I like the idea of a parallel astral/spirit/soul world, or whatever people want to call it, that only mages can access, and it's where they get their power from, see the flow of mana etc., and it is there where parasites exist that leech off the soul/spirit of a mage, and it manifests in some disturbing way in the real world
Using dead things or tiny golems to cast spells for you so you don't suffer the saturation mutations is a kick ass idea. Edited: could you also do that with plants?
I like the idea of the mana-suctioning tank, who wears many mana funnels not necessarily inputs, but the shapes on the armor and its like a one-off built with something more durable/expensive than a grunt's uniform. With the large mana-suction structures, they could be good for longer term forts or cities to prevent direct terraforming attacks, making enemy mages have to use alternative spells, like said fumigation or tactical distintegration targets to remove the structures.
What if illusion magic was facilitated by directing magic towards a source of light, and manipulating it so that light that object emits doesn't simply illuminate, but casts the appearance of whatever the mage intends? It would only allow for visual deception though, and they would probably have the giveaway that they wouldn't cast any shadows.
Well, if we would want to affect all senses, then the magic's affect area would be the brain of the target. If the magic could somehow give fake electrical and chemical signals to the brain, then it would be like having extreme hallucinations.
You could create a mana attracting structure very quickly with terraforming magic, even if it's not used to attract ennemy spells, it can still be used to help mages gather mana on the frontline and draw mana away from the ennemy's trenches...
How would obsidian function at repelling magic? As it is a type of glass and therefore non-crystalline, meaning it doesn't have a repeating pattern in its structure. Obsidian would be more interesting than ordinary glass as a material, as it comes from volcanic sources.
What if illusion mages what if illusion mages can induce a deep rem and then can induce a feeling post idea what if illusion magic makes it so they have warts or makes them terribly gaunt making it so the often wear veils or large clothes
