  • BG 44K compared to Marvel Mystery Oil and Seafoam? Hope you enjoy the video!
    From their website: "BG 44K® is 11 ounces of high quality detergents and additives that you pour right into the gas tank to restore performance and gas mileage. It vanquishes deposits in combustion chambers, intake manifolds, ports and on valves and restores flow in fuel injectors. Basically, it cleans the entire fuel system!"

    I am a retired auto technician of 44 years on the job and have used many chemicals through out my career with so many different results. I like the Seafoam and it is priced right and does a good job. The BG K44 does an excellent job of cleaning the fuel injectors and oxygen sensors, and these results are proven on our high end equipment. In automotive we do not have a problem with carbon build up like the old days.

    BG 44k in my experience works amazingly concerning dirty carbs, it has a great ability to clean jets and needle seats from ethanol corrosion and damage. I’ve poured a whole can into 1/2 a tank of gas in a Honda CB that had clogged pilot jets and later that day it would idle on its own with no other carb adjustments.

    I have used MMO in my old cars that I have had over the years because of their not so perfect engines. 50 ford Flathead, 55 Buick, 66 Falcon 6 and 52 Cadillac. They helped to keep the combustion chambers clean and helped me from getting valve seat recession from lack of lead in the gas. I didn't think it would be necessary on my modern Mazda skyactive. I tried it and drove the same 50 miles to work I always drive which is country and city driving. The week without was 36 MPG on the cars computer. The week after I started using it it started averaging 38.2 as listed on the engine computer. The engine was also remarkably smoother after that two week test. I mixed it 6 ounces for the 15 gallon tank. MMO works great!

      Propane/lpg burns cooler and leaves no hydrocarbon deposits. Since it runs cooler it really wouldn't clean well. But if an engine has always run on lpg it will be spotless.

    I understand that you'd like to branch out into other things, but I really enjoy your channel as someone who tests engines and chemicals. You're in a really cool little niche compared to all the people who just break tools and call it a productive channel. I don't really care which drill wins in a tug of war, I'll buy the best value I can for the money I have at the time. Your channel is really good for that since you test things that are priced similarly and you also go into all the detail you can about what variables were at play and what might have skewed results. That honesty is neat to see.
    I wouldn't hate seeing some 2 stroke motor stuff here though, it fits your theme and I'm sure there's plenty of myths floating around that you could torture those poor engines with.

    You had the right idea running it through the intake. BG has a atomizer fitting that sprays into the throttle body, that connects to the pressurized cylinder that is also used to run the injector cleaner. When I use to service cars, I'd clean the throttle body, the run the 44k. Then after it set for about 15 minutes I'd use the injector cleaner. Always worked really good well and sometimes to the point of actually being able to tell a difference afterwards in the way it ran backed up by data readings. I don't know if the still make it, but GM use to have something called top engine cleaner and it worked pretty good as well. You ran it through the intake eventually stalling the engine and let it set for a while then restart.

    Great Videos! I've spent way more time watching them than I would like to admit but at least I feel just a little bit smarter after every one of them! I know you get tons of suggestions on videos but one I would like to see is Seafoam vs. some of its cheaper "generic" versions such as SuperTech motor treatment, Harvest King motor treatment, etc. Just looking at sticker price Seafoam seems to range from $7-$12 per can and some of the other alternatives that are sitting on the shelf next to it at Walmart or wherever are usually around $5 for the same size bottle that looks similar but with a different logo. Is it the same stuff but re-branded? or is it less effective than the expensive stuff? Would like to hear your thoughts but most of all, keep up the great work!

Long time ago I had many problems with my outboard boat engine, a very seasoned individual told me to use seafoam very liberally, and then soak my pistons with deep creep, which has now become seafoam spray,, my engine went from zero to hero, But I removed the spark plugs and soaked the Pistons and let that sit for three days, from that point on my engine started every time with the first turn of the key… Initial start up the engine smoked for nearly a half an hour… And I mean heavy

    • @0xsergy
      @0xsergy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@POOKIE5592 except it does. look up the test ProjectFarm did. the e3 and the Pulstar plugs ran a generator on a set amount of fuel for longer than NGK and NGK iridium. Problem is apparently e3 giant heads like to heat up and explode in engines so I wouldn't use it, Pulstars are a bit pricey for the ~2% fuel economy improvement.(45 min with NGK plug, 46.5min with the e3 and pulstar in the generator test). Keep in mind that the angle of the spark and a ton of other factors can make a difference to how completely the fuel combusts with various plugs. hell, just making the plug(i think its called indexing?) face the right direction in the motor can make a considerable difference due to the direction the 'explosion' travels.

      E3 is junk. Never seen anything with them in it stay running for very long before you end up taking them out and putting OEM plugs back in whether it's a lawn mower or a car. You won't ever make a noticeable gain by changing spark plugs. The most important thing is to keep everything clean and do proper maintenance and use quality parts when you must replace something broken.

    BG 44K was designed to clean olefins off the back of the intake valve to allow better heat transfer for proper fuel atomization in fuel injected engines. It also cleans the injectors for better spray pattern. It usually takes a day or so for better soak time. Using it in a carbureted engine is a waste of good product.
    Bell chemical makes a product that was marketed as combustion chamber cleaner and sold to dealerships as top end cleaner. It was ammonia based and contained 70% water that you sprayed directly into the carb. That was a fantastic product.

    I've run BG44K as a fuel additive a number of times - it's the only one I trust to run in my car. When it was first introduced to me back in 2009 by an old mechanic, it was spun as sort of a "Super Techron", and that it would help clear out carbon buildup over the tank of gas. I paid $30 for the can of BG44k, which I thought would be snake oil, but I figured, meh, I have nothing to lose. It was absolutely fantastic, actually. After 100 miles, the car was running much more smoothly, felt like it has regained 20-40 lost horsepower (out of 350 that were supposed to be there). Power felt more linear, improved power delivery, everything. After 250 miles, I didn't notice any further improvement. Even so, I've gotten into the habit of using BG44K every 50,000 miles... I love the stuff. And it's the only stuff I trust to put into my Mercedes E55 AMG... I wouldn't dream of Seafoaming an AMG...

    Bg 44k is a fuel injector cleaner. Its meant to clean injectors not the combustion chamber. I believe bg has another product called epr that is meant for combustion chamber cleaning. I like your videos but this one missed the mark on what this product is intended for. I would have liked to see what 44k did for a fuel injector with a bad spray pattern or if it stabilized fuel or helped with water in fuel. Or test Bg EPR against sea foam on combustion chamber cleaning.

      BG 44K has always claimed to be a combustion chamber cleaner, among other things it does for the fuel system. The key is what is not listed in the MSDS, which historically has been polyether amine (fuel detergent)

    • @obeymycar1315
      @obeymycar1315 4 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      44K is for the combustion chamber, and any where it can reach. If it stays active in the exhaust it will clean the Cat. This test is wrong, it needs to be under heat and pressure. We have been using 44K, ( now platinum ) for 35 years. The Poly ether Amine is so much more concentrated in this product, no else can touch it. The EPR is an oil product. It works from the Piston rings down only. The magic of it is restoring the rings to normal ,lowering blowby, raising compressing, and making the fuel control matrix better. I have before and after on real engines, not lwan mowers. This stuff is amazing. Sea Foam, its OK.
