Where is your favorite place to record a video? Indoors or out? Daytime or night? If you haven't started yet, is "where to record" part of the reason you haven't?
I've been getting out and away from my home studio making videos, and it's been so refreshing and getting my creative juices flowing.
I also found that the random bits and pieces of video I get when out and about may one day be some good b roll.
Thanks for the encouraging video 👍🏾
You're absolutely right! Best of luck to you! :-)
First one here. Thanks for making this kind of video. I know hard for stage fright. Hitting that record button. It's scary. Once posted it's there out of the bag.
Exactly :-) Thanks for watching!
I didn't realize how much of a difference location/scenery can make. I have had a couple of folks reach out to me letting me know they enjoyed the scenery in my videos. My journey has just begun, and the handful of videos I have made, were filmed around my farm/local area. This was not intentional, the projects I was working on, happened to be in different locations, and it just worked out that way. I will definitely be aware of this now and try to keep incorporating different filming locales in my videos. Incidentally, you live in a beautiful area. This scenery in this video and your last video, (I believe you said Black Point, Nova Scotia), is unreal, looks like a post card.
Thank You again for sharing more valuable tools for creators!
Sometimes people take for granted the place in which they live... simply because they're used to it. But if people are watching your videos from all over the world, there will be people who aren't used to seeing your scenery and to them it's really cool to see! Best of luck to you :-)
Yet another solid piece of advice Rob. Your videos inspire me and I’m getting some practice in talking to my camera and editing video. Not quite ready for a “prime time TH-cam debut” but I’m getting there. Keep the content coming! We are learning a lot from you. Thanks!
Good for you! Keep up the practice, but know this... when you do finally decide to post a video, I promise you'll wish you had posted sooner ;-) I don't want to be pushy... just maybe giving you a little extra nudge lol! Good luck with it and enjoy! You can do this :-)
@@RobtheMaritimerthanks for the kind and prompt reply! Happy Holidays to you and yours from south Louisiana!
Rob, you really have nailed it from my perspective. Yup, you just got to hit record. I waited and waited with fear of failure and here I am , 9 days in and realising I wasted so much time.
Love recording outdoors as that really is my niche.
Keep inspiring us all and take care.
Thank you for the kind words... and best of luck to you!!
I like recording in the park or outdoors too, sometimes for privacy, as I'm not always on my own at home. It's just nice to be in a different location 😀
I totally agree!
Many years ago, before the days of everyone having a camera, we were living on our sailboat full-time. I frequently filmed my videos on a beach. Often I would attract an audience. Occasionally someone would walk up to me and ask me what I was doing. It's not a novelty today. 😊
Everyone has a camera today haha! It's not so strange seeing people recording something these days :-) Living on a boat sounds awesome!!
@@RobtheMaritimer full-time liveaboards for 9 years.
Beautiful setting!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thx again for the info Rob!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching :-)
I use my iPhone 14 with the selfie camera on cinematic, a cheap lightweight full-size tripod a bought at Walmart, so I can also get my thumbnail. Then a LarkSound lav mic. Maybe $100 into the setup. Worth pretty good.
And that's all you need... as you're proving with your videos/channel! Keep up the great work!
It started automatically in German ... and I had been surprised that this happened ... nice use of the multitrack feature
Yes it's pretty cool! All done automatically by TH-cam :-)
being prepared and having a plan is really helpful! If it's ready to go I can just press record. There is a lot of prep if you have not planned or prepared I feel like I'm not ready. but If my camera, mic, tripod, lights youtube studio is ready I can just start. Thanks Rob
Great points! Thanks for watching and best of luck with your channel :-)
Great advice, Rob. I will definitely do that when we get back to Sicily. What a beautiful backdrop you have - what a blessing. 😍 Thanks, Carol Amato
Thank you Carol and good luck back in Sicily!
Hi again from San Diego, Rob! You’ve definitely inspired me to push ‘record’ in the wild! I love sharing some of my beautiful surroundings with my audience too, especially now that it’s getting cold again in many parts of the Northern hemisphere.
Wishing you and your family happy holidays 🎄🥰✨❤️
Thank you so much! I loved your sailing video!! Great job on that... makes me want to get back out on the water... but have to wait for winter to pass before doing that up here in Nova Scotia lol! Cheers :-)
@@RobtheMaritimer thanks for your support and encouragement. Becoming a content creator has been such a welcome addition to my life. I'm so glad I followed through. 🙏😊💫✨
Thanks for the advice Rob. I just recorded my next video walking along a river side for the first time, thank you! I have sometimes delayed filming because I thought I didn't have the right room and light in my house.... now I'm going to walk outside to film! I love it, works for me 🙂❤
Awesome!! Good luck and have fun with it! :-)
thank you!
You're welcome!
thanks rob im really enjoing watching your tips love it
Thank you so much! I appreciate you :-)
Love the endorsement for different filming locations. EVERY one of my videos is filmed in a different location. :)
That's cool! Best of luck to you! :-)
Thanks, Rob! This is great. I have done videos in my van aka my Mobile Domicile, in parks while traveling, at home, and even at a relatives home after a family gathering. I like the idea of "just record"
You've got lots of different places to record... that's awesome :-)
Beautiful scenery behind you
Thanks, it's a great spot to shoot!
06:26 I really like your advice here. Great idea!
I'm glad it resonated with you! Good luck with your videos/channel :-)
Love your encouragement and tips
Thanks for watching :-)
I am so glad you didn't fall.
me too! lol
Interestingly, you and I created our channels on the same date. Now see where you are and I’ve not even gotten to 1k subscribers
Kudos to you! Nice video.
Good luck to you! :-)
@
Thank you!
Your channel has inspired me to keep making videos ‘naturally’ and consistently.
I’ve just watched your other video: how your channel grew to 24k subscribers in 4 months.
I’m inspired.
I’m heading outside today to film a couple videos. It’s a beautiful sunny day where I am. Cold, but beautiful nevertheless!
Sounds wonderful! Have fun with it!! :-)
@ That’s definitely the plan! Leaving out now. Had to let it warm up a bit cause it’s cold 🥶
The beaty of the coast of nova Scotia is really a great place to make video's.
I think so too and I know I'm very lucky to be where I am :) Thanks for watching :-)
Rob, I really enjoy your channel. Good stuff. Question: do you use a gimbal when you walk and record?
No I don't use a gimbal... the iPhone has built-in "Enhanced Stabilization" ever since their model 14 Pro Max (I used the 14 Pro Max in this video, but upgraded to the 16 Pro Max a month ago for my latest videos)... and it works quite well. I just have my phone on a small handheld tripod :-)
@ Thanks. I have the 14 Pro. It might be time to upgrade. :) I’m kind of tired of the lightening connector too. Thanks for the reply.
If using your iPhone outdoors are you using a different microphone or just using iPhone for sound?
I'm using the DJI Mic wireless as well. I made a video showing exactly how I make these videos: th-cam.com/video/laxfUFDftS8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3RnC80xB_v0P8l9N
0:06 Thumbnail 😀👍
Thanks for watching :-)
What category does your channel fall under and what is the RPM for that category? Thanks for the inspiration 🙏
I put my videos under "How To". The RPM varies widely from video to video... you can't equate an RPM to a category... it depends on the video. Perhaps I should make a video that discusses RPM in more detail :-)
Hello from Malaysia again! Rob, I notice the foreground is super sharp while the background is blurry. Are you using Cinematic mode on your iPhone? Thanks as ever and good job!
I am not using cinematic mode, just regular mode on the iPhone. I'm using the rear-facing camera (which is better), and not the selfie camera. The reason for some blurriness in the background is simply because the background is so much further away from me than the camera :-)
@@RobtheMaritimer thanks for the explanation. Can you do a video on the comparison between the rear facing camera and the selfie camera - just as a point of discussion? I think it'll generate an interesting dialogue in the comments section.
@@colebrookhouse Great idea 🙂
Rob how do I get that red subscribe button on lower right in my videos?
Click the Customize tab in the left menu of TH-cam Studio... you add it from there :-)
Rob are you VRA by chance? Just curious. I am and in a lot of your videos I hear the language 😄
I am not, no... but I have watched a lot of Sean Cannel's videos so maybe I've picked up on some of the lingo lol!
Where is this beautiful place?
Nova Scotia, Canada :-)
It must be getting awfully cold filming down by the water!
It's starting to! :-)
☑️☑️
Thanks for watching :-)
Today may be the record day, woke up with a nasty cough so we’ll see
You can do it!! Tell people you have a cold in your video... it's ok! You'll look back at it later and wonder why you even recorded it lol! But you should!! Good luck :-)
I climb a mountain, no one is ever there.
Sounds like a great place to record :-)
I like to take videos when exploring on my mountain bike ..or at work
That's great! Not everyone feels comfortable recording at work especially if there are other people around... and some people's work doesn't allow them to. If that's a location that works for you then great :-) And awesome that you have two different places to film! Best of luck with it :-)
I hope you get your heart checked on the regular.
Of course :-)
