The rest are too young, and the 2 that DO know aren't dissuaded by the legends. They're researchers, and they get the job done regardless of the risk. Grand Phantasma seeker not only is old enouph, he must know fatalis too well. Guys like him started the whole hunting guild organization because of fatalis wiped out humanity. And fatalis is the original black dragon just like alatreon

I've managed to find out, through my own sources, that the reason Alatreon came to the New World was because it was fleeing from Fatalis. Yes, even *Alatreon* fear Fatalis...
No longer true, I’m afraid. Alatreon came at the summons of Safi’Jiiva, basically to kill it before it got too out of control. Fatalis did a similar thing, as (accoring to the Iceborne art book) a full-power Safi can pretty handily rival Fatalis.
It is possible that Safi is able to draw black dragons to him like xeno did with normal elders. I think a lot of people forget that elder dragons coming to the new world to die was the original reason for the crossing every 100 years, however not the reason that it suddenly happened every 10 years. most elder dragons currently in the new world are nowhere close to death since that just wouldn't make any sense.

The dialogue after Alatreon with the Third Fleet Master is rather interesting. Apparently the scholars told her that she doesn't know "true fear" and that everything should be burned. Which Monster was is again that supposedly had some sort of fear aura and has already burned an entire kingdom?^^
I like how these four just go in and split off immediately, knowing what they're supposed to do and everything. Meanwhile me and my friends split off and walk around as we watch Alatreon to see what it does at the start of EVERY FIGHT (its a group habit at this point LOL)

If you talk to the Third Fleet Master later after the post-quest cutscene, she has a lot of cryptic dialogue about the guild being "the type that fear old gods" and they told her to "stay ignorant of what true fear is". Definitely feels like they're teasing Fatalis's return.

Agreed on him being easier in Solo, but he's still too damn aggressive at times, and you are really screwed for his damage checks depending on how lucky you get with his move set.

Seeing Josh's heart shatter at having to give up his Brachy greatsword is quite funny. I can imagine every raw weapon Hunter doing that. But woth layered weapons now I can't tell what is being used since you can make it look like anything. Saw a safi Dragon blade and then it was suddenly a ROCKET POWERED GREATSWORD when he abandoned to save items

I might get some hate for this. But I actually really like Escaton judgement being the supermove. It finally, Finally truly encaptures the raw power of a Black dragon. It's do.or die sure but that's kind of the point going up against this monster from a lore perspective. Gameplay wise it's annoying but lore and story wise. No creature should be able to survive it at all. So it works in my book
I agree with you, the fight is definitely lore-accurate, and escaton judgement is actually pretty simple to cancel once you know what to do, and have an effective build
Honestly. The fact that Alatreon is so fun is such a bonus. But yeah. Lore wise this would be the power displayed by a Black Dragon. And with what we know of Fatalis. Oh lord if he came to world. I expect to see several do or die moments like Escaton judgement from the God of all Monsters.
If you complete Both Event quests (Evening Star and Dawn of the Death Star) 3:th Fleet commander comes and tells us that few people had arrived and told her to burn research notes on Alatreon before leaving, not giving any answers as to who they are. Of course she didn't, but who are they, how long this way of thinking has lasted and is there group of humans and/or Wyvernians who want to erase all information on Black Dragons? This kind of ideology has existed on our world, in past as people sought to burn books and destroying evidence of something they did not like. One of best example is when Emperor Qin Shi Huang of ancient China, sought to erase all history before his time in order to history to start from him, luckily he failed to do so completely but still we lost huge number of information about Chinas history.
As much as I love Alatreon I just can’t with that Escaton Judgement I cant even heal in time and I don’t really like doing multiplayer if I can help it. Also what would be the best elemental weapon to use.
If fire active at the start use ice element to weaken escaton judgement, do your best to save a temporal mantle for the dragon active state so flinch shotting for easier horn access isn’t a much of a pain, once the horn is broken focus on keeping your health as high as you can in prep for escaton (just save some healing items for later (or better make sure to bring potion+mega potion ingredients) and repeat the whole process, if he starts ice active the same prices applies just switch the ice weapon for a fire weapon (sorry if this was too wordy)
Take some advice from another lad who solo this monster (still cant beat him in team trying to help a friend, but otherwise its a consistent win), personally, use saffi armor if you can due to large ele boost, try to get max ele attack skill (ice/dragon/fire attack etc). After that, dual blades and lbg do really well (i use dual blade) but other weapons also do well (depends on what works for you)
@@sanguineregis5354you really only need Health boost 3 Blight Resistance 3 Elemental attack 6 And a vitality mantle Everything else is completely up to you Try and get like 500 elemental at the least for your weapon and you'll do fine When he judgements if you've knocked him down once, put on a vitality mantle, and eat an astera jerky the moment it breaks the mantle and starts eating at your health and you'll live. Rinse and repeat
Lunastra Styx HBG has the skill Guts built in & 20% affinity AND it can shoot Fire and Ice ammo recoil 1 with fast reload AND it can still use a shield. Combine this with full Safi Armor; you can hit 100% affinity with Crit boost 3 AAAAAANNNNDDDDD you can use the Guard 5 charm with elemental decos to include level 6 ice or fire and level 4 of the other element (but use 1 level 4 deco to push that level 4 element to level 6). As long as you have two Crit Eye lvl 4 decos you can fit everything and still have room for a fortify and guard up deco to add some "quality of life" skills After 1 dozen successful Alatreon hunts this setup is definitely comfortable and reliable: sure. The Alatreon LBG is AMAZING for this fight but this tip is for anyone who wants a shield or an alternative that doesn't require a weapon they can only craft after fighting it
I really like this version of the Alatreon rap. It's much more fittingly menacing and serious than the last one from GU. Then again, this Alatreon's much more menacing.
It only exists because Capcom got lazy. That and they’re hopelessly smitten with trying to force MMO garbage into World. I blame Behemoth for all this.
Outside of the dps check for Escaton Judgement, the fight itself is really great No idea whose idea it was to include a dps check on a monster thats spends most his time running and flying around, and even worse, make a 100% elemental dps check
Hands down my favorite fight in the game. Its attacks are hit damn hard but are so well telegraphed. They're a spectacle to behold and its OST is amazing. Even with the elemental damage check to reduce damage of EJ, I have to say this is the best and the most fair fight they've put into Iceborne. 10/10

It just feels more natural to say it like uh-la-tree-on. But in game the NPCs say it like ah-lah-tray-on.

I've used nothing but elemental, but since I'm playing with randoms I never hit the threshold, or if we do I spam like 60 mega pots and they all still faint 20 minutes in.

Agreed on him being easier in Solo, but he's still too damn aggressive at times, and you are really screwed for his damage checks depending on how lucky you get with his move set.

Alatreon's skin is made entirely of reverse scales, making them extremely common. I might get some hate for this. But I actually really like Escaton judgement being the supermove. It finally, Finally truly encaptures the raw power of a Black dragon. It's do.or die sure but that's kind of the point going up against this monster from a lore perspective. Gameplay wise it's annoying but lore and story wise. No creature should be able to survive it at all. So it works in my book
I agree with you, the fight is definitely lore-accurate, and escaton judgement is actually pretty simple to cancel once you know what to do, and have an effective build
Honestly. The fact that Alatreon is so fun is such a bonus. But yeah. Lore wise this would be the power displayed by a Black Dragon. And with what we know of Fatalis. Oh lord if he came to world. I expect to see several do or die moments like Escaton judgement from the God of all Monsters.

If you complete Both Event quests (Evening Star and Dawn of the Death Star) 3:th Fleet commander comes and tells us that few people had arrived and told her to burn research notes on Alatreon before leaving, not giving any answers as to who they are. Of course she didn't, but who are they, how long this way of thinking has lasted and is there group of humans and/or Wyvernians who want to erase all information on Black Dragons?
This kind of ideology has existed on our world, in past as people sought to burn books and destroying evidence of something they did not like. One of best example is when Emperor Qin Shi Huang of ancient China, sought to erase all history before his time in order to history to start from him, luckily he failed to do so completely but still we lost huge number of information about Chinas history.
As much as I love Alatreon I just can’t with that Escaton Judgement I cant even heal in time and I don’t really like doing multiplayer if I can help it. Also what would be the best elemental weapon to use.
If fire active at the start use ice element to weaken escaton judgement, do your best to save a temporal mantle for the dragon active state so flinch shotting for easier horn access isn’t a much of a pain, once the horn is broken focus on keeping your health as high as you can in prep for escaton (just save some healing items for later (or better make sure to bring potion+mega potion ingredients) and repeat the whole process, if he starts ice active the same prices applies just switch the ice weapon for a fire weapon (sorry if this was too wordy)
You and your whole team need to ATtaCk the absolute Shit out of it with a 600+ Ice or Dragon or Water elemental Weapon...
Take some advice from another lad who solo this monster (still cant beat him in team trying to help a friend, but otherwise its a consistent win), personally, use saffi armor if you can due to large ele boost, try to get max ele attack skill (ice/dragon/fire attack etc). After that, dual blades and lbg do really well (i use dual blade) but other weapons also do well (depends on what works for you)

Blight Resistance 3
Elemental attack 6
And a vitality mantle
Everything else is completely up to you
Try and get like 500 elemental at the least for your weapon and you'll do fine
When he judgements if you've knocked him down once, put on a vitality mantle, and eat an astera jerky the moment it breaks the mantle and starts eating at your health and you'll live.
Rinse and repeat

Lunastra Styx HBG has the skill Guts built in & 20% affinity AND it can shoot Fire and Ice ammo recoil 1 with fast reload AND it can still use a shield.
Combine this with full Safi Armor; you can hit 100% affinity with Crit boost 3 AAAAAANNNNDDDDD you can use the Guard 5 charm with elemental decos to include level 6 ice or fire and level 4 of the other element (but use 1 level 4 deco to push that level 4 element to level 6). As long as you have two Crit Eye lvl 4 decos you can fit everything and still have room for a fortify and guard up deco to add some "quality of life" skills
After 1 dozen successful Alatreon hunts this setup is definitely comfortable and reliable: sure. The Alatreon LBG is AMAZING for this fight but this tip is for anyone who wants a shield or an alternative that doesn't require a weapon they can only craft after fighting it

Outside of the dps check for Escaton Judgement, the fight itself is really great

Hands down my favorite fight in the game. Its attacks are hit damn hard but are so well telegraphed. They're a spectacle to behold and its OST is amazing. Even with the elemental damage check to reduce damage of EJ, I have to say this is the best and the most fair fight they've put into Iceborne. 10/10
