I started one YT channel about a year ago that I told people about. I soon got tired of my friends and family, none of whom have successful YT channels, either giving me unsolicited advice about my content, or dumping on my dreams and telling me it's a waste of time. A few weeks ago I started a new channel (the one I'm commenting from here), and no one knows about it. I feel so much better having something that is entirely mine.
I created a YT channel during COVID time and was so excited to tell friends and family, feeling sure that they're going to support my channel. Lo and behold, I was WRONG! The ones I thought were my friends were the first ones to bash what I was doing... This channel that I just created this year, nobody knows about. I don't have a lot of subscribers yet (only 3 as of now), but that's okay.... I'm believing 'my' kind of people will find my channel, in time.
@@TheUrbanWitch1 This is where social media can help. If you build up a natural following (mostly not friends/family but people who like what you have to say) in one of those places, you can then steer those followers to the channel.
I didn't tell anyone in my family household only my close friends who are trusted but they seem not to like me to start one it's a shame to me be careful to whom you talk too. It's best not to tell, then more people will make you famous and get you to have popularity. I have more to say, sometimes people are going to tell you starting a TH-cam channel isn't going to let you be successful. Lastly, it will be a fun thing to do in life.
I shared with my family and they told me I was boring, yet I have videos with thousands of views. What someone finds boring another may enjoy! Don't let anyone who doesn't understand dim your light friends!
That's exactly how I feel when I talk to the camera... I try to think like a friend is walking with me and I just talk to them. I'm glad that shows in my videos, thank you so much :-)
I'm 92 hoping to make the leap to YT. YOU have an exceptionally generous, kind and friendly attitude that makes this challenge seem surmountable to me! Please know that you are a genuine influence to me (& others, I'm sure) because of your character & open heart. I truly appreciate all info & tips you share with me, as well as the care you put into acting as a step-by-step guide along my path to self-expression.👏
I never told any of my “friends” bc the first thing they would say is “stop wasting your time”. I’m surrounded by ppl who don’t follow their dreams or try new things and every year that goes by they are the exact same, I thrive by trying something new every year: whether try or fail but I can’t be in the same place every year or I feel like a failure.
It sounds like you're doing exactly what you should be... just let youtube do its work and only talk about your youtube channel with friends of they ask about it :)
Started my YT walking channel. Keeping the channel to yourself is the best advice one can give. Thanks to the algorithm for brining me here. I wish everyone the best of luck
The best advice I've heard in years! You are 100% correct. Don't tell anyone about your channel. When people discover it organically, your channel will improve in a natural way. Your friends, family, and people that don't even like you will just spy on your channel and not even make an effort to comment or like your video.
I had a channel and told everyone. Some would just like and not watch, some told me I was wasting time. My workplace didn’t want me to have a channel and would tell me to stop. I became too nervous. This is my second channel and I’m starting new content and keeping myself to myself, at least for a bit.
Don't give up ! Listen your intuition, there is adverb : eagle is flying , and crows were on his back , started to annoy eagle, but eagle didn't do nothing just started to fly higher and higher , and crows fell from eagle's back
People may feel jealous at some point, even if we get no views, i'm keeping my channel idea to myself, i'm getting no views at all but at least nobody that i know have a clue that i have a channel
Man this is so true.I'm a big believer of building in silence! Friends and family who are not interested in the content will mess up your retention numbers etc because they are being nosey or "supportive." Organic growth no matter how slow it takes is always best but man is it frustrating lol. Rob you might have the best scenery for walk and talk videos on TH-cam, I want to visit Nova Scotia now.
I agree with all of this...especially the amazing scenery ✨️ My channel growth might be considered "slow", but I'm loving the journey! I'm building relationships with such amazing people!
Today I reached 127k. I'm really grateful for all the knowledge and information you've given me over the past few months. I started with 19k in January.
I started my YT channel last year but not consistently posting. I will try my best to post consistently and to all small TH-cams out there, keep going! We got this! ✊🏻
I'm 62, I did it and I regret it because I had to explain things to a few friends, but on the other hand my video reached the top in less than 24 hours. Four days later I received a congrats from youtube for the 10 watch hours when I uploaded the second video. 🤭It's nice but I still do not have a community and it's what I'm looking for. You're doing a great job, Rob!
Hey @floralheart; Thanks for sharinng. I'm 63 and almost ready to upload my 3rd "real" video. Didn't see any videos but I subscribed to your channel. I imagine it can take awhile to get a good comunity going. I'll keep an eye out for your vids.
@ 🙏🙏 stealing peoples content and titles is also a mistake. Im not saying you in particular but the youtube easy mode gurus are telling people to rip off peoples content for views but what they aren’t telling you is it won’t last very long that method
I didn't. But when my videos went viral and views grew. They found my channel. It worked out better. By the i went viral. My format was way better. So they actually liked it. Instead of seeing my early video. Which were junk.
I’m happy I came across your video. I have YT channel but I haven’t posted anything yet maybe because of fear that the video may not be too good. Now after watching this video I will try it.
My wife and I both recently started our own separate TH-cam channels and were literally just having a conversation about this very topic! Thanks for your upload!
6 seconds in and my mindset is it doesn’t matter who you tell nobody cares. The more you get into it the more you learn feels like the more you’re learning another language and culture that nobody else can comprehend so it doesn’t matter what you tell them.
Usually I don't talk about my channel. I'm both proud and a little ashamed because I'm trying to speak the endangered language I grew up with. So the purpose of the channel is for me to practice speaking the language. If I get some viewers who appreciate what I do, that's a bonus.
I don't think that's anything to be ashamed of... it's admirable and something I'm sure people would want to know about! Best of luck to you and enjoy TH-cam!! :-)
This makes sense to not tell everyone about your channel. I had mine for years before anyone I knew or realized it. My immediate family knew and that was all. My channel has grown just on my efforts alone. Just this last year or so my wife shared my videos with close friends and I did get some more regular subscribers. I think "real growth" works the best. That is my take on it also that you may gain "fake" subscribers and it doesn't help grow the channel......Take care, Bluefin.
I started a hiking channel 6 months ago I’m 47 and it’s so much fun 😊I’m slowly getting better at making videos and couldn’t have asked for a better hobby!! Finding the right people to subscribe to your channel takes awhile but I have faith I will get there!
I'm small creator I haven't really been getting any views on my videos and I just came across your channel and your videos a really good it helped a lot thanks ❤❤❤❤
I hear this a lot and I learned first hand. If you want to be judged by folks that don't see your vision... share a link to family and friends. I suggest only sending them a link when you are actually earning either by commissions or being monetized. Everyone understands that part. Even still, you will get some side eyes lol.
I have had my channel for awhile. This is the second time time I have started loading again and I will not tell anyone. Good luck to all of us small channels
Born In Windsor, N.S., now reside in Florida. Have a channel about 2 years now, didn't tell anyone, still don"t. I hate Facebook and barely use it. I agree with you. The community my channel involves is a niche hobby and very supportive. Thanks for your insight. I should add, I'm 71.
I did the same thing. My friends didn’t care about it, so I ditched them. Went on my own and now i’m 125k deep into it! Keep it up and don’tstop what you’re doing 🙏👍
Our channels are our creative outlets. Embrace them. We may seem like a different person in our content, but it’s just that the real world doesn’t always give us the opportunity to express our ideas in the same way!!! I’m putting out a new music video each month this year playing different characters and I couldn’t be more excited to go all in on the idea and have fun.
You are so right Rob! Great information. My channel is humming and 💯 organic. The algorithm is doing its thing plus I don’t want it on my mind worrying about them picking apart my stuff.
Rob the Maritimer... This topic is confusing to most people. But I have been telling people for years now not to just watch for a couple of seconds so it registers as a view. That is bad because if they only watch for a couple of seconds, yes it might register as a view but it tells TH-cam that the person did not like the video or they would've watched all of it. All bad for the algorithm. We need people to watch the entire video, like the video and maybe even leave a comment even if it's a short comment. All of that interaction is good for the algorithm and tells TH-cam that they liked the video.
That's all good stuff, for sure! The reality is it's a game of averages. Not everyone is going to watch all of a video... but whatever your typical average is, let's say it's 50%, then when you put out another video and the average ends up being higher, say 60%, then that's a good metric for your channel. Good chat... thanks for sharing!
Hi Rob, I am also from Nova Scotia, 58 and fairly new to TH-cam. Great advice on not telling family or friends. I did tell people I knew and it was a huge mistake as I basically was just ridiculed! My husband and two daughters support me 100% and I realized early on, that theirs was the only support I wanted or needed. Thanks again for the great tips! P.S. I watched the entirety of your video! 👍
Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it! That's amazing that you have the support of your family... that's all you need. Now just go make videos for YOU... and let TH-cam find your ideal audience for you :-) Enjoy!!
This is the kind of content I'm thinking about to do here. Going on a walk, because i then otherwise wouldn't, and just share my thoughts about stuff I've seen online. My problem is, I freaking hate my voice! And thats what makes me think why people probably wouldn't really watch my content. Cool video man!
Remember this... we ALL hate our own voices when we hear recordings of them. BUT we are the only ones that think our voices sound different than they really are. Because usually, you hear yourself from inside your own head.... so you sound different to you than to others. But other people... if they hear a recording of you, it sounds EXACTLY like how they think you sound. Maybe that will help? I think "Walk and Talk" videos are a great idea... it shows people different scenery too :-)
Great information thank you for sharing. I started my channel and tried very hard NOT to tell anyone in my family. However the word soon got out. My husband was so proud I of me after years of me talking about starting a channel. Therefore he told EVERYONE 😂
Haha well I guess you can't fault him for being supportive! Maybe tell him kindly that doing that might actually hurt your channel's growth :-) It's a hard thing to wrap ones head around especially if they're just trying to be helpful :-) Best of luck to you!
I have been on this journey for over 2 years. I try to keep my channel private. I just want to be myself and hopefully attract people who share similar interest. Most people will not understand why I make videos. Thanks for sharing.
Dear Rob, loving the content and the no BS commentary. Also loving that your channel is growing. Sooner or later I am going to get on it and do it myself.
I'm starting fresh with a 3rd youtube channel and taking a lot of your advice, I've learned so much here. After years of making videos, I've finally gotten better at editing and getting good equipment. Now to get better at actually Youtubing. Love your channel, thanks for sharing!
You always have the best tips and this is one of them. Folks need to chime in to your channel for quick lessons and takeaways. Thank you for showing up and sharing. Happy New Year! 🦋
Love ya man. Great video. It is nice there in Nova Scotia, eh? I am new to TH-cam. I am here to encourage people to persist in their goals and keep going!! I am grateful for this experience.
You are a very down to earth guy. I like your voice too and your videos have pushed me like others to try my first video with my face showing. Please keep going as this raw style is really fun to watch.
Great piece of advice. For a new 60 plus youtuber, this helps a lot n is making a lot of sense. Just subscribed to ur channel too. Thanks much. God Bless 😊🙏👍
I started this channel about a month or few months ago and uploaded few peaces of content and i am loving it even i dont get views , I am loving the process.
Afternoon Rob! Appreciate coming across this video, and yes, very true!!! Been doing the TH-cam thing for a couple years now and feel like just hitting my stride. Yes, my demographic is definitely NOT friends and family, so glad I wasn't too concerned about letting any of the close family know. Of course, they know about it now, and sometimes check in as a way to see what's going on in my world. Appreciate the simplicity of your videos and of course the accent, as I'm originally from Minnesota and don't get to hear it often. Enjoy the journey. I'm 40 and Retired in Jamaica. 😁
Thank you so much for this heads up!!! I really want to start a TH-cam channel but have no idea how to get started. I’m not tech savvy. I’m trying to learn from TH-camrs such as yourself! I’m grateful for this information. BTW, I absolutely love Nova Scotia! Such a beautiful place with the best popovers and lobster I’ve ever had in my life!😊
Love this. I also recently experienced a reason not to be too public with my videos. Last week I made a video in which I became quite emotional and that same evening two of my family members sent me beautiful messages of support. Felt a little embarrassed! Love their support, though.
I've always felt this way, even though the conventional wisdom a few years ago was to share your videos as much as possible including with friends and family.
Hi Rob, Hope that you are well! I’ve seen videos about this same topic and it resonates with me. I would love to make a video about it too, but wouldn’t want a family member or “friend” to be offended, as I would more than likely be referring to them. 😅Makes me regret sharing anything with anyone that I thought supported me and my journey. I find that people who have found me on here have been, and are my biggest supporters. ❤
I completely understand :) There are ways you can maybe speak in hypotheticals and make clear you aren't speaking about your own family/friends... try making it more general if possible. When I made this video I wasn't really thinking about anyone in particular in my family or friends... just general thoughts. Best of luck with it!! :-)
Was literally just thinking about sending my videos to friends. Thanks for the message. 😂❤ Will continue to ride the wave of trust and faith that my people will find me. 🙏
Focus on continuing to upload videos to your channel and getting better at making videos... stay consistent with your uploading... and yes, your tribe will find you :-)
I appreciate that, thank you :-) The way I look at it, if someone takes the time to write a thoughtful comment then I owe it to them to respond in kind. It's not always possible but I'll always do what I can. Take care and best of luck with your TH-cam journey :-)
@RobtheMaritimer totally agree! It means the world to me that people take time to watch my videos, so I make sure to set time aside to reply to them. And thank you! Same to you 😊
Fellow Maritimer who has a video game channel, I’m in my late 30’s and have a successful day job. Some people don’t understand when they ask about my hobbies or my TH-cam stuff. You are right about the embarrassment that comes from them saying “you have a TH-cam channel”… it actually brings in decent money, I’m having fun, and I’m learning soooo much! About business, analytics and heck, even myself. Thanks for this video and being real, I’m going to sub just for that!
Interesting take. I started my channel a year ago, but only started posting again in January. I've been very hush-hush and haven't told many friends or family. I'll wait until my channel is a success and then I'll share it with them haha.
This is amazing advice and makes so much sense after researching how TH-cam works. Haven’t posted anything yet, but starting my channel in the next couple weeks. Thank you!
Recently started watching your videos, thank you so much for the wise words and encouragement. As someone who’s recently started posting on YT, barely getting any views. Your videos have really helped and motivated me to keep going! Wishing everyone all the best in your YT journey! 🙌
And even if they did watch if you asked them to, that would not help your channel grow... it would most likely hurt the growth. so it's best to just not mention your channel to family members at all :-)
Exactly. That's why Ive made my second channel and didn't tell about my new YT.its nice that no one knows you in your circle of friends.im mean it's nice to start from scratch and people subscribe you because they like what you are doing ❤
Thank you for the video. Some people inevitably like to give unsolicited advice and opinions on the things we share with them. I started my channel this week, and yes, I’ll just keep it to myself. 😊
You're right about that! Someone earlier posted that if you have less than 100 subscribers, everyone will want to give you advice on how to grow.... but if you have say 5,000 or more subs, they'll start asking you for advice :-)
Not to mention, the people who are into the same thing as you within your social media circles...They are normalized to you and therefore, do not reflect on you as an authority within your particular TH-cam field of expertise and don't even realize they shun you on the things you are good at...There are too many others for them to watch out there that aren't so familiar to them that they are bored. Your best supporters are the ones that locate you and value your material. Great video and I fully agree with Rob here. Thanks!
Rob should make videos out in the woods during his walks! It seems he's getting more views, and honestly, it feels like walking alongside him. I've also considered starting a new channel after 20 years on TH-cam with 2.5K subscribers, but I'm sticking with it. ✌
Rob, you’re a natural! Impactful message delivered authentically. It was like you had been in my head hearing my thoughts. Good to know there’s a whole world of other people out there thinking the same way. (Also can’t believe it’s below 0 and you’re outside…it’s a balmy 36c in Australia)
Completely right, it’s okay to have the support of those around you, but don’t let outside influences change your own growth and natural progression, TH-cam is a journey and trying to take short cuts don’t often work out.
OMG, Rob, I'm 48 and started 1 year ago. I subbed to your channel exactly 3 minutes in, you are SO correct! I need to stop. I'm still watching it, I just had to let you know, haha. I can't wait to check out your other content. This old man is still learning here!
I just started a new youtube channel over the last month and haven't told anybody. I tend to be introverted and prefer to share my passion without me getting in my own way. Having fun so far without the social limitations. Great video and thanks for sharing.
This was my strategy when I started my channel a few months ago. I worries that I was making a mistake by not telling people. Thank you for the encouragement Rob!
Interesting advice. I have a small TH-cam Channel that I don't do much with, but I keep telling myself that I want to. Having written several books, I learned long ago that it is critical to figure out who I am writing a book for, either before or very early in the writing process. I have never heard TH-camrs talk about defining or identifying your audience. Book publishing companies make authors write for specific audiences because once a book is written and published, it has to be sold. I have heard people talk about "finding your niche," but I don't hear much about finding your audience. Clearly, your audience and, therefore, your subscribers are people who are interested in starting and/or improving their TH-cam channels. I am a retired wildlife biologist, and my life mission has been to encourage people to get outdoors, connect with nature, and become environmental stewards. But...who is my audience? Homeowners that have landscapes? Community Planners? Farmers? Golf Course Superintendents? Everybody??? There are many hiking, fishing, hunting, photography, and other channels, and just those words help define the audience. I am having a tough time focusing on a specific audience type. OK...my 2-cent rant. Thanks for the video.
Great comments! Defining who your audience is can be confusing, I get that. But you don't have to get it perfectly right. Decide what you want to make videos about, preferably try to help people in some way, and then let youtube find your audience for you. As long as all your videos are you talking about similar topics then TH-cam will have an easier time figuring out who your audience is. At some point you'll start to get comments, which you should answer... and in those comments there will be questions and maybe clues as to what else your viewers want to see from you. SO figuring out your audience is an ongoing thing... just as channels tend to change over time. I did not start this channel thinking I'd be talking to people over 40 who want to start youtube channels... I started this as a channel to help people with video editing... but it changed as I tried new video types and my audience changed. I hope that helps somewhat! Best of luck with it :-)
Makes perfect sense and the complete opposite to what I did. I was forcing my content on people with zero interest in the subject matter. Everyday is a school day. Thank you
thank you so much Rob for these valuable insights I really appreciate your perspective on keeping a TH-cam channel private at the start it makes so much sense and I’m excited to focus on improving my content and finding my audience too. :)
I started my Alien TH-cam channel 18 yrs ago and I got 15k subscribers (main channel) and now started another channel which focus on my music work and I got 53 subscribers. Compared to those BIG channels who got million of views and subscibers, mine is just a peanut. Thank for sharing. 🙏🙏🙏
Good afternoon, have a nice day!You are absolutely right in noting that no one needs to talk about the channel.I made such a mistake and lost many friends. These friends said that I was doing stupid things.🤨😏🤔
I’m glad I’m seeing this. I just started my channel and only sent it to 3 family members, and those are now my 3 subscribers. I wanted to get organic traffic, but I realized so far none of my videos have reached anyone. I was told I should promote it on my other social media platforms, but I won’t. I’m only 2 videos in and they’re not the best so I’ll just try to keep getting better and see what happens!
You're doing it right!! I also sent my channel to 3 people, my two kids and my nephew... and then I made 9 videos in my first month and by the end of that first month I had 6 subscribers... 3 of which were my kids and nephew :) So it starts slow... but then it picks up. You just have to keep making videos and trying to get better with each one :-) All the best to you!!
@ thanks for the advice, it’s something I needed to hear. Also, it’s really impressive that you take the time out to respond to so many comments. Wishing you all the best as well!
We are just starting out and I'm using it more to reconnect with my boy then to gain subs and views, even though he wants to live like a youtuber :) He's only 9 and has sensory needs, he is on a reduced timetable from school and until recently we have had a very rocky relationship, mainly because I have not been able to deal with his challenging behaviours. The crazy thing is, we have started this TH-cam journey and our relationship has become so much stronger, in such a short space of time, so maybe I was the problem. I'm glad to have discovered your channel as we did start to go down the road of sharing with family, and I agree that building an organic audience is the way to go. My main goal is to teach him that education is not a bad thing and if TH-cam helps us with that journey then its a win win for everyone. Going to start binge watching your stuff now :)
You sound like a great Dad. I think that's a fantastic way to spend time together... you can build something together and have a lot of fun doing it together. This is one of the best ideas I've heard of. All the best to you guys... and enjoy!! :-)

This is so true I have been experimenting with a few channels and I agree with you. Haters are everywhere some are the closest to you. Don’t put it on Facebook this has hurt my channel every time. It’s a mistake! ✅ Slim to none ! ❤ Great video Sir! 🦾👏🏼👏🏼😎

The best advice I've heard in years! You are 100% correct. Don't tell anyone about your channel. When people discover it organically, your channel will improve in a natural way. Your friends, family, and people that don't even like you will just spy on your channel and not even make an effort to comment or like your video.

Much better idea I think :-) Good luck!
Don't give up ! Listen your intuition, there is adverb : eagle is flying , and crows were on his back , started to annoy eagle, but eagle didn't do nothing just started to fly higher and higher , and crows fell from eagle's back
@@cheftan888 Thanks for the encouragement! I really appreciate that.
With you
People may feel jealous at some point, even if we get no views, i'm keeping my channel idea to myself, i'm getting no views at all but at least nobody that i know have a clue that i have a channel
It can definitely be frustrating!! Cheers :-)
Oh man...I wish I saw this video before I told some of my friends...it has really harmed my channel. Keep preaching ROB! you are amazing!
Thank you so much and all the best :-)
Today I reached 127k. I'm really grateful for all the knowledge and information you've given me over the past few months. I started with 19k in January.
You literally have zero subscribers on your channel! 💀
White boy gabe has more subscribers than you
Very true. When starting out, family & friends are the low-hanging fruit, but that’s not sustainable for the long haul. Resist that temptation!
I started my YT channel last year but not consistently posting. I will try my best to post consistently and to all small TH-cams out there, keep going! We got this! ✊🏻
You can do it!
We have got this xx ❤❤
With consistency, you'll get there! Best of luck with it :-)
It’s a smart move because you can then make what you want to make without thinking of there judgement you can truly have creative freedom
100% agree :-)
I started my channel last month. And every time I post, there is always an improvement. I have learned so much in 1 month
That's fantastic!
Congratulations 🎉 Keep the videos coming 🙌🏾

Great work there. Just took a look
ME TOOOOOO
My wife and I both recently started our own separate TH-cam channels and were literally just having a conversation about this very topic! Thanks for your upload!
Haha awesome! Good luck with both your channels :-)
6 seconds in and my mindset is it doesn’t matter who you tell nobody cares. The more you get into it the more you learn feels like the more you’re learning another language and culture that nobody else can comprehend so it doesn’t matter what you tell them.
Very much true ,staying in silent is good ❤
Usually I don't talk about my channel.
@ Many thanks!
Wonderful. I’m learning Hawaiian and Navajo.
I’m happy to see you preserving the language.
This is real
Some subscribe and run away
Awesome :) Thanks for sharing!

I started a hiking channel 6 months ago I’m 47 and it’s so much fun 😊I’m slowly getting better at making videos and couldn’t have asked for a better hobby!! Finding the right people to subscribe to your channel takes awhile but I have faith I will get there!
you've got the perfect attitude for it! Best of luck to you :-)
@ aww thank you 😊 I try to be positive in a world full of negative!!
I love the name!😂👍
@ thank you 😊
I'm small creator I haven't really been getting any views on my videos and I just came across your channel and your videos a really good it helped a lot thanks ❤❤❤❤
I hear this a lot and I learned first hand. If you want to be judged by folks that don't see your vision... share a link to family and friends. I suggest only sending them a link when you are actually earning either by commissions or being monetized. Everyone understands that part. Even still, you will get some side eyes lol.
Haha yes you're probably right lol!
Do you have another channel apart from your cooking channel? If so, what is it?
I have had my channel for awhile.
This is the second time time I have started loading again and I will not tell anyone.
Good luck to all of us small channels
Good luck to you too!
I have the exact same experience and view as you
Born In Windsor, N.S., now reside in Florida. Have a channel about 2 years now, didn't tell anyone, still don"t. I hate Facebook and barely use it. I agree with you. The community my channel involves is a niche hobby and very supportive. Thanks for your insight. I should add, I'm 71.
Welcome! And best of luck with your channel :-)
Congrats 😊
Totally agree. Great video. ❤ Been doing a YT channel since 2012 and never tell anyone in my personal life.
Thank you! You're doing great :-)
I did the same thing. My friends didn’t care about it, so I ditched them. Went on my own and now i’m 125k deep into it! Keep it up and don’tstop what you’re doing 🙏👍
Well done!! Thanks for commenting :-)
Thank you! This is something I never thought about. I wish I knew it sooner. 😩
There's no time like the present... just keep moving forward :-)
That's amazing! You've got the right attitude! Good luck and have fun with it :-)
You are so right Rob! Great information. My channel is humming and 💯 organic. The algorithm is doing its thing plus I don’t want it on my mind worrying about them picking apart my stuff.
That's the perfect attitude! Cheers :-)
Right. A good point here that it’s not a good thing to share the link that can affect the algorithm 🌸🌸🌸
Great info!!
Totally agree!! Mad respect, walking outside in -12° and recording a video! 🙌
Haha! I do have to psych myself up a bit before doing it :-)
This is the kind of content I'm thinking about to do here.
I think "Walk and Talk" videos are a great idea... it shows people different scenery too :-)
@@RobtheMaritimer the head and actual voice thing is weird 😂 thanks for your response and have a great day.
Best of luck!
I’m 28 years old and I love your spirit and the way you talk, Mr. Rob
Keep it up
Thank you ❤ This makes sense
Dear Rob, loving the content and the no BS commentary. Also loving that your channel is growing. Sooner or later I am going to get on it and do it myself.
Thank you and best of luck to you!
I love how you're telling us where you are so we can appreciate the beauty even more

I'm starting fresh with a 3rd youtube channel and taking a lot of your advice, I've learned so much here. After years of making videos, I've finally gotten better at editing and getting good equipment. Now to get better at actually Youtubing. Love your channel, thanks for sharing!
Fantastic! Good luck with it and have fun!!
You always have the best tips and this is one of them. Folks need to chime in to your channel for quick lessons and takeaways. Thank you for showing up and sharing. Happy New Year! 🦋
Thank you Lissette! And I see you're killing it over there with 10,000 subs!! Great job! Keep it going!! Happy New Year to you as well :-)
Love ya man. Great video. It is nice there in Nova Scotia, eh? I am new to TH-cam. I am here to encourage people to persist in their goals and keep going!! I am grateful for this experience.
Good luck with your channel! :-)
You are right in saying good thumbnails and good content are the key to attract viewers. Thanks for sharing.❤
Thumbnails + Titles... that's all anyone has to go by when deciding if they want to click and maybe watch the video. So they're super important! :-)
@ Thanks for the emphasis.
You are a very down to earth guy. I like your voice too and your videos have pushed me like others to try my first video with my face showing. Please keep going as this raw style is really fun to watch.
Thank you for the vote of confidence :) I will keep making videos like this :-)
I’m a retiree and beginning to use YT to advance my goal in helping for a cause. Thank you the genuine advice!😘
That's great!
Great piece of advice. For a new 60 plus youtuber, this helps a lot n is making a lot of sense. Just subscribed to ur channel too. Thanks much. God Bless 😊🙏👍
Glad it was helpful!
I started this channel about a month or few months ago and uploaded few peaces of content and i am loving it even i dont get views , I am loving the process.
Keep it up bro 👍.
That's the main thing you have to do... love what you're doing and the entire process! Best of luck with it :-)
@@RobtheMaritimer Thank you.
Jamaica's weather would be a welcome thing right about now!! Cheers :-)
Thank you so much for this heads up!!! I really want to start a TH-cam channel but have no idea how to get started. I’m not tech savvy. I’m trying to learn from TH-camrs such as yourself! I’m grateful for this information. BTW, I absolutely love Nova Scotia! Such a beautiful place with the best popovers and lobster I’ve ever had in my life!😊
I love lobster too and there's no shortage of it here! ;-)
Love this. I also recently experienced a reason not to be too public with my videos. Last week I made a video in which I became quite emotional and that same evening two of my family members sent me beautiful messages of support. Felt a little embarrassed! Love their support, though.
Thanks for sharing that... great point :-)
I've always felt this way, even though the conventional wisdom a few years ago was to share your videos as much as possible including with friends and family.
Hi Rob,
Hope that you are well!
@@RobtheMaritimer
This is helpful, Rob! Thank you so much. 😊
Was literally just thinking about sending my videos to friends. Thanks for the message. 😂❤ Will continue to ride the wave of trust and faith that my people will find me. 🙏
Focus on continuing to upload videos to your channel and getting better at making videos... stay consistent with your uploading... and yes, your tribe will find you :-)
Thank you for your advice, nice to see someone real with a good story 🧡🙏
I appreciate that! :-)
I just wanna say I love how many comments you’ve responded to. It's rare to see a creator engaging with their audience these days 😊

Awesome! Keep enjoying the process and you'll continue to grow :-)
That's amazing... congratulations! You're doing it for all the right reasons :) Best of luck going forward!
Great advice Rob. I also thought about it and I made sure that no one in my family know about my channel when I started this in 2023. ✌
Thanks - this is super helpful and insightful! Im almost 54 and just started a TH-cam channel. Learning lots! (And Nova Scotia looks gorgeous!)
Awesome! Good luck to you and have fun! :-)
@RobtheMaritimer thank you! 😍
Interesting take. I started my channel a year ago, but only started posting again in January. I've been very hush-hush and haven't told many friends or family. I'll wait until my channel is a success and then I'll share it with them haha.
Haha I think that's smart! Your channel should grow faster ;) Best of luck!
This is amazing advice and makes so much sense after researching how TH-cam works. Haven’t posted anything yet, but starting my channel in the next couple weeks. Thank you!
Good luck with it!
Recently started watching your videos, thank you so much for the wise words and encouragement. As someone who’s recently started posting on YT, barely getting any views. Your videos have really helped and motivated me to keep going! Wishing everyone all the best in your YT journey! 🙌
Good luck to you as well!
@ Thank you Rob
This is so correct and honestly many family members are not really supporting or watching they feel like you are constantly asking them to watch
And even if they did watch if you asked them to, that would not help your channel grow... it would most likely hurt the growth. so it's best to just not mention your channel to family members at all :-)
Thank you so much. This is exactly what I have been doing 😢 Bless you ❤
Awesome!! Best of luck :-)
Thanks!
That's a great perspective on this! Thanks for sharing :-)
Rob should make videos out in the woods during his walks! It seems he's getting more views, and honestly, it feels like walking alongside him. I've also considered starting a new channel after 20 years on TH-cam with 2.5K subscribers, but I'm sticking with it. ✌
Not a bad idea! ;-)
Thank you! And 36 C would be nice right about now!! :-)
Completely right, it’s okay to have the support of those around you, but don’t let outside influences change your own growth and natural progression, TH-cam is a journey and trying to take short cuts don’t often work out.
Well said :-)
OMG, Rob, I'm 48 and started 1 year ago. I subbed to your channel exactly 3 minutes in, you are SO correct! I need to stop.
I'm still watching it, I just had to let you know, haha.
I can't wait to check out your other content. This old man is still learning here!
Thank you for watching and best of luck to you!
@@RobtheMaritimer I appreciate it! GenX is taking over TH-cam baby! We invented it!
I just started a new youtube channel over the last month and haven't told anybody. I tend to be introverted and prefer to share my passion without me getting in my own way. Having fun so far without the social limitations. Great video and thanks for sharing.
That is awesome! Keep having fun with it :-)
This makes so much sense! Glad I watched this before starting my channel!
Amazing advice! This is your best video so far! Please keep it up like this! 💖💖💖💖💖💖
Thank you so much!!
This was my strategy when I started my channel a few months ago. I worries that I was making a mistake by not telling people. Thank you for the encouragement Rob!
My pleasure! Best of luck with it!!
Best of luck with it :-)
Excellent, I want to stat my channel soon and glad I found you Rob!
Good luck to you!
I'm so glad I saw this video because I WAS going to send my YT link through FB. I have learnt so much from you, Rob. Thanks
Perfect timing!! ;)
Great advice! We've been at it about 2 years now. Still not where we want to be yet, but enjoying the journey!
Makes perfect sense and the complete opposite to what I did. I was forcing my content on people with zero interest in the subject matter.
Everyday is a school day.
Thank you
TH-cam is one big lesson after another... never stop learning :-)
@@RobtheMaritimerabsolutely, enjoying the process and learning.

I started my Alien TH-cam channel 18 yrs ago and I got 15k subscribers (main channel) and now started another channel which focus on my music work and I got 53 subscribers. Compared to those BIG channels who got million of views and subscibers, mine is just a peanut. Thank for sharing. 🙏🙏🙏
Good luck with your channels :-)
Good afternoon, have a nice day!You are absolutely right in noting that no one needs to talk about the channel.I made such a mistake and lost many friends. These friends said that I was doing stupid things.🤨😏🤔
Sounds like they weren't the kind of friends you want anyways ;) Best of luck to you!
@@RobtheMaritimer Yes,that's true.And it's a shame.Thank you and good luck.
@@ViodiaLaurine I feel it's the least I can do if you're willing to watch my video and then take the time to write comment - I really appreciate it :)
All the best to you guys... and enjoy!! :-)
