    Dear J.C. Smith projects family
    👍👌👏 Very well done again and as always (video and work). It seems the same all over the world nowadays. Not much decency left in this world. Nearly nobody is interested in doing good service. Maybe because employees get paid either way. In Germany it's called Dienstleistungswüste = service desert for a long time already. It gets worse every year. Nearly nobody feels responsible or will be punished because he is/was responsible.
    Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
    Best regards luck and health.

    At least we got an education by seeing the PTO disassembled.

      very simple design. not difficult to manipulate at all.

    that's sucks with the PTO, but it's all too common today. very frustrating when there is a standard code system for a configuration and the parts guys don't get it. I'm with you on the snap ring pliers, I've yet to see an interchangeable tip one that works worth a crap. I use the snap on ones that do in and out rings, 12 piece set. expensive but about every size and angle I have ever needed with the exception of the real big one that occasionally gets used. all the knipex stuff I have used has been good as well. good to see you made the PTO work.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i like knipex tools. i havnt found anything they make that is not top notch yet. the pto is back together. very simple design. easy to take apart and reconfigure.

  • @lakesideranch
    @lakesideranch 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You certainly had the day from hell with that hydraulic shop J.C.
    As you stated, it's too bad the guys who do this all the time can't get it right, so you have to reconfigure the NEW parts that they ordered wrong SHEESH
    Great explanation on the inner workings of the PTO brother, well done.
    I agree with your assessment, those NAPA snap ring pliers look like junk with that ratchet mechanism.....
    Have a good weekend my friend, we'll talk soon !!

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      we all mess up here and there....but this was frustrating. thankfully it was very simple to take apart and reconfigure. the ratchet system in thoose snap ring pliers made me want to throw them away. i will hand them off to brandon. if you have none....they work great....if you have great ones....you want none of those.

    This is the problem with having "retail" assistants working behind "trade" counters. Where I work we have engineers who repair machines everyday pitching in and serving customers who come over the counter for parts or repairs, we can relate to our customers on a much better level, we understand what people are asking for, we understand how machines work and the ins and outs of what our customers ask for, not like other places where all they know how to do is fetch a part number talk the talk and act as if they know what they're doing, when it's clear these people have never got their hands dirty. I have this exact same problem almost every single time I go to a parts store Jc, it's a nightmare I can really relate!

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think the man knows his job but failed to give the part number the attention it needed. i cringe when i have to rely on someone else for anything....i normally look up my own part number for just this reason.

    You are not having much luck JC. At least you sorted the PTO out yourself which I would have done. You would of thought that the place you got it from would have sent someone to pick it up or change it around at yours. All there fault and they still wanted you to pay for there mistake. Not got Business really on there part. Looking good now and I think the battery box etc would look good under the step and a 48 inch tool box would come in very handy. Is there room to put one the other side?

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andy Ball unfortunately that is how many business' operate here today. I got it working so I could move on. It was very simple to do. There is room for a toolbox on the other side

    As you have no doubt found out by now, input and outlet on a hydraulic pump is not simply a matter of determining pump rotation and hooking up hoses accordingly. Most gear pumps utilize wear plates on the ends of the gears, and these plates have channels on the backside that drain the oil that gets around the shafts to the suction side of the pump, thereby keeping output pressure off the shaft sealing components. These channels must be oriented to reflect the selected direction of rotation, and are, in fact, a critical part of setting up a hydraulic application, and the reason for the rotation indication on the pump as delivered.

    Wait... The Muncie distributor is in Columbus if the people that sold that screwed up or Muncie screwed up they could have shipped you the correct one and had it next day, if the seller was worth there salt! Make sure you get the proper inlet and out let for the rotation of your pump .Remember the oil goes around the outside of the gears not between.

    Too bad about the parts troubles. I feel your pain. FYI, according to an actual German guy on another channel I sometimes watch, the K in Knipex is pronounced, not silent.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      you know what they say....if it was easy, everybody would do it. so when i met with the reps from knipex at the mid america trucking show they were pronouncing it wrong.....priceless!

    • @cranki6316
      @cranki6316 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Americans are used to a k before an n being silent, but you'd think the reps would pronounce the name of the brand paying the bills correctly. That guy had good things to say about Knipex tools, just like you.

    I don't even believe they ordered this wrong. I bet they had this unit on the parts shelf and wanted to dump it off on you.
    You live in Ohio and don't like to use antiseize?! I started wrenching in Wisconsin and now in Pennsylvania. I use antiseize and bearing grease everyday. I like to put a light coating of antiseize on some things and other things I like to use a light coating of of grease. The real question is; are you a little dab will do ya kinda guy or bigger the gob, the better the job kinda guy?

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      no... the box had the shipping label on it with the correct date on it. i do believe they ordered it. if they had it on the shelf, i think they would have just change the orientation and gave it to me right then. i didnt say i dont use neverseize...i use it on certain things and use grease on other things.

    It's hard to know whether it was the person on the desk who got it wrong or a mechanic in their shop who put it together wrong after a heavy night out. Mistakes happen, what makes the difference is if the person at the shop seemed to give a damn. The "well, it's your part so it's your problem" attitude just doesn't cut it and it's a very good way to make sure you never get repeat custom. Without repeat custom most businesses are dead and just waiting to get buried. It never hurts to treat your customers right and doing that rarely costs the business more than pennies against hundreds or thousands of dollars repeat business. I don't imagine this rabble will be getting any repeat business from you, needless to say...

    Looking for some advice. I’m wanting to get a small dump truck to use around my place to haul dirt and gravel. I have been looking at 1 1/4 ton trucks, mainly Ford F450/550. Is it feasible to buy a cab chassis and put a dumper on or should I look for a complete dump truck? Budget is $10K or less.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      around me, you can find an older dump truck that size in decent condition for that amount. just depends on how nice you want it. a new dump bed for one of those trucks gonna cost almost as much as your budget. the one im building right now in my latest video series is getting a new bed. prices for beds are really up there. i am going to build another dump truck right after this one.

    this younger generation don't care what they send out it's what's easiest for them it is absolutely ridiculous that they would want to charge you shipping both ways for a mistake they made originally I would find another company to do business with that is more reputable and professional and hold himself accountable and who are willing to hold themselves responsible for their own mistakes and not Lie and pass them onto me the customer who trusted them in the first place!

    There is nothing more infuriating than dealing with other people's errors which they will never admit to and their total incompetence. How these companies stay in business i well never know. What happened to "I am sorry sir that is our error please return it to us and we will get it replaced free of charge and due to the distance you have to travel we are prepared to offer you a discount of $ ***"
    Businesses this day and age suck. Hope tomorrow is better for you

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i agree. back in the days of being an electrician....i gave an older widowed lady a price for some work....i had accidentally left out a part that she had asked me to include. i felt it was my mistake and i did the work at no cost to her. her son called me because she was upset that she didnt pay me for the work. i explained that it was my error and i thought it was my responsibility to stick to my word. she had another company come in and give her a quote on the work i had done for her at no charge. she had her son drive her to my place and she would not leave until i took the money.
      i was so impressed by this woman and her values. i had remembered that she had mentioned when i was there the first time quoting the work that her taxes had just went up again and she was frustrated about the amount. so i took that money and went to the tax office and paid that money on her property taxes. i never told her but, she knew it was me who paid it. i plowed her driveway every time it snowed from then until she passed away 7 years later. she would come out and try to pay me and i refused of course.....so she would bake me and my family cookies and always had a batch ready for me...which i graciously accepted.

    • @jlletaw1954
      @jlletaw1954 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      J.C. SMITH PROJECTS me too, they look good on a black frame with aluminum wheels...but dump trucks don't always run the freeways & have to go off road/job site, soft ground, sink down some & that puts the fuel tank closer to the surface & stuff laying around in the weeds you don't always see...& l think aluminum will puncture quicker than steel (my opinion)

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i agree. aluminum is easier to puncture. i only use a dump truck for my own personal use so i rarely go to unknown places....the steel is better for this project. this is suppose to be a cheap budget build anyway.

    My PTO is not getting any kinda air or power to my Muncie switch next to my seat it was just working fine the day before yesterday an now this morn won't do shit I checked I have no air going to PTO under truck so I no gears are ok please help if u can

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      check air supply coming into the switch next to your seat.if no air coming in, trace the line back to the tank or regulator and inspect it. if you have air in, check if there is air coming out when the lever on the valve is engaged. if not replace the valve.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      most of the medium duty trucks with automatics have provisions for a pto. many fleet companies (penske, ryder, uhaul, budget) order their automatics without the pto provision to save money.

    Found it! #4....By you reconfiguring the gears you affected your warranty? .......Insufficient product deliveries....pervasive and everywhere. From food to sports, fashion etc. Required knowledge is gone. Company reputation and the drive for company's future profits via the employee fell off of the earth. Practically, everyone is guessing now days. Guessing you might accept what they deliver. The good news....guys like you will be busy with the 1% and you'll be a go to person. Why? Smaller percentage of people will seek out competence and pay for it. We have traveled back in time to, SLOWER, turn-over time because you have to do-over a straight forward request. Don't you love it when they say, " can I help you?". They look directly at you as you give the request, and then they ask you to repeat what you said because they weren't listening. Then they give you the wrong order.

    How much is a pto pump ?

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      those are 2 different things...pto or power take off and the hydraulic pump. the prices vary on transmission it is is used on, style and, pressure and volume of the pump.
