    having access to the right fittings makes it easy. I'm fortunate in that a block from the shop is a potato harvesting equipment dealer with a good selection of fittings and hose ends.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      that is very true. our local hydraulics shop has pipe, jic, and few others. most everything is special ordered. every time i need hoses made for the gradall it is a day or two to get the fittings. there are 3 shops about an hour from me and rarely do any of them have what i need.

    Fine looking dump truck J.C.
    Your hours of work show in the fit and finish, a great work truck for sure.
    The interior came back to original condition thanks to Mrs J.C. Awesome to see a used ride re-purposed with a good bit of love..
    2 thumbs up from here !!

      i am happy with the end result. especially from what it started out as. it runs and drives great. it will let me get those important drops done just in time. she never ceases to amaze me with her cleaning abilities. this truck was filthy inside. i bought it for parts....it was never meant to be a driver. yet she got it back to neat and clean...the best part is she really enjoys doing it! she could do without all the tool fetching tho!

    The way you like your trucks to appear, reminds me of the milk trucks around here. The stainless steel milk tank is always shining and the cab (or tractor if the tank is a trailer) is nice looking too, not dusty or messy. I imagine the tanks are spotless by law, but you just feel good seeing that your milk is in a clean tank.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i bought a used 2750 gallon milk truck to haul water with. it is just like you are describing...polished, neat and clean. it is way too nice for what i use it for. my tank has to be inspected every year by the health department in order to keep it certified

    it's common everywhere. I generally use a pipe to jic adapter, and then hoses with jic female swivels at the ends. pretty much eliminates the endless seeping that occurs with pipe thread. crap pipe fittings only compound problems.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      two of the four hose ends have swivels with pipe thread. the other ends are pipe thread. i could see in a commercial vehicle how those fittings would far superior. i dont like using adapters or reducers when the proper hose will eliminate it all...the less connections, the less problems.

    the area you live in seems to make a big difference. there is lots of agricultural, quite a bit of trucking and a fair amount of logging in my area. our Napa and o reily stores are pretty decent for that sort of stuff as well. it's pretty crazy with all the different possible fittings out there.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      we are out in the country. some of the shops in my area have gone to a minimal inventory since they can have whatever they need in a day or so. not my ideal way of doing business...luckily for me, i usually can wait without too much of a hardship.

  • @stevemarriott9755
    @stevemarriott9755 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well she is sure a good looking dump truck. Not cheap as you wanted and certainly not that quick, however ready for work and then ready for the next line of duty when you get the other truck back and you can relax knowing that everything has been done properly and to your standard. Those wheels have come up looking good from the distance you held the camera at !!!
    So what is the next exciting project that we wait for with bated breath? There are plenty I know but which has won the lucky ticket

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i ended up $1100 over budget but i think it is well worth the extra cost. right and safe is what i always want. i am thinking he will have that truck for some time. those wheels are what i call "summer wheels".... "sum" parts look good and "sum" do not. they will be fine for what i will do with the truck. especially for the limited amount of miles it will go. i have chrome front and rear axle hub covers and chrome lug not covers coming.
      tomorrow i am making a trip to visit a family member who is not doing well. the day after we return, i am going to take a few hours to paint the f250 dually frame so that it can cure while i get back to the f150 project. i would really like to have that f150 finished up so i can quit driving this navigator.

    The truck looks great and you're so right about the piddly stuff taking so much time.
    JC If you get your hands on a decent air tank they make a good little pressurized sand blaster, I used one about the size you put on your Dump truck and put it on a cheap two wheel dolly with with two large clamps a air hose and some pieces, some brass ball vales a sand blaster nozzle, a pressure gauge, some odd bits to fit it all together and it works great, it's small and easy to get around.
    I've heard of guys that needs to to do larger jobs using propane tanks but they have to clean the tanks and weld in fittings. In the air tank I just used the available holes it's a little small for putting sand in but not bad at all. I've never had a large job I did from the axle back under one of my cars once that took about a tank and a half of black beauty and maybe an hour or two that's about the most I've used it for at once so far.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      some times it is the details that take a long time but it is also the details that sometimes make the difference in a reliable truck and a problematic truck. i have heard of guys taking the really old water heater tanks and doing that. i suppose i will invest in one some day. it sure would make some things a lot easier and nicer.

    Can you comment on the quality of steel and rust protection quality of newer internationals vs older pre 2000 internationals. I find it that the older trucks are most of the time in much better shape than the newer ones, in regards to rust and quality.
    Jc what do you think?

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      rust protection? more light the lack of. it doesnt matter what we talk about. trucks, trailers, equipment or??? the quality and longevity of the product seems to have a built in expiration date. too many business' are more interested in selling a higher number of products than selling a quality product

    truck turned out nice. I cringe at some of the hydraulic plumbing I see. those galvanized fittings are crap for Hydraulics, should be forged fittings. permatex hydraulic and pneumatic thread sealer is the best I have seen for fittings that see heat and cold along with vibration. looks like it would be a fairly easy conversion to a single axle tractor. now that the work is done, more work can start.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you wont believe how often those fittings are used in this area. i think if i was building this truck new i would have ordered a reservoir with the correct bungs welded in place and used the correct hose ends so there would be no need for any other fittings....but that would be a perfect world right there. i used the last dump truck maybe 10 times in a year. i think it will do ok for what i will use it for. now on to the next one!

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i had the dump bed from my old dump truck. i bought the pto, hydraulic pump and had the drive shaft cut and balanced. i think i had about $1300 in all that. i also did some other repairs to the truck at the same time so i spent more than that on the project.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      space between the box and the cab is just right for my liking on a single axle dump. i have never needed a steeper angle with this dump bed. i didnt change anything on the sub assembly or the dump angle. it has always worked well.

    @BobPegram 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lookin' good J.C.! Did you say what you did with the truck, the bed was formerly on? It's on some lighter (weight) duty job for you or whoever has it now. What weight will this International be able to carry? Somehow, with all that tar and paint and replacement parts, I don't think it will be a parts truck again for quite a while.
    While I'm writing, is the 2004 F 150 up next?

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the truck this bed was on had a gvwr of under 26,000lbs is now being used to pull a friend of mine's gooseneck trailer. this truck has a gvwr of 32,000 lbs. once i pull the bed off to blast and paint it, this truck will likely be used to pull my step deck trailer and the newly painted bed will go on a 2007 international 4300 i bought the day after i bought the crew cab with the crane on it. yes the f150 is on deck next.....but i am going to take a few hours to paint the f250 dually frame before i start back on the f150. that way the paint can cure while i work on the f150.
