In the Beginning where they exchange names and Morgan Freeman says "The names Red" and follows it up with "maybe because im Irish" That is because The character Red IS an Irish white guy in the book and this was a little controversy initially when the movie first came out, but none of that matters in the end when the performance Mr. Freeman delivers is the best of his career and the movie many consider to be the greatest film ever made (myself included). also the part about hope where Andy retorts "like Brooks did" I think is a double Edged sword yes on one hand if Brooks had carried hope of being released his whole 50 years in Shawshank he might have found joy in his freedom when he finally got it on the other hand Brooks might have committed suicide "hoping" he would be released over the course of 50 years where it did not happen Lastly Morgan Freeman was interviewed about his career about 12-15 years ago and they mentioned this movie, the interviewer said it was such a powerful movie about friendship hope and the enduring spirit. Morgan Freeman corrected the interviewer and told him "Its a love story between two men" that description has always stuck with me as mind blowing to be honest.
For another excellent wrongful imprisonment film, check out *In the Name of the Father* (1993) starring Daniel Day Lewis. Basen on a true story, set in Northern Ireland in the 1970s.
See? This is what I love about Frank's reaction videos. He takes all the time he needs to really evaluate and connect with the material, and this isn't even all of it. I don't know how other reactors can even do a superficial assessment of this film in 30-35 minutes and think it's good.
You have no idea how much I appreciate this comment. I really care about the things I do watch and enjoy sharing my thoughts. Its always good to hear it's being appreciated
I couldn't agree more! Whenever a reaction for this movie pops up and I see that it's less than 40min, I just know that they've done a hatchet job on the editing, and skipped or talked over critical plot points. You really need a minimum of 50min reaction to give this film the attention it deserves. Frank is among the best I've watched for everything. Very thoughtful and thorough!
I love the zoom out when Andy and Red meet at the beach, and we can only just see them embrace. It's like the movie is telling the audience "you've followed these guys for 20 years, now fuck off, this moment is for them" 💔
@@FrankFreezy_ So the original cut of the movie (and also the original novella) ended with Red on the bus, with his "I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope" speech. But test audiences wanted to see Red and Andy reunite. They eventually decided to go ahead and shoot a scene of Andy and Red meeting in Zihuantanejo as the true ending, but that it shouldn't have any dialog, because everything that needed to be said had already been said. EDIT: This is my favorite movie, and I maintain that it may be the best movie ever made. I've watched it on my own at least 20 times, and I've watched reactions of it maybe 20 more. Your reaction was pretty close to the best, and it's because you took your time. You didn't just ask random questions at the camera and then never come back to it; you took the time to think deeply and to share your thoughts.
That's actually true. Okay, maybe not literally like "fuck off" lol, but the DVD commentary said that they intentionally wanted Red and Andy's reunion to be intimate, just for them, to let them have their moment.
27:20 I don't think you have to worry that anybody will mistake your glee for homophobia, lol. I think Red touched on this earlier when Andy told him that he isn't a homosexual, and Red replied "Neither are they. You gotta be human first, and they don't qualify". I think he was getting at the fact that The Sisters aren't necessarily gay, they're just predators. They enjoy preying on weaker people, and the form that takes for them is sexual assault. Boggs definitely got what he deserved.
It's a subtle detail but society's slow, progressive shift towards humanising inmates is represented by the first words of each parole hearing. In the first one Red is told to "Sit", the second "Sit down", and the third "Please, sit down."
It's crazy how much changed in Brook's 50 years. Someone born the year he went to prison could easily be a grandparent. He's old enough that the primary means of transport when he was sent to prison was horse & wagon, that's probably how he arrived. He missed both World Wars, nuclear bombs, the Spanish Flu pandemic, the mass production of cars and airplanes, the start of the Cold War, and the establishment of Israel. Like, the world as he knew it is completely gone and he had no hope of ever catching up.
I appreciate what you said about men and SA. It took me a long time just to realize I was assaulted, I made excuses and tried reasoning it away, just to try and forget about it. But one day, years after the fact, a situation just triggered me and it was like it took me back to that time, in that moment, and all the memories I guess I had repressed came flooding back and I broke down. Even after finally coming to terms with it, I can’t really talk about it, at least not with people close to me. I find it easier to talk to strangers about it, oddly enough.
@@MetastaticMaladies much love man. Sorry that happened to you. I happy you’re able to now talk about it, even just to strangers. I believe there’s healing in that
Just want to say thank you for bringing up how sexual assault towards men shouldn't be joked about. Sexual assault is STILL FUCKING sexual assault. (I'm not even gonna get started on all those "comedies" where they pull shit like this.)
Amen to that. And when I was younger ,I did make those jokes as well, it's so sad and unfortunate that that's the norm. But yes we should keep speaking on it. That awareness is so so important.
Not only that, but prison itself is the punishment for one's crimes. The law doesn't say, 'You get 20 years in prison and, oh yeah, lots of beatings and SAs as well.' It's so unjust, and i agree, jokes about it are not funny.
@@FrankFreezy_ I’m struggling with how bad it is that men are sexually assaulted in prison, according to men and a few women. Depending on what they’re in there for, anything sexual predators, children murdered and so on. They have it coming b/c that is the Justice they deserve. Of course Andy didn’t have it coming. Now my rant. I’m completely over the shame, and how bad it is for a man to be raped, but completely ignore the numbers of sexual assaults that happen to women and children everyday all day. You men bury your heads when it comes to women. We are beaten to death or near death by men for sex, power and so on. The president elect has been convicted of a felony sex charge and no one bats an eye. You know, it’s just a woman. And all the men that don’t believe this shit happens all the time. If the president elect had sexually assaulted a man, there would be a whole different outcome and outrage. A senator is quoted as saying about women being raped was: it’s just sex, they should just relax and try to enjoy it: the hypocrisy saddens my heart. The men should be held accountable across the board. When we have a few people being given a high ranking position in the government, from one sexual predator to another and is being investigated for child sex trafficking. If he is convicted of this and sent to prison, I hope he will be raped, sodomized, and tortured like the children. There is nothing wrong with prison Justice on prisoners who have done crimes of sexual assault, and torture and a brutal murder. You shouldn’t be able to have it both ways!
Thank you so much for watching this, Frank! This is one of my all time favourite movies. The way it deals with hope and forgiving yourself is just so powerful. I watch this movie at least twice a year to remind myself that hope is indeed the best of things. The emotions I feel by the end always bring me to tears. Your insights and the ways in which you relate to what you're watching are always so thoughtful. I look forward to you continuing on your amazing journey with the community you have built here, and continue to build. You have made my day with this reaction!
This reminds me: Frank, if you haven’t seen ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ (the Jim Caviezel one) then please add it to the list ❤ That’s another one that we love to watch people see for the first time 😊
What really strikes me about Brooks is that the world had completely changed since he went in. He was incarcerated in1905 and paroled in1955. In 1904, he may have seen a few cars, but not many; streets were unlikely to be paved. Telephones in homes were still pretty rare. Commercial airflight was still a decade away. Radio broadcasting was still 2 years away. Women worked in the home or on the farm, or with their husband in a family business, except for unmarried school teachers and nurses. Brooks missed the two World Wars. Brooks was paroled to an alien environment, with social customs he had never known. He was missing basic cultural context that left him unable to make a life for himself, unable to find a mate, unable to even make friends. He had no knowledge of the rules. And on top of this, he had lost all ability to make decisions, to plan, or to handle challenges. I love how the top page cut into to hide the rock hammer in the bible was Exodus; derived from Greek exodos "a road or journey out," from ex- "out" and hodos "road". Same original writer, same director, using a few of the same actors, same story setting (prison). "Shawshank Redemption" is a great, well-crafted film based on an inspired story, as is "The Green Mile". "Shawshank-" is a perfect film, but I still think "Green Mile" is more so. Prisons are places where those trapped by the circumstances of their lives are trapped by the consequences of their lashing back. They are obstructed in the access to good options and placed by society in places even more tightly barricaded from options. Andy patiently assessed the situation and found 'windows' to open, to let in light and air. But Andy was a practical man; he kept working on his 'Plan B' and used it when a crucial 'window' was slammed shut on him and barricaded; he recognized when it was time to go. "Pressure and time" is a great phrase, but the best line in this film is "-time can draw out like a blade."
Shawshank Redemption and Contact are two of my most favorite movies and I’m glad I saw you react to both of them in the last few days. I love the way you express your thoughts because you seem to look at things with true eyes… You know what I mean. You really have your eyes open to see all the details and everything. Even the emotions the characters are feeling. And you’re right. This movie is definitely perfection. I love seeing your furry kids in your reactions. I have a few myself and they are my babies.
Nah, those guys weren't gay. They were straight-up predators. If they were gay than why not just fool around with one another with consent? It's like Red told Andy, "have to be human first, they don't qualify."
Red and the parole board was a story within a story. In Red's first attempts at parole, he just told the board what he thought they wanted to hear. He wasn't being sincere about his feelings. As a result, he wasn't surprised by their rejection. During the last attempt, we see that Red's attitude had changed over 40 years. He had come to terms with his crime and his guilt. The parole board had also changed. New people, younger people, and even a woman were on the parole board. Their attitude had also changed over time. They understood his apathy towards the parole process, and they saw that he was truly remorseful for what he did. APPROVED!!
A perfect movie. I once moved in another country for work. I had to move fast, so I just had my laptop with no internet for a week before my stuff came. I had prepared a disk with movies, since i had no friends there and wanted something to do. When I set up, I realized I forgot the disk. I had only one movie : the Shawshank Redemtion. I wached it every single evening of that week, sometimes multiple times. And I never got bored a single time, not a second. It was just awesome.
While both movies are great in their own way the Green Mile leaves the viewer with a sense of despair while The Shawshank Redemption has imo arguably the most satisfying ending in cinematic history. 😊
I agree- both fabulous! Green Mile definitely does leave a feeling of despair. However, Shawshank, for me, traveled through such dark territory that I wasn't able to fully enjoy the ending.
Dark yes but an amazing story, beautifully acted, a perfect soundtrack, Morgan Freemans narration and the message, "Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things and no good thing ever truly dies" makes this a perfect movie to me. I hope you're having a wonderful day and Merry Christmas. 😊
So happy that you did this movie. Shawshank is one of the best movies ever made. Anytime I see that it's on TV, I'm watching it, even though I've seen it so many times I can pretty much quote it. And give Gus a pet for me - he's a gorgeous cat!
You mentioned how crazy it is to have Red say that Brooks should have died in prison. Not sure if you noticed, in Brooks's letter, he said he should commit another crime so that they'd send him back home. He considered prison home. Heartbreaking.
I agree with you about Steven King's ability to write relatable characters. It's what got me hooked as a kid, you even get a few pages from the point of view of the dog Big Steve/Kojak in the Stand His book "On Writing " is really good, as a dabbler in many artistic formats I felt that it applied to any creative expression!
There’s a reason Stephen King is such a popular author and there has been so many movies and TV shows adapted from his stories. He creates amazing characters. Both the heroes and villains are complex and fascinating. Some other great movies based on his books I think you’d enjoy: Stand By Me (coming of age story and my personal favorite), Dolores Claiborne, and Misery. None of them supernatural horror, just ordinary drama like Shawshank Redemption. For good adaptations that do have a horror/supernatural element: Carrie (the one from the 1970s, The Stand (1990s miniseries), It, The Shining, Silver Bullet, among others.
Have you noticed the differences when brooks got released, and when Red got released. When Brooks got released, the camera was facing the prison, when red was releasd, the camera was facing away from the prison. It was on purpose i believe.
i'll add to the sentiments below: perhaps the most insightful, interesting, patient commentary on this great movie I've ever seen. Made me wish I was sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with Frank, watching the film, and looking forward to discussing it afterward for hours. Those were the days.
@@moon-moth1 I think you could also read him as a psychopathic rapist who also happens to be actually gay in a time where coming out of the closet isn't really an option. I'll admit he fills the stereotype but he gives me "on the outside he'd be straight" kinda closeted vibes.
This movie is in my top 5 of all time! Loved your reactions and commentary, so glad you enjoyed it. That painting behind you looks like the vampire Louis! It’s absolutely beautiful ❤🙌❤
Another great virtual hangout watch with you again Frank. And one of my favorite all-time films. Ironically the other one being The Green Mile, another King/Darabond collaboration and prison movie! Who would have thought? By the way, your personality, presence and the background of the room you're in really shows a well-rounded, interesting and cultured man. It's refreshing. Cheers. ✌️🎬
You have a beautiful soul. You are becoming one of my favorite reactors on TH-cam. I especially appreciate how you pointed out that prison r*pe jokes are not really funny and are taken WAY too lightly. I'll never forget that "Guardians of the Galaxy", a movie intended for children to see, has an extended prison r*pe joke. I still liked the movie, but it's so sad that prison r*pe is so normalized in the USA that it's considered appropriate to joke about it to kids. Other "first world" countries are not like this. And don't be afraid to share your thoughts on the prison-industrial complex. People need to hear that stuff. You can't underestimate how naive and ignorant some people in the USA are. They need to hear you say stuff that you think might be obvious.
You gotta see more Tim Robbins. Jacobs Ladder is REALLY good. Dark, brooding, but so artistically unique. Also, Bull Durham with Tim and Susan Sarandon. They were in a very long relationship in real life and had kids. Thanks for the excellent reaction!
"Jacobs Ladder" was written by the same person who wrote "Ghost" (starring Patrick Swayze & Demi Moore), both excellent films. It just shows you how much difference the director makes in filmmaking.
Another must watch movie with Tim Robbins is Mystic River. Directed by Clint Eastwood it has a great cast: Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden, Laura Linney, just to name a few. Sean Penn won an academy award for best actor and Tim Robbins one for best supporting actor.
I remember this movie coming on TV when I was a kid and even then I knew it was special. This film is so full of humanity and I’d be suspicious of anyone who doesn’t think so. What a great movie!
The UN has declared maximum time in solitary is 15 days, with 2 hours of every day outside....yet even today people are known to spend months in solitary. It causes massive mental damage. Take the case of Kalief Browder who was innocent of a crime of stealing a backpack....he was held in solitary for the entire time awaiting his trial - 800 days in solitary. He was found innocent and sued NY - won 3 million, but the damage was done and he ended his own life he was so mentally damaged by that solitary confinement. We have not progressed since this film was set at all.
I clicked so fast, Frank! This is probably my favorite movie…next to The Green Mile and Forrest Gump. Great to see you this particular Sunday after such a hard week. Looking forward to your reaction. Starting…NOW! ❤
Wonderful movie....the best line of the movie is the very end when he says "i hope to see my friend and shake his hand"....hits like a brick bat the older you get ..🔥✌️gets me emotional every time.
I'm just 20 mins in but I have to say Frank your the first reactor I've seen who's pointed out how horrible SA is and how it's treated as a joke when it comes to men in our society. There is a channel Pop Culture Detective that did a 2 part video on SA Played For Laughs that dives into it's use in movies & media. I also remember watching a documentary called "The Invisible War" that's about SA in the military and even though most that told their story were women one man told his story too and it stuck with me. He was terrified to tell anyone even his wife he thought it would change how she felt about him.
“Thank you to me for sponsoring this video”😂😅 Fantastic art my dude, hope to have some some day down the line. Love that you got to this! It’s some what of a comfort film for me. I think the /hope/ even in the darkest times is what sings through to me. Thanks for another thoughtful reaction x
1:14:52 Andy left hope for red. The seed carried from prison, held in his hand in his moment of fear and doubt, then reborn like a new sprout from an old tree planted under the mexico sun.
"Salvation lies within" - Warden Norton. The rock hammer was in the bible. If you want another good Stephen King movie, check out "Stand By Me." "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" (original title), and "Stand By Me" come from the same collection of short stories by Stephen King.
I used to be in the RAF, and we used to fly the jets out of Nellis Airbase for six weeks of the year. My fondest memory was four of us hired Harley's and rode down through the National Park to the Hoover Dam. On the way we passed a chain gang, and it was exactly as they show it in the films. Guards with their shades on and rifles ready as we blasted past, and rightly or wrongly, I gave the guys a wave as we went past.
The Shawshank redemption is not about Andy's redemption, it's about Reds redemption. Andy did nothing wrong that needed to be redeemed. Red on the other hand was guilty and the movie is about his redemption.
First time I saw this movie was when I was 8 years old when it came out on vhs .. watched it at my grandmothers in south Florida when we were visiting and even then I felt a powerful presence in the film.. it’s just simply one of Steven Kings greatest stories.. and this film did it justice .. Frank Darabont is a legend
I think describing the line "He should have died in here" as ironic is suitable, but the irony is subtle and it doesn't immediately reveal why it's ironic, so maybe the term _ironic humanity_ best describes it.
I knew you would love it. It’s such an amazing movie. Stephen King is a master storyteller. He’s just brilliant. And the director does a beautiful job of bringing his works to life. My favorite part…that the whole movie ends on the words “I hope…”. It’s the most important message of all. Just beautiful! And yes, my cat, Sir Figaro Toesington (he’s a Hemingway, hence the TOEsington 😏) likes to lick like that. He also loves to play fetch and chase his tail. He’s a character. Gus is beautiful. Cats are my favorite animals. Any size. Magnificent creatures. As always it’s been a beautiful and thoughtful reaction. Thank you for letting us watch it with you. ❤️
My cat Oliver looks just like Gus. He's beautiful. Great reaction video; the Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies. And by the way, your art is amazing. I hope your sales soar.
I can’t believe you haven’t seen this one before, but I’m grateful that I get to see your reaction. I hope this video blows up and even more people get to join the Franklin family.
1:15:05 Yes, super valuable ❤ Hope! I love the detail in the scene before that, when Red is looking at the guns to buy, so he can rob the food way and go back "home". Then they reveal he actually bought the compass. That's also hope. He chose to hope that his friend had something good waiting for him, and dove head first ❤
It's insane to think that Shawshank, Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction were all up for best picture for that year? Like what!? Talk about heavy hitters. Coolest symbolism of the movie is the difference between Brooks and Red leaving the prison. 37:04 Brooks had no hope, so the camera face inward, because his mind was trapped. 1:11:53 Red had hope so his mind was looking forward to what was outside the prison gates.
The wast majority of people don’t realize that this is actually Red’s redemption. Also most people have never seen Tim Robbins before. This is the first introduction of Tim Robbins as an actor for them. Therefore I always recommend Arlington Road with him. A great drama that for whatever reason doesn’t have reactions. I have no idea why because it has one of the most incredible endings. I keep hoping someone will finally react to it which would put it on the radar of other reactors.
@jamesdamiano8894 Can't agree with first introduction, as Bull Durham is pretty well known, but I do love Arlington Road! That movie needs people reacting to it!
@ what I meant was that for most reactors is this movie is there first introduction to him as an actor. Not that Arlington Road was his first movie. I just want these channels to watch it and no one does. I can’t explain why. I’m not sure if it’s not on any streaming services. His part in Top Gun is so small it’s hard to realize he’s even in it.
@ as I told someone else. I wasn’t saying this was his first movie, but this seems to be the first movie that people seem to have been introduced to him as an actor not realizing that he had done plenty of movies before. That’s is why I suggest Arlington Road, simply because he’s very good in that and because no one ever reacts to it.
I agree that this is the introduction of Tim to a lot of new viewers. Many times, people start reacting to TSR and as the beginning credits roll, they often say, "I don't know who Tim Robbins is," and then, "Oh, Morgan Freeman is in this; I love/like him." That makes me sad since I love Tim. I think I first really remembered him in Bull Durham.
Such a excellent cast and great movie. I have seen this many times and never tire of it, but movies I like even more are: The Station Agent (2003), Lone Star (1996), L.A. Confidential (1997). For more Tim Robbins I recommend: Bull Durham (1988), Mystic River (2003).
My favorite trivia from this movie is that the guard, Byron Hadley, is played by Clancy Brown...the same gentleman who did the voice for Mr. Krabs on Spongebob😂
I have actually been to this prison before on the Shawshank prison tour. It's in Mansfield, Ohio called the Mansfield reformatory. It's worth a trip, especially if you're a fan of the movie. There's so many things in this prison. It's honestly amazing, This prison was nearly knocked down and because someone forgot to turn the paperwork in it saved it. After the movie the director showed up and had one more shot to do and he saw a bulldozer and it got canceled... There's actually a haunted prison tour in October
All of Stephen King's horror movies take place in situations from regular life. All of his uplifting and hopeful movies take place in a maximum security prison.
Tim Robbins breaks my heart and inspires me in this film. A perfect drama! Another great drama that I find heartbreaking but inspiring is The Pianist. Adrian Brody's performance in that is the stuff of legends. Great reaction!
You know, what you mentioned about how you were trying to hold out hope that Andy didn't use the rope to go out like Brooks did, is kind of the moral of the story. With Brooks and Tommy, the movie tried to take away your hope since it didn't pay off those times. That was Red's philosophy. But with Andy, you were able to hold on to that hope because it's where it mattered most of all.
Loved your reaction. One of my favorites to this movie, which is one of my favorite movies. One of Stephen King's strengths as an author is his ability to make characters real. Many of them are flawed in some way, which has a way of making them feel more human, but it's also the way he writes their dialogue and interactions. Even in his books, the dialogue is written in a way that just feel natural. As a side note, if it hasn't been in one of the comments already. Stephen King generally doesn't care for movie adaptations of his books, but he liked this one and The Green Mile.
I remember my father introducing this movie to me. At the time i didnt wanna watch it, and I am so glad he convinced me. This is now one of my favorite films of all time.
The song on the radio in the beginning (typical 50:s vibe) made me think of LA Confidential (1997). Fantastic conspiracy thriller/cop drama/whodunnit, starring basically everyone. Russell Crowe in an early Hollywood role, Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey, Kim Basinger, Danny DeVito, etc..
More GUS, Please! Wonderful reaction as always. Shawshank was made first, but not only are Green Mile and Shawshank both King stories, but HUGE shoutout to Frank Darabont, who directed both movies. Stephen King stories can be ruined when they're put on screen, Darabont was the perfect director for these two films. Also, on your question about cats who lick like dogs, they are out there, but don't forget that animals are the best judges of character (usually dogs, but cats too), and he's showing you some love for being a good cat dad!
In my experience people like the warden, who have to stand on a soapbox and pound their chests about what good Christians they are, were the most prolific sinners. They ultimately drove me away from organized Christianity, into several years of faithless wandering in the dark, and ultimately to Buddhism. I think Andy had a touch of Zen himself. We really only ever see him lose control of his emotions once, and rightly so.
Love your reactions as usual FrankFreezy! I actually learn so much from your perspective and experience that comes through in your reactions. I've started to find other reactors boring in comparison :D If you EVER feel like watching a movie that isn't one of the popular ones but, in my opinion, fully deserves to be, I would really love to see you watch 'Road to Perdition' (I can't believe that's not more popular), and 'Memoirs of a Geisha'. Both are beautiful stories with excellent music and acting, but with more of a bleak melancholy element to them. Makes them all the more beautiful and I really think you'd dig it. Criminal that they're never reacted to when movies like this are done so often (deservedly so).
Rita Hayworth was the first actress he had posted on the wall and he kept getting new girls to keep up the act that it was just a typical guys fantasy evolving (the title of Steven’s story is Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption

In the Beginning where they exchange names and Morgan Freeman says "The names Red"
and follows it up with "maybe because im Irish"
That is because The character Red IS an Irish white guy in the book and this was a little controversy initially when the movie first came out,
but none of that matters in the end when the performance Mr. Freeman delivers is the best of his career and the movie many consider to be the
greatest film ever made (myself included).
also the part about hope where Andy retorts "like Brooks did" I think is a double Edged sword
yes on one hand if Brooks had carried hope of being released his whole 50 years in Shawshank he might have found joy in his freedom when he finally got it
on the other hand Brooks might have committed suicide "hoping" he would be released over the course of 50 years where it did not happen
Lastly Morgan Freeman was interviewed about his career about 12-15 years ago and they mentioned this movie, the interviewer said it was such a powerful movie about friendship
hope and the enduring spirit. Morgan Freeman corrected the interviewer and told him "Its a love story between two men" that description has always stuck with me as mind blowing
to be honest.
For another excellent wrongful imprisonment film, check out *In the Name of the Father* (1993) starring Daniel Day Lewis. Basen on a true story, set in Northern Ireland in the 1970s.

Great observation! (or whatever the hearing equivalent of observation is)
@@daidalos4616 earservation.
Yes! Another change is that the men at each parole hearing get progressively younger, and the third time there's even a woman present.
I've watched this movie a million times (and every reaction out there) and still there are new tiny details like this I hadn't noticed! Amazing 👏
@@toddjh immediately useful. bravo.
I'll never get tired of watching reactions to Shawshank. To paraphrase Forrest Gump, I could watch about a million of these. 😅
Same. And it's not like it's a light-hearted, fun watch, LOL. But it's just so damn good!
I definitely sticks with you. And I'm sure watching new people encounter it feels just as good
I think you mean about a million and a half of these…. 😋
Same with me and people watching SW Ep. 1-6.
My favorite movie of all time. It's great to see different perspectives.
@@FrankFreezy_ It really is sad. At least you learned it wasn't okay and grew out of that.
Seconded.
When Red tells Andy that going to Mexico is “shitty pipe dreams”, it foreshadows Andy crawling through a pipe of shit to escape.
I can't believe i've never noticed this before
Thank you so much for watching this, Frank!
"Obtuse" is an excellent word.
Truly is
Yeah, it's acute little insult.

@@Wolf21973 I agree. It was all about power and control, not sexual attraction..

This movie changed me. The love between Red and Andy is pure and true.
I absolutely love your reactions! You are so genuine and empathetic. This is one of my favorite movies, I’m glad you finally watched it ☺️
Thank you so much!!🌺
Never heard a better reflection on Red’s dialogue at the final parole board hearing. That’s probably my favorite scene in the movie.
The ironic part is from the beginning part of the film, but the warden is probably one of the most godless men in the whole prison.
Is that a half finished portrait of Louis de Pointe du Lac in the background? 👀
fuck! I was saving that to be revealed during the finale! You got me. Yes it is
@@FrankFreezy_ very cool. Hope I didn't spoil the surprise 🤫
Great reaction to this great, beautiful film about hope, friendship, and freedom.
It's what got me hooked as a kid, you even get a few pages from the point of view of the dog Big Steve/Kojak in the Stand
His book "On Writing " is really good, as a dabbler in many artistic formats I felt that it applied to any creative expression!
Have to give a shout-out to Frank Darabont, who wrote the screenplays (based on Stephen King works), and directed both Shawshank and Green Mile.
He is a fantastic King adaptor
Amazing 🌺
27:40 - Like Red said, they're not homosexual - for that they would have to be human first.
@@moon-moth1 I think you could also read him as a psychopathic rapist who also happens to be actually gay in a time where coming out of the closet isn't really an option. I'll admit he fills the stereotype but he gives me "on the outside he'd be straight" kinda closeted vibes.

You are one of my FAVORITE reactors and my motivation to really take a look at movies more intently. Great job!
Appreciate that. That means a lot🙏🏾💛
"I hope."

The best commentary I’ve heard in Any reaction!

And he doubled down with the Green Mile. I like The Mist, but I don't think it has the same gravitas

13:55 his name was Robert Paulson
Great reactions and analysis ❤
Thank you!! 😁
His part in Top Gun is so small it’s hard to realize he’s even in it.
his first introduction was "toy soldier" (1984) 10 years, and 19 films prior
@ as I told someone else. I wasn’t saying this was his first movie, but this seems to be the first movie that people seem to have been introduced to him as an actor not realizing that he had done plenty of movies before. That’s is why I suggest Arlington Road, simply because he’s very good in that and because no one ever reacts to it.
I agree that this is the introduction of Tim to a lot of new viewers. Many times, people start reacting to TSR and as the beginning credits roll, they often say, "I don't know who Tim Robbins is," and then, "Oh, Morgan Freeman is in this; I love/like him."
That makes me sad since I love Tim.
Dichotomy at its best!!!! 👌
"A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold."
19:12 One thing is that you sir are intelligent ! But the confidence you have to talk about those things causes respect !
My wife and I live in Ohio...the closed prison this was filmed in is about 2 hours north of us in Mansfield Ohio.
This is the only movie that I've never met anyone that didn't think it was amazing.
Great movie. Not many people have reacted to it, but everyone I've watched loved it.
Love your reactions!! Such a great movie and you have an orange cat named Gus!! Love orange cats they are always one of a kind!! LOL
Thank you so much!! They really are
In my experience people like the warden, who have to stand on a soapbox and pound their chests about what good Christians they are, were the most prolific sinners.
I've started to find other reactors boring in comparison :D
If you EVER feel like watching a movie that isn't one of the popular ones but, in my opinion, fully deserves to be, I would really love to see you watch 'Road to Perdition' (I can't believe that's not more popular), and 'Memoirs of a Geisha'. Both are beautiful stories with excellent music and acting, but with more of a bleak melancholy element to them.
Makes them all the more beautiful and I really think you'd dig it. Criminal that they're never reacted to when movies like this are done so often (deservedly so).
(By the way, Road to Perdition's score is Thomas Newman, same as Shawshank. Great composer. Memoirs of a Geisha is John Williams babyyyy)
