Quick thing: when a baby is about to happen, you can "Gather for Childbirth" with the tab on the pregnant colonist. That skyrockets the healthy child chance, while just shoving the doctor in the room and locking it just smooths their brain into a perfect sphere and the mother ends up doing all the work.

I am genuinely amazed that I'm apparently top comment somehow(?). Hell, I had the same exact situation happen on my first playthrough in January, and I was only told about it after the childbirth went through with an unfortunate sickly result. She was kind of just... downed on the floor and I didn't notice until just before, and you can tell it was too late cause it *happened* happened while she was being rescued to her own bed (keep in mind "rescued" as well).

The switch battery idea can work, but only as an emergency backup. Basiclaly pyu have one battery behind a switch, sharge it and then turn the switch off. If the main batteries suffer a zzzt or something ypu can switch on the last battery to keep up power flow while fixing the primary batteries.
I think I knew this deep down, but it all got a little confused on the way up
I know I may be a month off but no this does not work I have tried batteries have a natural discharge of 5 units per hour when not in use, annoying :/.
Part 2, please: I'd love the idea of a wandering traveller limping to your base with a space suit.
Edit: maybe it's because I'm new here, but I just realized (upon hearing Watney, the Botanist) the detail that the colonists have the names of the characters in that Andy Weir's book. Loved it. Earnt a subscription just because of that.

Okay, so as a South African, here's the deal: we regularly do scheduled blackouts, since our current power grid is out of date and can't keep up with demand. Idk if you've figured this out yet or if someone has already mentioned it to you, but the deep drill pulling up a seemingly random kind of stone chunk despite being on marble isn't a bug. Deep drills, when not drilling into steel, plasteel, or any other specific thing, will pull up a random stone chunk type.

Hey, quick scenario recomendation here: Mark trying to survive when he got stranded in Mars. I think it'd be interesting.
Also, with mods like SeedsPlease (you need seeds to plant vegetables) you could replicate the whole "I only got potatoe seeds; I'm gonna' engineer the f**k out of this to get out of here alive".
This was actually the original plan for this video! After a few tests I realised it would be more fun (narratively) if there were some social interactions, and the rest of the crew made the cut.

Yeah so using roofing expanded really needs you to use that "show roofing" button on the right sometimes. Also I agree the see through roof texture is hideous. I wish I could change it

Actually its a good idea to have some reserve batterys behind a deactivates switch.
In case something happens to your first set of batterys, you always have a reserve to keep the heaters going.
Hydroponics and greenhouses get they own energy grid anyway.
Also you forgot to use the "gather for labor" event to force the doctor and partner to help the mother giving birth.
This was the first time I'd played since children were added, so I didn't even know it was there! Will definitely use this in the future

Also, I saw it was mentioned, but you unfortunately didn't quite understand what the prompt was telling you, about the 'Gather for Birth' option.
I also wonder, could you just build a campfire in that airtight space, to keep the temperature up in power emergencies?
Oh, and... why not set up food priorities that prevent them from eating raw food? That would have helped with some of the earlier dicyness.
