I got illustrator about a month ago and have no clue how to use it! I couldn’t even figure out how to fill an object with color lol. You make it look so easy and you’re also a fantastic teacher. I hope you do more of these training sessions!

Sorry if this is dumb, just learning about Glowforge, but would color be relevant at all? Isn’t the GF just cutting paths?

The colors themselves don't matter for the GF interface - just the fact they are different so you can set your art up to cut in the steps you choose - there are times where you might want to cut the outer shape first or second for example. Color differentiation is just to keep the file organized based on how you plan to use it.

Wait, but this is just an into to illustrator. I was hoping for some tips of how to use illustrator with the glowforge (importing, formatting, etc)

Since Illustrator does not interact directly with the Glowforge interface, these basic concepts are the first design things you'll need to learn for designing for the GF. There are no special tips for importing and formatting really since it's so simple- just save as a PDF and use a 12x20 artboard to keep things located in the same area - I cover that in other posts, but it sounds like maybe I should do a video about moving content from one interface to the other, so I'll look into that.

Thank you for this video, it was very helpful. Quick question, does the CMYK color profile for the document and color swatches make any difference when uploading them to Glowforge compared to RGB?

No it does not. That's more relevant if you plan to export the images for print or web. I have used both types of colorspaces for the Glowforge and it doesn't matter.
