Thanks for sharing! You know when I was a teenager, many of my friends would buy cars then spend all their time fixing them up. Now, like you, I'm retaired and it seams folks our age spends there time fixing up presses.

I had to replumb the air on the 50 ton press at work and that's one thing we all wish we had done afterward was a foot pedal. Good call on adding one.

I am searching that kind of video to how to make hand press in foot pedal.
    you are perfect person!
    Good job!
    Thanks!

these is a much simpler way to pipe the air supply, first, you use a 3 way foot valve, , you pipe the jack pneumatic input to the " in" port of the foot valve, then, you pipe the constant air input to the " cyl" foot valve output finally, you pipe the hand valve controlled air input to the " exh" port of the foot valve.
You can tie the constant air supply to the hand valve constant air supply with a standard tee.
    good video.

I've had my 20 ton press for about 6 months and I really like it. The pneumatic upgrade is on my bucket list and the foot pedal is a definite! Hopefully my drill press will forgive me because I've been planning a foot switch for it for years!

I have never thought about adding a foot switch to my press but I will be doing this soon. Thanks Lee.

I did this a week ago. I bought several pedals to add inline to any pneumatic tool to be hands free. Example sand blaster cabinet, bevel tool, sander, chip pusher, water tank pump. Like you said, now I have use of both hands . Just a six foot pig tail, can be added inline anywhere.

Not elementary at all. I thought it was brilliant. 👍👍👍🇦🇺
Picked up my used 20 tonne Harbor Freight press this morning, so ready to get started modifying it to be totally awesome utilising every good idea I can find in TH-cam videos on the subject.
Hopefully when I’m done it will be far better than any other commercially available press out there at a fraction of the cost.
This idea will definitely be getting included.
Thanks again, really enjoy your presentations. 👍

Back to the welding table years ago I installed a receiver tube at 90’ degrees on the table so that you can hold larger stock at odd angles with your swivel vice. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Good to see an example of brand for the foot switch. For myself I would reverse your hand switch lead so that the valve is actually down at work level facilitating keeping your eye on the balancing act that pressing always seems to be as well as having the valve in eye range when you reach for it. Been meaning to add one to my press for quite some time. Nice thing about a receiver on your vise is you can take it out in the yard and drop it into your trucks receiver for those long awkward jobs as well.

I didn’t read all the comments so maybe someone already asked but are you sure that is a Festo 8984? That foot switch says it uses a G1/4 thread which does not work with a 1/4” NPT nipple. It also has a third port which is an exhaust which would allow air from the hand switch to escape through the foot switch rather than go into the air over hydraulic pump. Maybe that is why the hand switch moved the press so slowly after the foot pedal install?

Fantastic Lee. I really do appreciate the replies you made to the comments on the vice video. Thanks for sharing those with us. If people only knew what extra time is needed to produce the videos. I have a hard time completing projects with just my neighbors coming by to shoot the breeze. I can imagine the interruptions that are made by recording everything.

There's Foot switches and valves as fairly standard stuff but occasionally creating a Knee, Hula, Elbow, or Forehead Control, to name a few, can be a useful option. Our local sampling of wives immediately selected Hula Switches as the hippest operator of the bunch. A far amount of adjustability helps ensure better lunches too.
Caution: wives and media blasters can become galled together.

That does make the press a lot more versatile. I would love to have air or something to pump my jack but I don't think I ever will. I always bleed when I work although I mostly do it from cuts. I cannot prove it but I think our skin gets thinner as we age. Thanks for the video.

That foot pedal seems pretty sweet seems to move much quicker I've got an air jack on my cherry picker and it's nice but not much faster than hand pumping which isn't bad on a hoist but would get irritating on a press that pedal seems like the way to go 👍👍👍

Looks good but thinking about the amount of hoses hanging about I think I would only use 1 valve, the foot pedal, attached to some magnets so the valve could be used as both hand and foot peddle, for hand stick it to the side or top with the magnets wherever is most handy and the for foot peddle put it on the floor. Saves having an octopus of pipes hanging around and much less joints to check for leaks. You might need to adjust the spring on the foot peddle for easier hand operation though.

Great Idea to have both. I was probably just going to use the foot control. Now I will run both.
Do you plan to put a hand (boat) winch to raise and lower the table?

thanks lee I would like to suggest when using Teflon tape to turn the roll around {backwards} then roll onto threads you will be able to put a little tension on the tape and hold it tighter to the threads for a way better wrap try it I guarantee you will like it thanks for all you do, now how can we put a pressure gauge on are air over hydraulic press that isn't overcomplicated hey?

    • @dannywilsher4165
      @dannywilsher4165 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I was going to suggest the same thing. I see lots of people on yt putting Teflon tape on and they make it seem so awkward. I was going to make a video explaining how to do it but never got around to it.....

  • @AerialLensVideo
    @AerialLensVideo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

That is nice - Thanks for the video!
The air motor part of my 20 Ton HF press gave out about a year ago (bottle is fine since hand operation works well), and have had the dang thing apart to see what's up, and cleaned and refreshed fluid, etc. Seals are fine and it does not leak or have any blockage anywhere. The supplied air pressure from 80 to 110 is fine. Verdict, NO CLUE - sort of an air motor boat anchor or paper weight. I may try to see if I can bypass that and use my little 20 pound air over hydraulic motor made for a punch press.
Wish I could fix that part, and no way will I drop 99 clams for another one. Any idea what goes bad with the "air motor" part??

Nice upgrade on your press. I have a helpful tip on removing your line from the air assist early in your video. Facing your air assist as you are in the video you installed a wrench on the air fitting body at the twelve o’clock position, then install your second wrench at the one o’clock position. This way you can use just one hand to squeeze both wrench’s together loosening the airline from the air assist body. This method is way easier than the painfully awkward position in your video. However you intern where successful in getting the air line removed. I like your magnetic drifts. Did you purchase them or make them? If you made them would you be willing to make me a set that I could purchase from you? Thanks for the video!

not sure why you needed the hand valve, or the disconnects. if I were to use both the foot pedal and hand valve, they would have no disconnects between them to keep it all nice and tight. lst T's and I would have plumbed to your source using a single hose too the disconnect, and it would have had the filter, and T to the 2 valves.
That foot pedal is a game changer, mount it to a piece of wood or metal on the bottom of the frame.. keep it out of the drop path.
I made my own bench top press, and it's the most used tool in the shop. I find so many uses for it.
Do I need bigger... of course. Haven't decided to make a bigger one yet. If I do, it will have a sliding ram.

Those hand valves are restricted for safety reasons due to them also being used for air blowers. They can be modified.

If I had to guess, you will never use the hand control again. The foot pedal frees up both of your hands to do final alignments as the press descends, which is the number one reason you always have to let up on the hand control isn’t it? Excellent idea.
