Sweet job on a scarce Disston’ Saw. The model 12 was their fanciest. I just picked up a 12. Handle in excellent no cracks-shape. Missing 2 brass nut/screws. The Medallion dates it to 1870/80s. My plate is rougher than yours though. Maybe leave it as display-or do light clean up & find few replacement nuts/washer.

I wish I could work that fast, I am still looking for another bottle of " elbow grease " and the last time I used it, I had a job to drink it. if anything it slowed me down.

Now, this saw is worth restoration, notice the handle angle, it's down the cutting edge, later saws handle angle goes down the back of the saw, making it very hard to actually saw something, try an older saw with this type of handle, and you'll be looking for one, it's a different world.

Nice work! I love how you kept the patina on the old tote.
I use a tapered scratch awl to align the holes in the tote and the plate. Helps set the saw bolts.
What did you use for the finish? There was a cream or oil and then a wax?

Very nice restoration, I have several I need to restore, what were the products you used on the blade and handle?

Mineral spirits and a Scotch Brite pad on the saw plate to clean and derust. If it's really rusty, Evaporust soaked towels wrapped on the plate and covered with plastic wrap, and leave it for a few hours or overnight. Then I lubricated with oil and wet sanded to 1200. On the handle mineral spirits and fine steel wool to clean. To finish, I think I used Danish oil on this one, but l I've used BLO and wax on others
