super duper late to the party 😅😆
Thanks so much for watching! Happy New Year to you!!
Great reaction, you are a gem!
Doc's doggo in the 50's is called Copernicus.
Glad you enjoyed this film let me know when you have your next one you have the best reactions and expressions I have ever seen I will go into your library and pull up some of your older ones see how they turned out
One of my favourite movies saga since it got released ❤
15:32 this scene to me is comical because back in Marty’s day this diner was an aerobics studio!!! So he’s like ?????????
It was his song, “The Power of Love.”
Note the mall sign changed from Twin Pines to Lone Pine because Marty ran over one of the twin pines on arrival in 1955 on Peabody’s farm.
Loved your comment, and you’re so right! They definitely nailed the balance with the comedy and drama. 🥰
You are sooo good at this! My wife and I love your channel🙂❤️
That’s really awesome!! Thank you both for supporting me.
Loved your reaction to this great movie. Really enjoyed all your facial expressions. You’re so cute and funny. Your accent really added to the experience. Especially when you said, “I hope he kicks ass.” Superb! So glad I found your channel. This was very entertaining. Thank you for your commentary to this classic film. You’re great 🥰
Thank you SO MUCH for your comment!
First movie I saw with my first 'real' girlfriend back in 85. She was 15, I was 16. Isabelle, a very pretty little redhead who smelled like a buttery croissant in the morning. A Wednesday afternoon at the Eldorado cinema in Brussels, Belgium.
She passed away a few years ago.
I’m so sorry she passed away. 🤍🕊️
26:55 can we give some sort of award for their record breaking quick service
This is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I really just came to see how many people point out Huey Lewis's cameo. Four so far, but there will undoubtedly be more.
Kate, what a lovely reaction, as usual. Joining you for this was an hour well spent on my part. It might be worth watching the sequels. It's an excellent trilogy...
And what a treat to see you in a second reaction this holiday, after your epic "It's a Wonderful Life" adventure. Happy Holidays to you again.
"like a real life Wallace and Gromit" lol
Thank you Jason for your lovely comment. I so so appreciate you watching! Next video I think will be BoB ep. 4 out this week. Looking forward to our movie date then! Have a really fab time celebrating the New Year!! 💖🎉
A great, fun film. Your reaction and commentary? Superb. Excellent work. Thanks.
This is the best and funnest sci-fi trilogy from the 80's. Watch them all, you won't regret it. 😉
Love that you enjoyed a great classic, even though it doesn't feel like a classic to me. I saw it in the theaters when I was on a date back when I was in high school, lol.
“Back to the Future” made Michael J. Fox a star. Back then it was all the rage. Nice presentation as usual!
